spread ourselves thin isnt possible........the are 7billion people on earth if we sent half that out in to the galaxy earth would still be over crowded! earth is simply not in the possition where it can spread itself thin.
Earth can portect itself, it has the outpost which can be powered by mark II NG's plus is pumping out 2 ships(ish) a year so within a decade i think full scale public revalation, colonisation and other planets with cities, the 'new world' analougy is good, i expect if the stargate goe public that nearly every sect, religion/religious order, country, businessman, the poor and every scientists,explorer and anthrapologist will want to go off of earth and have its own little world.....

actually you can, to built ship onany kind of viable large scale you need viable and productive specialist inputs. without refined and co-ordinated imput your production and output quotas with be hugely inefficent. basicly is costing the US more to keep the alpha site as a camp and producing the 303's one by one than it would cost to go in to mass production.
maybe scourge will shed some light on the alpha site future.....

I still think that it may be developing in ways we cannot see. To be honest I always thought it would be cool if that runway openend up and then a lift pushed up a BC-303. That would give a Gould mother ship a bit of a shock. On the other hand there probably not set up for production just yet I mean they only abandoned the last Alpha Site in season 6 so just give them some time to get fully set up.

i think that the beta site ( as it technically called) is only just starting out, it is really just a gate room, a few science lab, living accomodation and the f-302 hanger. at the moment.
im sure that in 5-10 years the alpha site will be an offworld SGC/area51 complex with the sort of thing youve said, like a stationed 303 or a full squadron of 302's. its just not there yet.
