Pretty well all scifi computers are hopelessly backward. In Star Trek for example, in one episode Riker gets beamed away and nobody notices until he's late for work. They ask the computer where he is, and it replies that he's not onboard the Enterprise. What kind of brilliant multi-deck spanning computer can't realize that this is an important thing to inform people about? Don't give me crap about how its not technologically feasible to track everybody on a ship of 1000, we could do it today, given enough resources. Also, in pretty much everything we see datapads in one form or another. Thats pathetic. Why not wire it all into cerebral input/output implants? We know its possible, Togar did it in 'Urgo'. Races like the Ancients and the Asgard are insanely backward in this regard. Thor commands his ship by manually sliding around stones on the board! Its not even on voice commands!
I pledge allegiance to the underworld
One nation under dog
There of which I stand alone
A face in the crowd
Unsung, against the mold
Without a doubt
Singled out
The only way I know
That is a good point, there are many aspects of technology and the way the technology is set up that could easily be altered to better suit our needs. However the reason that it is not is because if everything in the show was perfect they would not have a story.
How could the device zoom in and see someone? That would be near impossible. It would have to see through walls and such.
Perhaps I wasn't being clear enough. What I meant was that on that hand held scanner, you should be able to switch modes so you can see actual video rather than little dots. I was thinking that the scanner would be able to tap into any one of a series of cameras that would allow them to see specific locations.
"You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who makes people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea." - Jack Handy
Jackson: Oh Please! Teal’c’s like one of the deepest people I know. He’s so deep. Come on! Tell em how deep you are. You’ll be lucky if you understand this. Teal’c: My depth is immaterial to this conversation. Jackson: (Excited) Oh!! See? O’Neill: No more beer for you.

Wow I replayed after you yet some how it shows me posting at the same time as you, yet I posted the second post after seeing your post. How odd.

That is strange, it is possible that you posted within the same minute as I did, the time does not show the seconds. But also my post should be before yours. it is probably just a glitch.
