Indie film takes Method Fest audience on a hell ride

              By Stephanie Bertholdo

EYES ON THE PRIZE- Colin Cunningham of Agoura Hills wrote, directed and performed in the intensely disturbing short film "Centigrade," which was featured at this year's Method Fest Film Festival in Calabasas. Cunningham says he hopes the film, which has had good "buzz," will serve as his industry calling card.

In his directorial debut, Colin Cunningham manages to create a living hell in just 15 minutes. Cunningham's short film, "Centigrade," screened last week at the 10th annual Method Fest Independent Film Festival in Calabasas.

"Centigrade" was written, directed and performed by Cunningham, a veteran actor turned director who hails from Agoura Hills.

The nameless character Cunningham portrays in "Centigrade" exudes pure evil with devilish goatee, tattoos, and dirty "wife-beater" T-shirt.

The man lives in an old metal trailer with his young son, and the movie opens with father dearest getting angry that his humble home is a mess. He's drunk and on a rant, and his anger explodes into child abuse.

                Cox at the Caffe

He's one of the best-known character actors around, and if you don't know Ronny Cox's name, you surely know his face from such films as "Deliverance," "Bound for Glory," "RoboCop," "Total Recal" and "Beverly Hills Cop." Or maybe you'll recognize him from his dozens of television appearances on "St. Elsewhere," "Cop Rock," "Stargate SG-1" or "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (where took over command of the Enterprise for a couple of episodes when Picard was captured by the Cardasians).

Cox also happens to be a fine singer, songwriter and storyteller with four albums to his credit. He describes his sound as "an acoustic mix of folk, western, jazzy-blues and just plain cornball stuff," as you can hear for yourself when he leads his trio into Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs for an intimate, homespun evening of songs at 8 p.m. Friday.

In the Stargate SG-1 universe, we saw Sonya Salomaa making guest appearances in the episodes "Ex-Deus Machina" and "Memento Mori" and we're grateful that she took the time off her busy schedule to answer a few career related interview questions.

S-P.de: How was filming on "Flash Gordon" in comparison to filming other scifi shows like "Andromeda" or "Stargate"?

SoS: SCI FI SHOWS ARE ALWAYS FUN BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE A LITTLE KID PLAYING DRESS UP. TO ME THAT'S WHAT THIS BUSINESS IS..PLAY. NOTHING GETS YOUR IMAGINATION GOING LIKE HANGING OUT WITH BLUE ALIENS OR FLOATING MEN FROM MONGO!

You can thank the Center for Disease Control for the "MacGyver bomb" references:

                          http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5228a3.htm

I've read news articles that reference the CDC when they use the term "MacGyver bomb."

                            Conan
(THQ; PS3, Xbox 360; rated mature) Given the success of sword-slashing adventure games based on Greek and Persian mythology, it’s fitting that Robert E. Howard’s Conan has gotten similar treatment. Here, you play as the barbarian from Cimmeria, trying to recover your armour from a demon wizard who has taken it from you. The production values in this game are fantastic, with voice-over narration setting the plot, and terrific voice acting from Ron Perlman as Conan and Claudia Black as the warrior princess A’Kanna. While there is some repetition in the environments and the combat could use refinement, Conan is a great introduction to this rambunctious character. More, please.
