SG1 - Richard Dean Anderson Web Site: Photos from Continuum in the Arctic:

    Continuum in the Arctic
    March 23-29, 2007

At the invitation of the US Navy, a Stargate production team and several members of the cast, including Richard Dean Anderson, Ben Browder, and Amanda Tapping, headed north to shoot several scenes of the upcoming movie, "Stargate: Continuum" at the US Navy's Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station (APLIS). The facility, located on the Arctic ice approximately 200 nautical miles north of Prudoe Bay, Alaska, provided spectacular, if frigid, outdoor environments including the US Navy submarine USS Alexandria (SNN-757). One of the most visually stunning and dramatic scenes to be filmed at the location involved the submarine as it burst through the ice and into the cold Arctic air with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees below zero. Following are some pictures of the cast and crew as they filmed the newest Stargate movie at the top of the world.

    (50 photos in all!)

                    Date: Tuesday December 11, 2007

Notes: In the long-delayed DVD release of the 2003 Sci-Fi movie, Teryl plays Shelley Hanson, wife to Steve Bacic's Frank. She has enormous hair, an enormous accent, and gets eaten by an enormous spacebug - three different kinds of awesome for the price of one.

                          SAN FRANCISCO -

A vital protagonist and a worthy social theme can’t overcome the contrivedness and goo that dominate “The Man in the Chair,” a dramedy about old movies and old age as experienced by film-crew veterans. What might have been a sparkling look at the careers and dreams of gaffers, sound technicians, costume designers and other craftspeople with silver-screen histories is little more than the familiar story in which a disenchanted adult and a kid-in-need bond and enrich each other.

Mimi Kennedy as Cameron’s caring mother and Mitch Pileggi as Cameron’s insensitive stepdad also do nice supporting work.

                                Ultrafit: Mind over mountain

Adventurer Andy Knapp has hiked across the Alaskan tundra and biked round-trip from Minneapolis to Lake Superior. But his biggest challenge has been surviving kidney cancer for the past five years.

By Stephen Regenold, Special to the Star Tribune

                                Last update: December 11, 2007 - 3:41 PM

The year was 1972, and Andy Knapp was hiking alone through tundra in the Brooks Mountain Range of northern Alaska. He was a young man from Roseville, skinny and 24 years old, trekking solo with an 80-pound pack on his back. A single resupply of food waited days ahead in an Eskimo settlement through 100 miles of trailless terrain.

                                **snippage**

In the past five years, while his condition has waxed and waned, while tumors have grown and shrunk, Knapp's forward momentum has pushed him to revisit some of the key expeditions of his young adulthood, beginning in the summer of 2004 with a bike trip around Lake Superior. The 1,523-mile pedal north from Minneapolis, looping through Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, into Ontario, then back west to Minnesota and home again, took place almost 40 years to the day after the same trip on a three-speed bike in 1964.

This past summer, departing on July 7, Knapp set out solo to ride to Alaska. It was the 40th anniversary of a similar trip he started in 1967 with his brother, Steve, and two friends, Howie Graham and Richard Dean Anderson, then an aspiring actor from Roseville who'd grow up to be the never-say-die star of ABC's primetime drama "MacGyver."
