      Sands of Oblivion

      9 pm/ET SCI FI Movie

The history behind the cinematic epic The Ten Commandments gets reinvented in this silly horror flick. The premise is that legendary director Cecil B. DeMille buried the set (along with an Egyptian arifact said to contain the spirit of a vengeful deity) after filming was completed. Morena Baccarin (Stargate SG-1) plays an archaeologist who picks the wrong place to dig.

          Filmed in Vancouver: MacGyver

posted by Jeffery Simpson at 11:56 AM on July 29, 2007

Over the next while I will be looking at a few of the good, not-so-good and great shows that have been filmed in Vancouver over the years. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

          Title: MacGyver

          Stars: Richard Dean Anderson

Canadian Content: MacGyver is a hero that uses engineering knowledge instead of guns, pretty much the sort of action hero you'd expect Canadians to develop, though the show's creators were American (the Mountie hero of Due South was a broad parody of a MacGyver like hero). MacGyver, like the Minnesota born Anderson, is an avid hockey fan and plays the sport in several episodes.

ComicCon: Chris Judge Readies for Rage of Angels

Walking down the street you might not recognize Stargate SG-1 co-star
Chris Judge (Teal'c). Judge has refashioned himself. His new look was
on display at the SCI FI Channel bash last night. Judge's
transformation is striking. Handsomely outfitted in an understated
checked sportcoat and black shirt casually unbuttoned by three or
four, it was obvious that he's slimmed down. For years Judge shaved
his head and bulked up for his role as Teal'c. But now his hair is
              long and gelled.

What can I say. It's a fabulous look for him.

Judge disclosed in our interview (much more to come) that he's
working on shedding even more pounds. The transformation, he said, is
in preparation for his starring role in Rage of Angels, a television
series (in development) he created. The pilot will likely go into
production this fall. Michael Shanks (Stargate's Dr. Daniel Jackson)
              is also attached.

Male On Monday - Michael Shanks

This Monday at The Pink Heart Society our very own Trish Wylie introduces us to another of her potential hero discoveries from her love of Science Fiction shows. And this time it's a certain Mister Michael Shanks...

I've always loved Sci-Fi shows. I like to tell myself I'm not *geeky* about it but that'd kinda be a bit of a fib... 'cos when one show winds up another show I can usually tell you exactly what show it was and I can follow character arcs and series spin-offs with the best of them. I'm just not one of those people who has ever felt the need to dress up and go to a Sci-Fi convention...erm... so far (to the latter part - After all - I'm the gal took some arm twisting for the Harlequin pyjama party dress-up/or down as the case may be at a Romance writer's convention so the chances of me dressing as something sci-fi are slim!)

But then when you can trip across some hero inspiration along the way then technically it's still *cough* research *cough* And after ten full seasons of researching by watching Stargate SG1 I had a potential hero to add to my database in the form of Michael Shanks...

                    Hensons Discuss Skrumps, Farscape

We recently spoke with Jim Henson Co. CEOs Brian and Lisa Henson, and Skrumps creator John Chandler about their new animated property and what’s on the horizon for Farscape, the SCI FI Channel series that ended its run in 2003 but is far from over. Head over to AniMagTV (www.animag.tv) to watch the exclusive interview and behind-the-scenes footage from Comic-Con.

...Also drawing uproarious applause was a surprise appearance by Farscape star Ben Browder, who put his hand up a puppet to help out with a live demo of Puppet Up: Uncensored, a live show the Jim Henson Co. puts on monthly in Hollywood.

(AS I'm on still on dial up, I received an error message that I needed a faster connection to enable smooth playback of video. No kidding. So I can't advise if Ben is on the video or not.)

The most surprising party of the summer

Was a guest at the Entertainment Weekly/ Sci-Fi Channel party -- located on a rooftop near downtown. The moon was full. The stars were out (in more ways that one), and the candles were lit (like a few of the guests). Unlike the previous night's Disney Channel gala, in which the weather report called for a cold shoulder from a celebrity "pal" of mine, this was a fun and stress-less evening.

                      **snippage**

Also caught up with former East Tennessean Ben Browder of "Stargate" and "Farscape" fame. He's looking for work -- but found time to visit his mom and dad in East Tennessee last month.
