Supernatural: The Boys Are Back Tomorrow

    March 11, 2009

... The big guest star of the episode is Christopher Heyerdahl, whom genre fans will have no trouble recognizing as the actor who plays both John Druitt and Bigfoot on Sci Fi Channel’s Sanctuary and Todd the improbable Wraith on Stargate Atlantis before it. Also reprising her role as blinded psychic and Winchester ally Pamela Barnes is two-time former guest star Traci Dinwiddie.

“Death Takes a Holiday” should be a great “We’re back, fans!” episode, so check out a preview below to get all warm and fuzzy in anticipation of its premiere. The sneak peek features Dean and Pamela having an appropriately freaky experience with regards to Sam.

Update from Joseph Mallozzi's March 11 '09 blog update:

I received an email from actor Mike Dopud (aka Stargate: Atlantis's Kiryk) who informs me that he'll guesting on Supernatural tomorrow night in an episode titled "Death Takes a Holiday". All you Supernatural fans will no doubt be tuning in but those of you have yet to check out the show may want to check it (and Mike) out. Also, Mike tells me that he is presently working on a movie with Steven Seagal, On the Run, in which he has a supporting role as Officer Clark. I wonder if he gets to throw down with The Pony Tailed One. Or maybe he gets to jump out of a birthday cake (See, in Seagal's Under Siege, Erika Eleniak plays a stripper who jumps out of a cake while terrorists are taking a U.S. Navy
    Battleship….aah, forget it.).

Fans of “Supernatural” (8 p.m. Thursday, WGN-Ch. 9) will have a couple of weeks to prepare themselves for this sight: irreverent, classic-rock-loving demon hunter Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) wearing a suit and tie, working as a middle manager at a corporation, listening to NPR and drinking lattes.

No mention of Chris, but video clips from episode at article site plus nice cast interview.

MacGyver appeals to our inner heroes
                March 12 2009

For Will Forte, a seven-year veteran performer on "Saturday Night Live,"
transforming into MacGruber is easy: All he has to do is slip on a mullet wig,
look in the mirror and -- bam! -- he's ready to defuse bombs with a rubber band,
a bottle cap and a thumbtack. As a longtime fan of the iconic 1980s
action-adventure series that MacGruber parodies, Forte knew the substance of his
character intimately. He was just 15 when "MacGyver" first aired, and like
                millions of
his pubescent peers, he watched it regularly growing up. Pretending to be the
superhero -- well, a crankier, incompetent, insecure, alcoholic version of
him -- was a natural leap."It's a tribute to our love of the show," Forte said.

                  Review: The Perfect Sleep

by Scott Weinberg Mar 12th 2009

... Tailor-made for open-minded noir buffs who wouldn't mind seeing the beloved genre blended up with a dose of martial arts mayhem and just a touch of supernatural strangeness, Jeremy Alter's The Perfect Sleep takes a little while to warm up to ...

... I could waste this paragraph explaining the densely-layered plot threads, the amusingly pulpy tough-guy banter, or Alter's unquestionable gift for throwing shadows and light together, but The Perfect Sleep is a fine little indie concoction that's best left for the viewer to sift through. Pardoe does a great job of delivering even the pulpiest of dialog, and the supporting cast is particularly excellent: Michael Pare pops up as a violent cop, and adds a lot to the proceedings when he does, plus we're treated to a wonderfully sick performance by Tony Amendola as a character best described as "Dr. Hitman." Amendola steals every scene he's in and left me wanting more of this bizarre lunatic.

.... [ The Perfect Sleep opens on 3/13 in Los Angeles, with other markets to follow in a week or two. It looks like Magnolia plans to release it when DVD time rolls around, so that's good news for everyone. And here's a link to the film's official site. ]

(Please follow the link for the complete article.)

In "Meteor," two massive rocks, tumbling debris older than the solar system itself, collide in space. The course has been altered. The target is Earth. In a remote observatory, Dr. Lehman (Emmy winner Christopher Lloyd, "Back to the Future"), discovers a meteor approximately three times the size of Mount Everest barreling its way towards Earth. His devoted young assistant Imogene O'Neill (Marla Sokoloff, "The Practice") feverishly types in the coordinates only to find the previously identified meteor named Kassandra is headed their way. It's only the beginning of their troubles as showers of smaller meteorites begin to lay waste to major cities around the globe.

The impending disaster brings out the best and the worst sides in people as they cope by either lending a helping hand or taking advantage of the situation. In a small California town, a Police Chief (Golden Globe Nominee Stacy Keach, "Prison Break") struggles to calm a panicky group of citizens. Miles away, his son Jack, a detective (Golden Globe nominee Billy Campbell, "Once and Again"), finds himself caught in the middle of the most difficult arrest of his career with the ill-timed transfer of a very dangerous psychopath named Stark (Michael Rooker, "JFK"). Then there's the skeptical Dr. Chetwyn (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Jason Alexander, "Seinfeld") who may be the only chance Lehman and O'Neill have to get their findings to the proper authorities in time to deflect Kassandra.

Time is running out in "Meteor," in which eye-popping effects, explosive human drama, and hair-raising action combine to create a suspenseful, thrilling and dramatic new miniseries event from RHI Entertainment.

TORONTO, March 12 /CNW/ - When a young, white sports groupie falls in love with a married, black pro basketball star, their child becomes the focus of a ground-breaking and racially-charged Canadian custody battle. CTV announced today the premiere of the CTV Original Movie PLAYING FOR KEEPS, a gripping dramatization of a mother's fight with her son's pro-athlete father for sole custody of their son, premiering Sunday, April 5 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV. Confronting issues of class, fame, and above all, race, the two-hour, Canadian production stars Montreal-native and Daytime Emmy(R) Award-winning actress Jennifer Finnigan (CLOSE TO HOME, CROSSING JORDAN), Doug Savant (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, MELROSE PLACE), and Roger Cross (24, NCIS). PLAYING FOR KEEPS will also be available on demand on the CTV Video Player at CTV.ca following its broadcast premiere.

Following its January 2009 premiere on the Lifetime Movie Network, PLAYING FOR KEEPS was the third highest-rated original movie in Lifetime Movie Network history.

Inspired by a high-profile Canadian legal battle, PLAYING FOR KEEPS is the story of Vancouver sports groupie Nicole Alpern (Finnigan), who falls in love with married, pro basketball player Ty Rivers (Cross) and becomes pregnant with his child. When Ty decides he wants to be a full-time parent to his son, the two begin an emotional custody battle over Noah. At the heart of the custody fight is the notion of whether or not Noah should be raised by the African-American family he resembles or his single, Canadian Caucasian mother. Teaming up with ambitious lawyer Peter Marcheson (Savant), Nicole must plead her precedent-setting case to the ultimate authority - the Supreme Court of Canada.

"PLAYING FOR KEEPS is a compelling dramatization of an emotional and psychological journey inspired by a case which led to a historic decision by the Supreme Court of Canada," said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. "Jennifer Finnigan delivers a poignant portrayal of one woman's perseverance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds."

"I was really taken by the story of a woman who had everything against her. She had money against her, she had fame against her, she had class against her, race and public image against her," said producer Marsha Newbery.

"Here was a young mother with almost no resources who just fought as much as she possibly could to keep her child," added executive producer John Ritchie.

PLAYING FOR KEEPS was filmed on location in Vancouver, British Columbia.
