Carl Binder about his role as scriptwriter at Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis

Carl Binder was born in Windsor, ON; Canada and he was a writer on Stargate SG-1 as well as on Stargate Atlantis. He also executive produced several Stargate Atlantis episodes and creatively advised for Stargate SG-1 episodes. We're grateful that he took some time off his busy schedule to answer a few career related questions for our German website visitors.


A brief excerpt:

S-P.de: What's your favourite Stargate episode and why?

CB: Of the Atlantis episodes I didn't write, I really love McKay and Mrs. Miller, as well as Remnants and Be All My Sins Remember'd. Of the episodes I did write, it's hard to single out one, so I'll pick a favorite from each season that I've been on staff:

Season 2 - Michael, Season 3 - Phantoms, Season 4 - Missing, Season 5 - The Prodigal.

Fans hail at Twilight’s first gleaming

Twilight, the new film based on the popular book series by Stephanie Meyer, is a film that’s made primarily for three groups of people: Fans of the books, teen girls and gay boys. It’s dark, broody, overly emotional, and broody. Yes, I said ‘broody’ twice. Trust me, it’s no accident.

While Twilight is nowhere near the territory of a great film, it certainly isn’t a bad one. I was pleasantly surprised that minor characters weren’t disposed of as vampire food, and Michael Welch (Stargate SG-1 fans will remember him as the younger version of Richard Dean Anderson from one episode) steals every scene he’s in as Mike Newton, the silly jock who has the hots for Kristen.

The schedule was released today for HDFEST's Los Angeles event, which will be staged at Dolby Laboratories in Burbank.

HDFEST Los Angeles will include screenings of high-definition movies, discussions on HD moviemaking and digital cinema, festival parties and the HDFEST 2008 Deffie Award Ceremony. This year's HDFEST Los Angeles will include presentations of seven revolutionary feature length HD films as well as unique High-Definition showcases including the HDFEST High-Definition Animation Showcase and the HDFEST High-Definition Music Video Showcase.

HDFEST 2008 is the 9th year of the festival, which has been presenting exclusively HD festival events since 2000. The opening night screenings of HDFEST Los Angeles will take place December 5th in Dolby Laboratories' Larry Umlang Presentation Theatre II. Crackle.com Unveils New Slate of Original Web Programming

CULVER CITY, Calif., Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Crackle.com, Sony Pictures Entertainment's online video network, today announced its upcoming season of original online web programs that will begin airing on December 1, 2008.

The new 13-week season consists of a mixture of new shows, as well as the return of several sophomore series. Highlights of the new season include "Anytime with Bob Kushell," an online talk show hosted by the Emmy(R)-nominated television writer and producer Bob Kushell, which features guests including Jennifer Esposito, Neil Patrick Harris, John Stamos and Christina Applegate; new seasons of "The Groundlings" and "Owen Benjamin Presents;" and four brand new episodes of "The Jace Hall Show." In addition, Crackle today unveiled that "Married ... with Children" star David Faustino's new comedy series "Star-ving" will premiere on Friday, January 16, 2009.

"Delivering on our promise to debut high-quality original content on a daily basis, Crackle's next programming slate combines new episodes of some of our most popular series with fresh new shows," said Eric Berger, senior vice president, digital networks. Star-ving

(Fridays) "Star-ving," starring David Faustino and Corin Nemec ("Parker Lewis Can't Lose") will premiere on Friday, January 16th. In the series, Faustino plays an exaggerated version of himself -- he's broke, can't find a job and his wife has left him for a rap star. Faustino is reduced to begging from his rich Hollywood pals when he realizes that the only thing remaining in his life is his struggling porn shop, left to him by a late fan. The series reunites Faustino's "Married ... With Children" castmates, including: Ed O'Neil, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, in an episode, and also features guest appearances by Seth Green ("Entourage," "Robot Chicken"), Ed Asner ("The Closer," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"), rap star Coolio, Alan Thicke ("Growing Pains"), comedian Gilbert Gottfried ("The Aristocrats"), and others. Ryan Robbins was born on November 26, 19?? in Victoria (British Columbia/Canada).

He is an actor.

Robbins attended arts oriented schools where he wrote, produced, directed and starred in high-school productions; having his first taste of Shakespeare at the age of twelve.


After high school, he began his professional career as a circus performer. He also travelled to Australia to perform. After coming back to Canada, he went to Asia and in his early twenties, he was producing and directing for a production company in Malaysia. He then went to Vancouver. During that time, he was a struggling artist, believing in his art but also homeless; living in a van during the winter months.
