SG1/SGA - Ona Grauer (Ayiana) - CNW Group: The Bridge:

                At CNW Group (Canada):

(Please follow the link to read the complete press release.)

CTV Orders New Drama Series THE BRIDGE

TORONTO, Nov. 3 /CNW/ - CTV announced today the order of a new one-hour original Canadian drama series, THE BRIDGE. Based on the insights of veteran insider and outspoken former Toronto police union head Craig Bromell, CTV has ordered 11, one-hour episodes, following the production of a two-hour pilot shot in Toronto last summer. THE BRIDGE provides an unflinching look at the struggle street cops face as they not only battle criminals - but also their own bosses - in order to protect society and, ultimately, themselves.

Produced by Barna-Alper Productions, an Entertainment One company,
990 Multi Media Entertainment Company and Jonsworth Productions, in
association with CTV, production of THE BRIDGE is scheduled to begin in 2009. THE BRIDGE becomes the third, new original drama series to be ordered by CTV in the last year, joining last summer's breakout hit FLASHPOINT and THE LISTENER, currently in production.

                **snippage**

Written by five-time Gemini Award winner and six-time nominee Alan Di
Fiore (DA VINCI'S INQUEST, THE LIFE, THE HANDLER), THE BRIDGE peels away the veneer of a big-city Canadian police force to reveal the political machinations underneath. After the rank and file unanimously vote street cop Frank Leo (Aaron Douglas) into office as union head, he begins his quest to put street cops first and clean up the force from the ground up.

But the old boys' network running the police force and the city's
self-serving politicians are not about to sit idly by while a former street cop makes up his own rules. Frank walks a thin blue line as he battles wiretaps and a concerted campaign to bring him down, letting nothing stop him from fulfilling his unwavering vow that when cops are in trouble, the union will be there.

THE BRIDGE stars Aaron Douglas (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, SMALLVILLE [SG1's Maternal Instinct and Redemption Part 2]) as outspoken union head Frank Leo; Paul Popowich (ANGELA'S EYES, I ME WED) as Frank's partner and confidante Tommy Dunn; Gemini-Award nominee Inga Cadranel (RENT-A-GOALIE, MVP) as Jill, the free-spirited cop on the force; Frank Cassini (Vice, INTELLIGENCE [SG1's Sentinel]) as Staff Sergeant Bernie Kantor; Theresa Joy (ALL THE GOOD ONES ARE MARRIED, Sixty Days) as feisty tomboy Police Constable Billy; Ona Grauer (STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS) as beautiful, passionate prosecutor Abby St. James; Michael Murphy (Away from Her, X-Men: The Last Stand) as Chief of Police, and political animal, Ed Wycoff; and two-time Emmy Award winner Stuart Margolin (THE ROCKFORD FILES, TOM STONE) as Frank's father, Vic Leo.

                      SGA/Sanctuary - Ryan Robbins: "Passengers":

A new independent movie was released the week of Oct. 24 '08 in the US - 'Passengers.' Filmed in Vancouver, Canada, there are some familiar faces in the cast including: Ryan Robbins (SGA's Ladon Radim and Sanctuary's Henry Foss), William B. Davis (SG1 Prior Damaris in Babylon and The Fourth Horseman, Part 2), Don Thompson (SG1 Wormhole X-Treme and Stronghold), Andrew Wheeler (Prisoners) and Chelah Horsdal (SG1's Lt. Womack and SGA's Erran in Tracker).

                      From IMDB, the movie synopsis:

After a plane crash, a young therapist, Claire, is assigned by her mentor to counsel the flight's five survivors. When they share their recollections of the incident -- which some say include an explosion that the airline claims never happened -- Claire is intrigued by Eric, the most secretive of the passengers. Just as Claire's professional relationship with Eric -- despite her better judgment -- blossoms into a romance, the survivors begin to disappear mysteriously, one by one. Claire suspects that Eric may hold all the answers and becomes determined to uncover the truth, no matter the consequences.

Movie trailer embedded on my blog (includes a brief glimpse of Ryan Robbins).

                          A brief excerpt:

                          Q. When it comes to your portrayals, where do you draw your experiences from?

                          A. Initially from me, I was born in East Africa, I was born in Tanzania, my mom is Tanzanian. Her perspectives growing up were vastly different from anything that those of us who grew up in the Western World could imagine. I grew up with those stories and influences and having been born there, it was always a very strong part of who our family was. I really used that when I went into the audition, I actually had a picture of my grandparents from my mother's side from Tanzania, and I thought about the closeness they had to the Earth and how separate their lives were from what I knew and I really called upon that.

(Please follow the link to read the complete interview.)

                            STARK OF STARGATE

                            GateWorld talks with Charles Shaughnessy

Though it has been several years since his appearance on Stargate SG-1, Charles Shaughnessy's portrayal as billionaire entreprener Alec Colson is still a role which resonates with many fans.

Colson's character sounded an interesting note in Season Eight's "Covenant." Should the truth, for truth's sake, be known? Even if there was nothing you could do about it, and even if it would only add worry to your existence?

GateWorld discusses this very question in our interview with Shaughnessy. He talks about the experience of shooting on set, his hopes for returning to the franchise, as well as his current endeavors. We also discuss the phenomenon of the TV sitcom, The Nanny, in which he starred.

                            A brief excerpt:

GW: You spent a lot of time with Amanda Tapping, how was she as an actress and a human being?

CS: She's: a) adorable, just adorable, and b) what surprised me was that she's a stand-up comic. Her upbringing, her background is stand-up comedy. Improv comedy. She comes from an improv comedy group and sort of found herself as this iconic science fiction heroine in this terrific show.

But she's hysterically funny and she comes from a Canadian ... like a Groundling, a comedy improv group, she's hysterical. She couldn't have been sweeter and nicer to work with. A terrific actress. The whole thing was just really one of those fortunate experiences you have as an actor. You never know what you're going to get into when you go off to do a show somewhere. Sometimes it's just like you have to get through it and do the job. And sometimes they just turn out to be a delight, and this was one, from every aspect, turned out to be delightful.

                                A LETTER TO DAD
                                3 stars

The domino effect of fathers harming their sons who then grow to be fathers who harm their sons who then grow to harm their sons is a sad reality that is far too common. Such adults who have difficulty expressing love because of the emptiness and bitterness in their own father relationships need supernatural help. This truth is expressed in the SkipStone film “A Letter to Dad.”

Based on a true story, the film walks through the struggles of Dan Donahue (played by three different actors through his aging process: Thom Matthews, Corin Nemec and Adam Ryen) as expressed in a long letter to his dad. The moment of clarity comes when Dan is ready to ask Sue (Megan Gallivan) to be his wife but is suddenly overcome with years of bitterness toward his father. Fearing that he will bring that anger into his own marriage, Dan drives into a literal wilderness, stops his pickup among the weeds and expresses his pain.
