TV Picks: Chills and thrills in outer space
By DOUG NYE
Television Editor
One of television’s most successful science-fiction series, “Stargate SG-1,” returns for its eighth season with a two-hour episode.
The last time we saw Col. Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) and friends, they had found the Lost City in Antarctica, and O’Neill ended up in the frozen state of “bio-stasis.”
Tonight, Carter (Amanda Tapping) is taken prisoner by aliens when she and Teal’c (Christopher Judge) try to contact the Asgard to rescue O’Neill from his frozen chamber.
Those who wish to see how it all begin can find out at a local video store. The first six seasons are available in DVD sets (MGM, $69.96 each); the seventh season is due out in October.
The series was inspired by the 1994 movie “Stargate,” starring Kurt Russell. Next week, the much-anticipated — by Sci-Fi fans, anyway — “Stargate Atlantis” will premiere. 9 p.m., Sci-Fi
