Somehow I don't think they would be into farming that much, considering the bulk of the expedition team are scientists and soldiers, with a bit of medical personnels attached along with them.

When you're going on a trip you might not get back from you do take supplies and equipment to help you find and farm food. No mission, especially not one of this scale would go without means of supporting itself indefinitely, and that means farming.

Yes, they would likley have brought farming equipment but nothing to big or to heavy duty.
