Yes, they are a Canadian thing.

The Leo Awards are local to British Columbia and are an industry award.

I was just looking at my database for Stargate awards.

In 2003, nominated for 14, WON THREE - Best Costume Design - Christina McQuarrie, Lid Hawkins - Stargate SG-1 - Full Circle; Best Make-Up - Jan Newman, Rachael Griffin, Dave Dupuis, Todd Masters - Stargate SG-1 - Metamorphosis; 2003 People's Choice Award - Favourite Dramatic Television Series shot in BC and broadcast in 2002 - Stargate SG-1

In 2004, nominated for 16, WON FOUR - Best Sound Editing - Devan Kraushar, James Wallace, Kirby Jinnah, Kelly Frey, Jason Mauza - Stargate SG-1 - Lost City Part 2; Best Make-Up - Jan Newman, Todd Masters, Lise Kuhr, Rachel Griffin, Dorothee Deichmann, Mike Fields - Stargate SG-1 - Enemy Mine; Best Lead Performance by a Male - Michael Shanks - Stargate SG-1 - Lifeboat; Best Lead Performance by a Female - Amanda Tapping - Stargate SG-1 - Grace

For those who are interested there is quite the list of "Nods" for the Leo awards. Including Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Dan Payne, Steve Basic, SG Continuum, SGA and Sanctuary.

                      http://www.leoawards.com/nominees_2009.html

As you can see by checking out the link that SGA, Continuum and Sanctuary racked up a heafty amount of nods. That is very exciting for all the actors/actress' as well as for the two franchises, SG(SGA/Continuum) and Sanctuary.

Big Kudos to everyone who got nominated. Here's hoping some of our favorites get awards.

For me it's too bad that both Shanks and Payne are pitted against each other in the same catagory (Male Lead in a dramatic Movie - Shanks in Continuum and Payne in Mulligans)
