I've more or less rewritten the main parts of the Introduction and, hopefully, the new version will be a lot easier for people to follow. I've decided to use a FAQ style format, shifted one or two bits around and added new things. You'll have read some of it before when I posted up a suggested draft to get everyone's opinion but please read through these sections again so you can tell me how they stand as part of the whole.

Something else which is now out of date is the game having 6 threads because Hive 95 now has it's own role playing thread and brings the total up to 7. There's also this in the game guides -

Hive 95 and all it's crew members are owned by TechnoWraith. Hive 95 is neither a role playing thread like the Chill-Out Hive nor a location in a role playing thread. When the player, TechnoWraith, participates in the game various crew members from Hive 95 communicate with and interact with characters who live on Boris's Hive or in the Pirate Camp and Hippie Commune. When player, TechoWraith, isn't present in the game, Hive 95 crew members are having adventures elsewhere in the Pegasus galaxy or on Earth. The other game characters learn about these adventures when Hive 95 appears again.

TechnoWraith has also put three Hive 95 characters up for adoption although they aren't on the adoption list yet.. I have no idea how to describe the On Board Hive 95 thread, though, because it's currently a somewhat specialised one where we're practising 'in game' timing role playing.

I'll be posting as much of the proposed new Introduction as I can later on - I can't add Part 1 and Part 2 to this post because I'm sure I'll hit the dreaded character limit if I try it.

I decided to post Introduction Part 1 and Introduction Part 2 separately so people aren't faced with a great wall of text that makes them go Part 1 includes some of the things I put in the proposed draft.
        ------------------------------------------

Introduction Part One - The Game

This game wasn't planned out from the start. A group of barking mad Wraith fans met up in various Wraith thunk threads and our thunking led to a certain amount of role playing. As time went on we created a multi location game world and brought in original characters.

Kenny was turned into a coffee addict for a joke in the thunk threads - he now runs a coffee empire with shops across the Pegasus galaxy and on Earth. We have a hive ship orbiting a planet which hasn't been fully explored yet apart from a tropical island where some of the game characters live. One of the communities is made up of Scottish Wraith living a Celtic lifestyle in a hill fort located in the middle of the island. Ellia runs a Hippie Commune. Some of the SGA based Wraith characters wanted to dress as pirates so they now live in the Pirate Camp - they added a Tavern so they and any visitors could get merry (and noisy) every evening in a 'Pirates Of The Carribbean' setting. An alternate universe version of Terry Pratchett's Discworld turned up on the edge of the Pegasus galaxy - it has a stargate in our game world so characters can go to Ankh-Morpork if they fancy buying a rat on a stick from a Dwarf cook shop. Another hive ship full of original characters turned up every so often in the All Wraith Thunk Thread and Hive 95 has now got its own role playing thread. Hive 95 is the first hive ship in Pegasus to have an onboard roller coaster for thrills and excitement and some of its crew members enjoy an online, multi player role playing game called World Of Wraith. Then there's the mythological beings and creatures such as nymphs and dryads who like being barmaids at the Pirate Tavern, a hydra living in a swamp, a Sith (a Celtic fey who isn't at all like Tinkerbell) and a Cu Sith - a dog the size of a small cow with shaggy green fur.

What is the object of this game?

It's to have fun in a crazy game world which is sort of a cross between Stargate, Monty Python, Terry Pratchett's Discworld and Dallas (but with coffee and healthy, nutritious cream cakes instead of oil). Meanwhile, artists and writers have produced game related artwork and what we call mini fics - these are short stories about the characters and the game world and it's often been the case that something which turned up in a mini fic has become an established part of the game.

        What is a Worshipper?

The game definition has evolved far beyond the original concept of adopting a favourite SGA Wraith and thunking over him/her. In SGA, Wraith Worshippers are humans who serve the Wraith in a variety of ways and this aspect is now very much a part of the game along with the original approach. The Kenny's Hive role playing thread is about the Koffee Nirvana company and there's an elite group of humans working for him who know the 'Big Secret' - the real owner of the company is a Wraith. They include Evan Lorne (the human front man), Aiden Ford, whose window washing company is contracted to keep the Koffee Nirvana shop windows clean and Gloria Oglethorpe, an original character sales representative. All these humans are Worshippers as defined in SGA even though we've never said that they're doing any thunking.

What does the word 'Worshipping' mean in the Character Owners Guide?

When we started out in the thunk threads, 'Worshipping' meant hugging, kissing and anything beyond that. Our adopted Wraith soon started developing personalities and they now vary when it comes to how much personal attention they want because some are more reserved than others. We've retained the word because the same will be true of any character in the game world whether he/she is a Wraith, an Earth human, a Pegasus human or a member of any other species. If you see 'Can be hugged at all times' it means that the character concerned is a friendly, demonstrative person - Kit, a Wraith toddler, loves being hugged so players can role play hugging him whenever they feel like it. Steve, on the other hand, doesn't want to be hugged, let alone kissed, by anyone other than Todd's Pet and Starry Waters while Siric is antisocial so hugging him is a very unwise thing to do. These basic guides doesn't mean that everything is set in stone, of course. Two players role playing their characters can find that their characters develop a relationship over the course of the game and end up wanting to go somewhere private for a Worshipping session. Complicated? No, it's just like real life.

        What are potted plants?

When we started out in the thunk threads there were forests of artificial potted plants everywhere so characters could have a bit of privacy by disappearing behind them. Characters now have luxurious quarters, tents or huts so they don't need those potted plants any more. Disappearing behind the potted plants has since become a fun euphemism for the kind of Worshipping which requires characters to go somewhere private.

What does Wraith Worshippers Anonymous mean?

Worshipping a favourite Wraith can become an addiction. Humans who work for Kenny want to be anonymous where their status as Wraith Worshippers is concerned.

What does suck 'n puke mean?

This revolting phrase was inspired by some SGA Wraith feeding on a human's life force (sucking) and then returning it (puking). Examples of this are Todd and Sheppard (Common Ground), a Wraith and Larrin (Travellers) and the Wraith Commander and Ronon (Broken Ties).

What do Wraith eat in this game world?

Humans, of course, because they're Wraith. The Pegasus galaxy is full of human lunches while the Atlantis Personnel Takeaway on Boris's Hive grows clones of some members of the Atlantis Expedition to order. Eating ordinary food for pleasure is now a very popular activity, though, so the Commander from 'Condemned' (Shawn) and Hive 95's Devon are cordon bleu chefs. Ellia from 'Instinct' also bakes delicious biscuits.

        What is creative vagueness?

You'll find a lot of that in the game. Characters have a way of getting to Earth in the blink of an eye without the Atlantis Expedition knowing. How does it work? Don't ask us because we've never come up with an explanation. Hive ships in Pegasus can pick up TV broadcasts from Earth but we don't know how. Characters can also access the Earth internet from hive ships but we haven't a clue why it's possible to do this.

        What are Mods?

Mods are supernatural beings who sometimes step in to direct the affairs of mortals. They have set certain rules for the universe and these rules must not be broken. The GateWorld forums are PG rated so if a Worshipping session starts getting too adult, so to speak, a Mod will swoop down out of the sky and throw a bucket of cold water over the characters concerned.

If found, is probably lost on the way to Azaroth or the Pegasus Galaxy

Introduction Part 2. Hopefully everything is now straightforward and simple compared to what we have at the moment here.

When we set the game up we wanted players to know that gay characters would be permitted so the original character section was written with this in mind. It's a horribly convoluted way of putting it, though, when all a player might want is a straightforward yes or no. I've now added a section saying that players can have gay characters if they want to because gay people are supposed to exist in the fictional Stargate universe. (Well, we haven't actually seen any yet but a lot of fans in the SGA forum speculated for days about the recurring SGA character who Joe Mallozzi thinks of as being gay. )

                  --------------------------------------
                  Introduction Part Two - Characters

What is a game alter ego?

A game alter ego is a player's main character who represents him/herself in the game. Some players have based theirs on their real life selves while others wanted to get away from real life and be a Wraith or a Wraith/human hybrid. If you've ever longed to be a descended Ancient, a Genii or a Jaffa, here's your chance. How would a Jaffa get into the Pegasus galaxy? See Creative Vagueness. Not all players will have read Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, though, so we've tended to keep TPD-123 as a world which characters visit in mini fics or offstage apart from an occasional Discworld character turning up as a tourist. If you've really got your heart set on being a seamstress from Ankh-Morpork we'll have to find a way of making it clear what a seamstress is for everyone who hasn't read the books. (Remember the Mods, though.)

                  What is an adopted character?

Once you've got used to the game world you can have secondary characters to role play as well as your game alter ego. Some characters who are present in the game world are just extras at the moment - these include a number of SGA based Wraith and the nymphs and dryads. Others, such as SGA based Wraith Queens, aren't in the game world yet. Characters up for adoption have been divided into classes and full details of what each class means will be found in the Up For Adoption List (Game Guides thread).

                  What is an original character?

Many players created their own secondary characters. There are still sixty hive ships in our game world Pegasus galaxy so if you want a Wraith who looks exactly like Steve or Todd apart from a distinguishing tattoo you'll be able to have one. Are there female Wraith who aren't Queens? There are some on Hive 95 so I'm sure you'll find more on those sixty hive ships. We never saw any in SGA unless you count Ellia and the Keeper from 'Rising' but that doesn't mean a thing in a game world where there are nymphs, dryads and a Scottish fey. You could have a human working for Kenny or Ford's window washing company or any character you like as long as you can find a way of fitting him/her/it into the game world.

How do Wraith Queens fit into this game world?

Wraith Queens don't always get on all that well and like to be in command of their own hive ships. If a player wants a Wraith Queen as a game alter ego, an adopted character or an original character, the Queen concerned must have her own hive ship somewhere in the Pegasus galaxy. When such a Queen is active in the 'Boris's Hive or 'The Planet' role playing threads she must regard Ellia as the Primary. If she is active in the 'On Board Hive 95' role playing thread she must regard Queen Amadala as the Primary.

                  Do we allow gay characters?

Of course, because they're supposed to exist in the fictional Stargate universe. Joe Mallozzi's blog has this entry where he said that he's thought of a recurring SGA character as being gay for several years. The same blog entry also reveals that Alicia Vegas was supposed to be gay but the all important scene in 'Search And Rescue' had to be cut for time.

Meanwhile, in Sunday this turned up in a conversation between Sheppard and Ronon -

                  SHEPPARD ....are you datin’ anyone?

DEX: You mean like a woman?

SHEPPARD: Or a man. (He shrugs.)

DEX: No. I’m not ready yet.

We haven't got any gay characters at the time of writing this Introduction but if players want to introduce some into the game they are free to do so.

Thanks. I'm now going through the rules to simplify those a bit. I've also reworded the Borrowing section because we didn't have Essential Characters then.

Makes sense. Someone asked if I could explain what exactly WWA was about. I told her to make a post here if they was intertested, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Just a quick note to let everybody know I will be off watch Star Trek tonight (back to my nerd roots ), at the local I-Max. San Crockett, I fear. Hopefully, tomorrow I will have more time to play.

Crockett: Will you let me know about this Star Trek?
Iz: Uh-huh, honey. Or ask someone who's as old as me.
