[Mayor's house - her office]
Mike looked up as Hunt entered the office. The man seemed very nervous, something which Mike was glad for, for some reason. He'd never liked Hunt much. The snivelling weasel.
He was also glad for the interruption of his brooding even if he wondered why Hunt was there.
He'd half-lied to Sandra before, back when she caught him sitting in the back yard. Yes he was worried. But not about the change in season - something that always had an effect on his mood, and she knew this - but about her. Sandra was now two months pregnant, and the only doctor in town wasn't on duty. Again. It angered Mike often how Winchester was so whimsical at times.
He'd learned about the man's venture into the woods for a week or two, then he'd returned, and they'd been lucky with the Williams case, that the two had been at Jack's when it happened. What would they do if this kind of thing happened again, and there was no one there?
Stop it, Mike, he told himself. You know there's more medics in town. Winchester knows it, too. You made it a point to know about everyone's skill. You *know* this town.
Still, Winchester was their only "official" doctor, albeit related to the base. There were nurses living in the village, as well as three retired medical doctors, even a midwife. Well, he thought to himself wryly, if it came to Dr Cottle or Dr Winchester, who would you prefer to be poking your wife? Definitely not Winchester, what with his boyish good looks and all. Still, Cottle's a good guy, probably the best of the lot we have. We're lucky to even have them.
He sighed at the thought of having to go talk to Cottle, causing Heroux to look at him again, and talk to him quietly, out of Hunt's earshot.
"You alright, Sheriff?"
Mike kept his voice similarly low. "Yes, fine. Hi, by the way, Jose. Sorry I was rude earlier."
"No problem. I wasn't in the best of moods either anyway. You're not the only one with a family." Heroux said, guessing the reason for the Sheriff's brooding mood.
Mike decided to go along with that line of thought. It had a grain of truth anyway. "Yes, typical isn't it. Emergencies always happen when it's the least convenient!"
"You got that right, Sheriff. Let's hope the others get here quick so we can get on with things, whatever it is.".
"Mm-hmm."
Mike got up, stretched, and walked to the window - one of those that you could look out from but couldn't look in to, something for which he was glad. He frowned a little watching Cooper and his aide walking toward the Mayor house. God, not him again. Nor her... Compared to them, Heroux was a good man, and one Mike knew how to play off against, unlike Cooper who had a knack for twisting things upside down whenever it suited his ego.
Hunt hurried out again, and greeted Cooper warmly, it seemed. Guess my hunch about Cooper and Hunt being friends has been right all along. Oh well, what comes around, goes around. He shrugged and returned to his seat, waiting. He hated politics and hoped the meeting would be over, soon.
((hope everything I added, is ok, if not please tell me ))
