    Julia couldn’t help letting out a silent “Whoa!” ‘We really need to work on our decorating skills back home’ as the doors opened and they were led down towards the ‘thrones’, for lack of better words at the moment, “I definitely need to get off world more often…”
    Carrie shot a fast look at her friend and nodded in agreement, ‘I can see what Cal meant about dressing up to meet ‘the high ups’. This was far better than being stuck at the late shift in the infirmary.’ She sent a thought towards her colleagues a few light years away but then focused back at the here and the now…

    As soon as all the formalities were done, the elderly woman dressed in dark blue approached them.
    Carrie pressed her hands together and bowed slightly, “Bí Beannaithe, Gracious Lady. It’s an honour to be here. I’m Dr. Carrie Svensson, Gaia Infirmary and this…” She grinned and made a motion towards Julia, “…is my colleague Nurse Julia Hawkins.”
    Julia mimicked Carrie’s greeting gesture, adding a “Be Beennaithe” as well, or what she hoped would at least sound like that. It was the meaning the counted, right?
    Carrie looked back at Cear, giving her a sincere smile “I’m really looking forward to this. It’s not every day that we get a chance to meet and be able to exchange professional point of views of things.” She was about to add ‘especially not nowadays’, but held it back, not sure on how much the Iberians actually knew about their past.

    Cear tugged on her knee length indigo vest and nodded curtly, "Doctor Svensson, I tell you true. This bargain that our leaders make is not my liking. I dispense health because it is right to do. They trade away land, blood and bone. Not right. That is my thought," her voice lost it's coldly serious tone, "Now we go on to real business. Dispensing health as professionals should."
    She turned to Julia, all the while thinking, Nurse? What was the definition of nurse? She quickly picked a couple of possible meanings. "Bí Beannaithe, Nurse Hawkins. Physician Assistant or Physician Auxillary?"

    (( In our terms - Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. I guess you use similar terms to define different qualifications of nurses? ))

      Liane strode up to the border post and adjusted her weapons belt. Resting her hand on the holster of her pistol, she surveyed the tatty looking group. "Well," she barked at her guards, "Don't just stand there, report."
      The male guard gratefully stepped back, leaving his companion to speak. The teenage woman touched her fingers together and bobbed a quick nod, "Basic Erinn, Group Leader. These people approached and wish to claim refuge." The teen continued relating the story.
      When she was done, Liane pointed a finger at the refugee girl, "You, come here. What's your name? Who's your headwoman?"

      (( If I'm shoving someone out, let me know and I'll delete. BTW - the technical level is about our own. ))

      The older man was about to speak, he was confused by his daughter being addressed rather than him. But he was elected clan chief for his wisdom as well as his fighting prowess, so he stepped back and let the girl continue.
      "My name is Eilidh, we come from the far northern lochs my lady. Our people have lived in isolation for generations, we always thought the older clans gone when Morag left. Our cutoms are perhaps a little strange to you, this I know, a visitor came upon us happenstance some year ago. She told us of the great village and it's people. At first we did not belive her, but she taught some of us your dialect and told us of your ways." Eilidh took a breath and looked to see Liane was following her. Nial opened his mouth for a moment, but a check from his daughter closed it sharply.

      "We travelled for six turns of the moon my lady, our villages ravaged by famine and fierce winter floods, these are all that are left of four clans, once over three thousand, many were lost along the way. My father is our leader, as strange as it seems to you, my mother passed on the journey...but...but this is our custom, the elders always chose our ceannard." Small tears coursed down her cheeks as she lowered her golden head in sorrow.

        Reception Hall

        The greeting that was certainly unexpected made him jump a little as he somewhat blinked at the woman who spoke. Since Lonnog had pretty much ignored him, he had been expecting the same from other females in the group. Surely given the statues of men and his rank, no woman was going o talk to him, let alone approach him. He threw Lie’na a baffled look before gazing back at Teamhair. Still perplexed, he bowed, “Major McKinnon it is.” Straighten up; the Scholar of History caught his attention, few history heads will be in heaven for few months if they arrived here. He could think of someone in particular, but he was still worried about the state she was in.

        Lonnog look at Lie’na and Teamhair before bowing at the latter, “Bi Beannaithe,” she responded. Lie’na was even stranger in looks than the man they assigned her to. She was still a bit stiff that there was man among the group. In her view having a man in the military had to be crime. They could not do everything right. At Teamhair’s question, Lonnog looked at McKinnon icily, “You are welcome to have him for many moments as you wish.” She could not help but feel irked over this stranger. Looks at time was not everything.

        Whatever was the problem for the one who was his companion, Lance was sure it was going to test his patience and understanding to the limit, but for now, he let it go. If these two were his saviours he was grateful for that. Shrilling of the whistle made him twirl on his heels and face the direction of the sound and the man in robe. From the attire he wore, he seemed to someone in high regards.

          Liane noted the tired look on the women's and men's faces. The only female who showed a spark of initiative at this point was the teen in front of her.
          "You may call me Group Leader Liane, Goodmam Eilidh. I'm sorry for all your losses. As of now, you're the spokeswoman for your people."
          She glanced to Nial and shrugged at him, "I don't care you arrive at your decisions, Goodmam but they come from your mouth not his."
          "Basic," she barked at the guard, "Order up some trucks and get these people to barracks 58, 59 and 60. They're empty since the last batch moved out."
          Those barracks had the advantage of being three in a separate gated compound. They were reserved for the people, male and female, that the courts had sentenced to terms of employment in the military auxilary corps. They staffed the farms and factories that supplied the military with all their supplies.
          Returning her attention to Eilidh, Liane continued in a more kindly tone, "It's nothing fancy but there's hot showers, clean beds and we'll send over rations and medics."

            Ryn had found a nice tapestry to look at. She figured it would help with the way she was still feeling, and maybe would prevent another outburst. Noinin had observed her movements, but again said nothing, sat in a corner somewhere. The room was filled with conversation, a soft murmur was constant. She realised someone was addressing her and saw Tyler had joined them. When had that happened?
            Uniforms? What? Glancing towards her CO who stood but a foot away. Had he heard? She wasn't certain, but hoped desperately he would intervene and conclude.

            "Well." She replied curtly. "I'm a Marine, which is ground assault, Captain Tyler is Navy, which means serving on ships, Major McKinnon is Airforce, he's a 302-pilot, and Captain Mykonos is Airforce as well, although she's not a pilot, she's an AF security officer. The airmen with our equipment are also mainly AF security personnel.". Ryn looked back at Tyler for confirmation she had replied well. And not caused yet another diplomatic incident.
            She also hoped McKinnon might carry on with this, since she didn't really want to answer any of their questions, it was best left to him from now on, how else were they going to learn how things should be. The redhead felt like a fish out of water as it was, and would much rather crawl through the dirt carrying a backpack with 25 kilo's of rocks, as had happened on day one of boot camp, way back when.

            [ Residence - reception hall ] {Kym Tyler} {Mistress Seasmain}

            Seasmain looked confused, "You're not all the same military? Do you all serve the same Mistress at least?"
            Kym smiled widely at the question, "Different branches of military for the same government. The 'mistress' who gives us our orders," she paused and lowered her voice, "is a man. General Nikolai Blue. Gentle Lady Callista is his right hand."
            She wasn't positive that she should have dropped that particular bombshell but was sure the Gracious Lady and Esteemed Gracious Lady both already knew.

              Noinin stepped up next to Ryn and gave all Kym a look, full of suspicion, “Are you trying to tell us that you get your orders from a man?" There was no way she could take this seriously.
              She chuckled and shook her head slightly, “I’m sorry but I can’t believe that. Men are not suited to give orders, to be... leaders. I know -,” Noinin held up her hands to stop any protests before she’d finished, “I’ll admit there are a few, very rare ones, that can be trusted to handle an entire house.” She grinned, “But we’re talking houses here, not entire armies. What would that look like when a man’s biggest trouble is to decide whether he should wear kilt or trousers to dinner?”

                Carrie gave the physician a small grin of sympathy, “Let’s leave the politics to the politicians then, and focus on helping our patients. I’m sure there are things we could learn from each other.”
                She didn’t dare o look at Julia when Cear asked her about her profession, mistaking her ror a PA from the sound of it.

                Julia frowned and took a slightly deeper breath, “No. I’m not an assistant to Dr Svensson per se. I’m a registered nurse, specialised in intensive care and surgery. While Carrie is the one who diagnose the patients condition, I’m responsible for the plan of the care and the actual care of the patient as long as he stays with us. Until he’s healed.”

                ‘Crap!’ Carrie almost groaned out loud at the gender slip but continued as if nothing had happened, “So tell me Gracious Lady; what are our next plans? Callista said we could go and visit some of your hospitals? What’s your specialty by the way?” ‘Shut it! You’re rambling!’

                  Having had quite enough, thank you, Ryn fought hard to keep calm. What could she do. There was nothing she could say to them. They didn't understand. Her shoulders screamed their pain. She realised she'd been standing way too tense. She had to relax. Needed to. She blew out a breath, slowly.

                  "It's the way our world is," Ryn then said, carefully. "I guess you don't understand any more than I understand your ways.". There. Now was that diplomatic, or what. Now, for that rest... Normally she would just ignore it. But truth was, she could not stand to be in their vicinity, any longer.

                  She turned and whispered/hissed quickly to Tyler, "Pain killers ran out. I don't have that bottle with me. Maybe this could be an excuse to get the h**l out of here and check on our gear? Please? Where did they stow it all anyway, I'll be d****ed if I'll have to get it pulled back here!"

                    The trucks came and the villagers of Loch Finess were boarded. Some of the older people were taken aback by the sound and movement of the vehicles. One older woman told a driver in no unceratin terms, she'd rather walk than ride in such a noisy beast. Eilidh, convinced her it wasn't so bad and after some time and strange looks from the guards and locals the little convoy moved off. Forty seven in total, rocked along with the vehicles movements. Children hung over the side like puppies taking in the new sights and sounds, the memories of their ordeal being replaced with sqeals of laughter as they jigged around with each bump. All was not well for some though.

                    "Ah dinna nae like it lass. The way that woman spoke and completely ignored me. Ah can nae see us spendin a great deal o' time here."Nial said to his daughter, lines of worry creased his brow.

                    Eilidh looked at him and took his hand. "Father, all will be well. The strangers have taken us in, we'll accept their hostpitality with good grace and see if mayhap they might find something for you in their military. How many Battle Generals with ten campaigns under his kilt, walks into their midst unemployed?" She had brightness in her always optimistic blue eyes.

                    "We'll see Eilidh, we'll see. But ah'm thinking they be not liking men folk bein s' independant as our kind." He smiled weakly.

                      "Good, Physician Auxilary then. You the spine of our profession." In a flash, Cear forgave Julia her supposed bar fight, "You be Physician one day? We talk on the way."
                      She tugged on both women's sleeves, leading them away, "They talk here all day. We leave, they miss us not."
                      The woman led them toward the unobtrusive door that the Iberian companions had entered through.

                      Once in hall, the woman relaxed, "Le do thoil, Instructor in public or with students, Cear when alone. You need anything? I give you working clothes at Infirmary." She pointed to their dresses, "Not good to work in."
                      She pinched up a fold of her own gray-blue jumpsuit. "This not stain, not leak, not grow germs. Easy to discard cover when need to."
                      Cear lifted the side of her vest with her badge on it. "I teach now at Lady Bridgid Infirmary. Biggest teaching Infirmary here. I do my service with babies, children and old. Protect them from illness, teach them to take care, help them with sickness. My daughters do service."
                      Not really changing the subject, the woman asked in turn, "Intensive care I know. Surgery, not so much. Last thing to try before patient dies, usually. Doctor Carrie, your specialty?"

                        [ Residence - reception hall ] {Gracious Lady Naimh} {Cedrig - her Majordomo}

                        Official business concluded, Esteemed Gracious Lady Sioda beckoned Naimh over to her side. A few whispered seconds later and Naimh was escorting her superior out of the back of the hall. Attendants scurried to hold wide a gap in the tapestries to allow the ladies to pass.

                        After a moment, Naimh returned followed by an older man. His upright carriage and firm step contrasted with his snow white hair. Still thick and wavy, it framed his tanned face and brought attention to his brilliant green eyes. The dark gray trousers and tunic he wore were the same cut as the other household attendants in the room but it was obvious that the fabric was much finer with a sheen that glimmered as he moved. On the left breast pocket, his oval badge had Naimh's house crest at the top, a silver circle enclosing a black and red celtic knot triangle. The bottom half of the oval had his personal information, a deep gold background with shimmers of metallic thread, the highest favor a man of the House could receive. Over this was the crossed triad of pen, spoon and crook of an estate manager.
                        At Naimh's nod, Cedrig stepped forward and removed a silver tube from behind his badge. Wetting his lips, he brought it to his mouth and blew a series of notes. Not obnoxiously shrill, they nonetheless cut through the sound of conversation like a knife.
                        Cedrig retuned the whistle to his pocket and looked at everyone expectently. "Honored Guests of the Tau'ri, Noble Ladies, Gracious Lady Naimh wishes to address the room."

                        Naimh stepped forward and smiled at the group, "I know it is late in the day for our Tau'ri guests. Gentle Lady Callista, you and your party may retire until luncheon at noon. We will begin official meetings this afternoon at 2:00 pm."
                        She held out a hand and Cedrig joined her, "Cedrig and his staff are available to assist you with any requirements. He will show you to your suites."
                        The man touched his fingers together and bowed to the guests, "Ladies, my pleasure to serve you."

                          They sneaked out after Cear, both of them happy to be out of focus, away from everybody’s eyes.
                          “Then you can call me Carrie like everybody else does.” She gave the jumpsuit a closer look, “Yeah, I see what you mean. Definitely different from our scrubs… It’s like a short sleeved tunic and pants, made of a natural fibre that’s doesn’t build up static’s and is sort of breathable... Very comfortable when spending long hours in the OR…”
                          Carrie frowned for a moment and searched for another word for a second before continuing, “The surgical suite. To some point I can agree with you about surgery. A procedure is always a risk I won’t argue with that, but the better condition the patient is when getting in to surgery, the easier the job will be and the better outcome for the patient. So I'd like to see the patients before they get too ill…” She gave Cear a sincere smile, “Yes, I am a surgeon. Trauma surgeon to be more specific, with a special interest in orthopedics.”

                            Teamhair opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off by the shrill whistle of Naimh's Majordomo. She looked to the pair, as did her Jaffa companion. Once Naimh was done, Teamhair turned back the the Major, lowering her voice once more so Lonnóg would not eavesdrop, intentionally or otherwise.

                            "A little tip for you major. If you want to gain respect here act like you have the power you hold, don't let anyone treat you differently from the others. You wouldn't want to be taken for Gracious Lady Mykonos' personal escort, or be taken by one of these ladies as theirs."
                            She was sure he would have picked up the appreciative glances in his direction.

                            'Maybe if he'd come a decade or so ago...' She thought wistfully, smiling to herself in what she hoped wasn't seductive. She had no intention of seducing him now, for one it would be stupid to warn him and the try. The poor man was a little shell shocked anyways.

                            "Well, I shouldn't keep you and your companion from retiring to you individual quarters." She said, stepping aside and towards Lie'na. "A pleasure to speak with you Major McKinnon, I look forward to our next meeting."

                            Lie'na, meanwhile, had turned back to Lonnóg, but hadn't yet tried speaking to the woman. Teamhair was at least personable, whereas Lonnóg gave the impression she dislike everyone in the group, purely because a man was with them. Lie'na certainly didn't envy the Major's position here.

                              [ Residence - reception hall ] {Gracious Lady Naimh} {Cedrig - her Majordomo}
                              { Cal Mykonos } ( Gentle Lady Orlaith }

                              Callista sighed with relief at Naimh's announcement. It would give her time to compose a response to Sioda's speach, make sure that everyone was settled, and give Sgt. Chikozu an attitude adjustment.
                              Naimh came over and rested her hand on Cal's arm, "Cedrig will take care of all your needs."
                              The man smiled warmly at Cal. He genuinely liked the Tau'ri women he'd met so far and was curious about the man that accompanied them this time. "Of course, Milady. Daffyd and Ian are perfectly capable of handling the normal household duties."
                              "Some of my ladies," Cal's voice trailed off as she looked around the room. "Well, they seem to have left with your Physician already. What I meant to say was that some of my ladies might request more proper garb if they're going out in public."
                              Naimh patted her majordomo on the shoulder, "Then I'll leave you in Cedrig's very capable hands, Callista. If I know Physician Instructor Gracious Lady Cear, she'll see that your people are cared for and returned to us in time for supper this evening." With that, the older woman hurried off. She knew that Sioda was waiting in her office to discuss the ramifications of having Major McKinnon at the deliberations.
                              While they were speaking, another young boy in livery approached Cedrig and said quietly in Iberian, "Caisleán, everything is ready."
                              Orlaith touched her fingers together and nodded, "Gentle Lady Callista, I'll see you at luncheon. If your other ladies wish, I'll set up some excursions for them."
                              "That would be very appreciated, Milady. I'll let them know to expect a schedule."
                              Orlaith nodded again and left the room to make plans. She wanted to expose the Tau'ri to the best and worst that her culture had to offer.
                              Cal held out her arm to Cedrig and let him escort her from the room as young men approached the others to escort them.

                                [ Residence - reception hall ] {Kym Tyler} {Mistress Seasmain}

                                A teen boy approached the group and said quietly, "Miladies. I show to rooms?"
                                Kym smiled at him, "Thank you, yes. My friend needs to rest for a time."

                                (( Out of time. Over to you Ryn. Shall we have adjoining rooms? ))
