    {Col. Caldwell}

Stephen was about to scramble his Marines when Sam told him that the Ha'tak was surrendering. "Got it, Sam," said Stephen.

Until he heard that they wouldn't go out again. "Does that mean that we won't go out and llok for the missing ones?!" Italian went angry again "Because, with all due respect, sir, I can't stand the thought of forsake my comrades."
Then the familiar voice of reason tolked again to his mind "He's giving you a nice opportunity, if you end this discussion here, you know what I mean.... Besides, Goose's right, we will surely be all destroyed if we go out right now... Take this chance Tommy...."
The imagine of a beautiful brown haired latino woman made him listen to reason again.
"I'm sorry, sir.... Of course you know what is better to do.
Well, if Spook is coming back to the Hammond, I'd like to fly with her, sir: we've already worked together as adversary instructors, flying together won't be a problem.... Otherwise, anything would be good, sir."

"Don't worry about our missing ones, of course we'll return them back here," Connor assured Raimondi, at the same time reassuring himself. There had to be survivors down on the planet, there just had to, he couldn't accept a different scenario. He ignored all the noise around them, knowing that Carter had the situation well in hand as had Marks. They'd call on him if they needed to, as well.

"Spook, eh? As if one trouble maker isn't enough for you. Yeah, okay. I'll see what I can do there." Connor said, a little bit of humour dancing in his eyes at the mention of Ange. He got serious again whilst thinking out the next course of action.

"Okay, Italian. Here's what I want you to do for now. Tell everyone of our wing to report to the pilots' briefing room two hours from now. Should give them time to recuperate however they need to. Ask Major Thracen to report to me immediately. I'll probably be here or in my office if anyone else wants to talk to me. They can if they want to, but there will be a debrief anyway. Got all that?" Connor asked wanting to know if he could count on Italian. Time off for himself would just have to wait, there were a million things he still needed to do. Connor resigned himself to another 48 hours without sleep or food, it was just the way of things sometimes.

She turned and did a quick visual scan of the bay area from a distance to see if anyone else was down or acting strangely. Turning back she addressed Garner..."Now if you'll excuse me Frank... I must get back up there...." She stated with a feeling of deep dread oozing from her voice.
((much thanks to Mel for siggy))

"Yes ma'am," Frank replied. He noticed the dread in her voice, and offered a weak smile, trying to help her as well. "Everything all right up there ma'am? I.... can't help you. But, I can listen. If you want." He said awkwardly, shrugging a little. Wanting to do *something* but not really sure what. Doctor stuff wasn't his forte but even doctors needed friends sometimes. He waited to head off to the mess to see what she'd say.

Emma thought for a moment at what Frank was offering thinking that maybe his helping in med bay might be good therapy for him to get his mind off his troubles. She stammered a bit not really knowing how to say it but then continued,"Um...well we are rather short handed in med bay right now and I've actually been filling in on the medical end of things..but if you could spare some time once you are rested up then I'd love to have the help there." She smiled warmly at the handsome fellow gazing into his steely blue eyes and finding herself feeling a bit weak and all a flutter. She hadn't felt that emotion since she said goodbye to Kevin a few days before he left on mission. She dropped her head and thought about him and what he must be doing and wanting so much to know about his status. She looked toward Frank anxiously, "By the way....have you heard anything about the SG ground teams and how they are doing?" She inquired hoping maybe he had a sit rep.

A little embarrassed at his mistake (he'd thought she was in distress personally), Frank scratched the top of his head, stalling as he thought of a reply.

"Uh...sorry, doc. I'm....no good with medical stuff." He paused, a little lost for words.
"I just meant... uh.... I guess I... got it all wrong. You seemed.... worried." He stood there a little confused.

Her last question saved the day a little, even though he had to answer it negative. He was relieved since it changed the subject.

"Uh, no, no. No, I don't know. I'm but a small fish in the pond, doc. Sorry." He figured they'd learn at the debrief. If there was going to be one. Connor was up to his ears in stuff right now probably, Frank figured it was best not to go bother him. And speaking of 'stuff', Frank could definitely hear the Hammie's rail guns. They were still fighting, and at times, the ship simply reverberated with the battle noise. There was nothing he could do to help out though, nor did he really want to. He'd just done his bit after all, his brain was still processing it and the bangs were giving him a headache. He winced at those times when they were really loud.

"Oh!" Emma raised her brow and smiled realizing he was offering to keep her company and be her friend...she felt the familiar rush of blush fill her cheeks as she knew they had to be bright red at the moment. "Er...um....no....no.... I'm fine......but then again... I could always use a good friend to talk to when it gets really lonely and I feel I'm going out of my mind......" She paused and half giggled at the thought...."which really wouldn't be a good thing.....ya know .....if the head doc.....goes crazy?" She shrugged and grinned at him as they connected on a very human level for a moment. She felt a certain affinity for the bright and sweet not to mention handsome man and would feel honored by his company in med bay....she only hoped she didn't screw it up by her obvious blunder.

She looked down at the floor shuffling her feet nervously at his lack of news regarding the SG teams."Uh...Oh...I see.....well....if you hear anything...please let me know will ya? I really do hope we get some sort of word in a debriefing soon." her ..words were indeed anxious and begging answers as her eyes peered deep into his hoping for some reassurance.

Karina had finished with her post flight report and was heading out of the hanger just past her wingmen who were also bedding down their birds. She gave Hammer a cursory nod but shot a look of disstain over at Runner whilst she walked by. He seemingly ignored her turning away from her passing frame and failed to acknowledge her.

Karina was never one to let things go...but she would never back him into a corner either....she knew all to well what that's like. She heaved out a snarky response just to feel out where they stood, "Havin' trouble with that report Jer? Hey....maybe Bonnie can help you?" she swallowed hard and winced in anticipation of his response when suddenly the Hammond shook violently.

He was turning around to address her when he lurched forward in her direction...almost as if something was pushing him toward her.

She stumbled grappling for a tool cart which slid with her weight and the violence sent them careening toward one another landing in a heap on the floor draped on one another.

"What the frak??!!" Jeremy wailed out excitedly as he found himself face down on top of her.

Karina annoyed but with a smirk delivered wryly, "Well that'll teach you trying to ignore me!"

"Oh give me a break....how can anyone ignore you.....besides I was getting ready to come talk to you." He explained not yet attempting to move from her.

She struggled to free herself from his heaviness as she sort of slapped at him to get him to move "oh....yeah right......you were too busy makin the moves on hot lips over there" she motioned in Bonnie's general direction as she kicked and squirmed to get free.

Jeremy resisted her efforts in order to keep her there this gave him a slight thrill having some control over her...even if it was just for a few moments and he knew it was fleeting. But still something moved in him that caused a wave of heat to pass through him momentarily fluttering in his stomach and causing his legs to go weak. "Karina Starbreaker Thracen....if I didn't know better I would say you were jealous?!" He snickered and stuck his face in close to hers and he could feel her hot breath as she puffed out in frustration and he knew he had her....but she would likely never admit it. He felt his heart leap and wanted to kiss her but he resisted....as he has always done. 'No....can't muck up the great thing between us' he thought as he loosened his grasp a bit allowing her to wiggle free.

Patting back at him with her open palms she kicked herself free as she scrambled to her feet and held onto a nearby ladder... "Oh dream on Cordova..... I don't care what you do.... just don't let it frak up your flying....the day you let a woman frak you up in the cock pit is the day I'll send you packin'" She threatened as she turned to leave. "Now get your head outta your ass and let's get ready they may want us to get back out there." She immediately thought of Connor and wondered where he was...she really wanted to see him but felt dread about it at the same time.

Bonnie could nothing else but laugh, she loved her crew but she also took great pleasure in their most embarrassing moments. "Why Major Thracen, I do believe you yourself might have a thing for little old Hotlips here!" She burst out laughing so much she almost peed herself.

Ishta's ship and two escorts broke out off hyperspace several kilometres away from Hammond and Daedalus. "Forgive my delay. We were observing the battle from afar and saw the Lucian Mothership escape into hyper-space, we were able to pursue it a distance and have it homeworld location. Permission to board one of your ships?"

"Be advised Stephen, we'll need three squads of those Marines as soon as SG1 has the Asgard jammer down. And when the moment arises I'll need you over here please."

"Copy that Ishta, please come to the Hammond as soon as you can. You can lock onto our ring platform on level one thank you."

"I'll be there in five minutes Colonel Carter."

"Yes sir, you can count on me." Tommaso answered Mason, reassured by the fact he realized that everyone was thinking of finding her friends lost out there, they just need time to reorganize themself.
He nodded at his commander and headed back to the hangar.

Karina smirked back at Italian with a sarcastic retort, "oh yeah....well isn't that a surprise?" She muffled a laugh as she pushed down the dread crowding up in her throat...full well knowing this meeting would be difficult. She winked at the Captain and feigned a smartass salute. As she left the area she whistled over at Runner and Hammer and gave them a half hearted thumbs up as their code for ...it's gonna be alright no matter what.

She made her way down the corridor and through the lift winding her way to Connor's office. Upon her arrival she rapped on the door with her knuckle. While awaiting his response she drew in a deep breath and swallowed down what little bit of pride she felt she had left and looked up wondering what was taking so long. She seethed under her breath, 'figures he'd call me to his office and not be here!' she sighed heavily and proceeded to let herself in. 'Ah well he can't fault me for being late...I'll just make myself comfy' she thought as she walked into the heavily decorated room. She looked around noticing all the model ships he had on display...obviously crafted by him...she always knew he had a thing for this...but 'WOW he had talent' she whispered under her breath as she traced her finger along the case peering in and admiring his work. Her heart began to swell with a warm sensation as the familiar butterflies danced in her gut leaving her feeling weak and vulnerable. 'NO!' She decided willfully she would not let him get to her like this. She then focused her attention on the many plaques of awards and service commendations...leaving her feeling she would only be so honored to have such things in an office like this. She was lucky to still be serving with as many black marks she'd racked up over the years.

She thought about sitting down and on her way to the overstuffed chair she spied some pictures hanging with various aircraft..mainly helo's that he had flown. She got close to examine them....trying to pick him out of the crowd in each one...noting some of the familiar faces of fellow crewmen they had flown with over the years. But there were some older photographs that had faces she didn't recognize and she giggled at how young he looked in many of them...realizing just how much these stressful missions can age you.

As the time passed she got nervous and decided she would try to relax so she plopped down into THE chair....HIS chair behind the desk, leaned back and propped her feet up on top of some files. She thought about rummaging through the drawers but thought better of it. For now she'd just lean back and wait for him to show.

Knowing Karina was probably thrashing about his office right about now, Connor walked over to Marks who looked up at him questioningly. "Uh, if you need me, Major, I'll be in my office," Connor told him and then walked off the bridge.

He hurried toward his office, not really looking forward to this. Yet another confrontation with her. Connor sighed reaching his door, of course she wasn't going to wait outside. He opened the door and found her sitting in his chair looking around. HIS chair. Feet on the desk, too.

He sighed and half sat on the desk, brushing against her feet. "You know, Karina, reporting to my office means you wait outside till I get there if I'm not in. Seems like you've even forgotten basic courtesy, what's going on? Or should I just put it all down to mission stress?" Whilst awaiting her reply, he quickly did a visual scan of his things, and was glad to see nothing broken. She'd touched things though had left the half-built Apache helicopter on a side table alone. It was huge, probably the largest model he'd ever started. Connor wasn't sure he would be able to finish it, there were a few key parts missing he couldn't locate anywhere, and so he'd been just about ready to shelve that project and start another one. It didn't take a second before his glance was redirected towards her again.

Or should I just put it all down to mission stress?" "Basic courtesy? Come again? Since when did I ever show basic courtesy?" she huffed out with no remorse.... "besides I always thought you liked it when I touched your stuff." she grinned while finding his eyes amongst his now flushed face. She leaned up and pulled her feet off his desk and appeared to straighten just a little. Maybe it was a knee jerk reaction to being in front of a superior officer...maybe it was just a reaction to being in his presence she wasn't sure but she felt just a little less relaxed now that she could feel his hot breath and smell him next to her. As she sat up and got closer to his face she whispered out to him..."now what was it you wanted to talk to me about....... SIR?" She punctuated the ending emphatically just to try to empress him with her basic courtesy.

Not impressed in the least, Connor's eyes bore deep into hers.
"Get out of my chair...major." He said curtly, the emotion in his eyes showing the usual mix of annoyance and admiration, though right now it was more annoyance. He had stood up and was now leaning on the desk, their noses all but touched. Connor pulled away before he did something inexcusable like hitting her, or worse. Why and how did she always manage to get under his skin like that. He had his back to her now and she could see his clenched fists as he tried to get himself under control.

"You tell me. I think you're smart enough to figure it all out yourself." He turned around, his face had a calm look: no longer annoyed, but a strange kind of resolved look.

"Our wing's all but gone, Karina. You tell me what I'm supposed to do now, because I sure as frak don't know." He was very close to resigning, he had been opposed to the mission from the start but nobody had listened to him and now he had to deal with this, the result. And Connor wasn't sure he could, not anymore. He'd had a nice career, and if this was The End, then so be it. (He'd been daydreaming of late, about starting up a nice little company on a tropical island somewhere, ferrying tourists around in helicopters. Connor figured it might make a nice bit of money.)

"I'm done with this stuff between us. I'm *done*." He emphasized. He'd moved closer while he spoke and a hand was on her shoulder pulling her close. And then their lips brushed together, completely out of their own it seemed like, and Connor really enjoyed it.
