Game of Thrones being so close to elimination when the season 2 premiere rocked so hard confuses me.

I don't think hardly anyone here watches it. I've only seen a couple of eps but it's definitely on my "must see" list.

Shame that Breaking Bad got the boot. Had never watched it so after it got tossed I watched the first three seasons on Netflix. Looking forward to S5 and catching up on S4. Great show if you like those types.

Yeah, I think that's the case for a lot of the HBO/FX/AMC/Showtime shows. I sort of understand why people don't watch them, but at the same time it completely baffles me. Think it's because for most it seems to be more an issue of content rather than quality, which is a view I can't quite get my head around.

Season 4 is amazing. Finale - mindblowing. Best show on TV at the moment (followed by Game of Thrones and Justified).

It could be cost keeping people from watching those shows on HBO and Showtime. They are not usually part of a cable package, but are extra.

Also a factor for some, that's true.

Am I right in thinking that everyone gets AMC? Or at least most people? Hence Walking Dead being a ridiculous ratings juggernaut. Is that the case for FX too?

Having seen you were watching Breaking Bad, I am hoping to check it out soon. We pretty much watch the same things.

Actually, most people probably do, but I don't... I have only basic. But I do get most of what is shown on those expanded basic channels on Netflix. That's how I got to watch Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, and Prison Break. Now I can add Breaking Bad to that.

Imo, HBO and Showtime are not worth the extra 11 or 12 each on top of the already inflated $75 a month for DirecTv I have to pay. Granted I'd love to watch Game of Thrones and Dexter, but I'm not paying that just for them as I think their movie selection sucks....or they always do when they have free previews.

AMC is usually in cable and sat packages that are a step up from basic service so yeah most people probably get it. (Same goes for FX which has Justified and Sons of Anarchy.) I do. Had just never actually sat down and watched Breaking Bad until I saw that Netflix had the first 3 seasons on instant streaming. Netflix's streaming movie selection may suck, but they have a pretty nice line up of tv shows. I've got more on my queue than I have time to watch.

Back in my Dallas days, I realized we weren't watching any of the premium channels we had on cable, and we finally dropped them. This was after SG1 moved over to SciFi from Showtime, and before Dexter began. I wished I had it back when they put Dexter on network during the writer's strike, but when Netflix went streaming, I got to see it anyway. Unfortunately the contract for streaming ended, so now it's disc only. I'm still waiting for the last season to come back to streaming.

In the end, we dropped everything except basic/network, because Netflix had such a great selection of tv shows, most of which I'd never seen before; a lot of them from the UK. The last two years nothing new has come on network that I'm at all interested in, so we could drop that also and just wait around for the shows to either come on Netflix, or go direct to the station's website and watch. I did that with "The Killing" just this week. Finished watching the first season on Netflix the day before the 2nd season began airing (maybe on AMC?), and went over to AMC.com and watched the first ep.
