(Oz was my guilty pleasure - never seemed like a show I would like but for the most part I found it really interesting - except for the stupid last season which like so many shows should never have been made. It was so weird to watch Chris Meloni at the same time play a good guy on Law & Order SVU and a really bad guy on Oz )
(And on the really really shallow side - a chance to see hot naked guys on tv )

Have never subscribed to any of the pay channels like HBO so have never seen any of those shows.
(Though those Direct TV subscribers in TX affected by Hurricane Ike are getting three free months of STARZ. but they don't have original programing like Showtime, etc. Strike that they have some new show...Crash...with Dennis Hopper.)
I did finally get around to watching the Sopranos on A&E. I thought it was ok but nothing as great as it was always made out to be.
Way back when we first got cable (because living in NYC in that borough that didn't have cable because of a big scandal) after we moved upstate, we got just about every premium movie channel... In the end, we kept only Showtime where Stargate SG1 was airing, and later Dead Like Me, and Huff and now Dexter. Now we don't have any premium channels. So, I never saw Oz, and if this is why we're NOT talking about those stations, just ignore this...
I've always lived where you could get the premium channels but we have never subscribed to them cuz they cost the extra money.
Though thought about the STARZ package for Direct TV because it's like eleven channels for around $11 extra dollars a month, but satellite already costs about $64 a month and the only reason we have sat is because the cable system in this area sucks. You were paying for nothing and the reception on several channels including some local ones was terrible...interference bleeding in from other channels...and it was CABLE. wtf? So switched to satellite.
As far as programing goes on those channels...well none of the current shows interest me other than maybe Dexter. I watched SG-1 in syndication all those years so I was only a year behind , but didn't matter to me because I didn't get into online fandom until it made the switch to Skiffy which was a channel we got/get.

For basic (VERY BASIC with just the extended stations like SciFi) cable we are paying $52.65 a month, not including the boxes yet, which we'll have to get by next Feb to even be able to watch. I'd heard, with sat, you had to pay extra for plain network. Is that still true?
Right now, with everything coming out on DVD almost right away, I can rent from netflix and if I like it, then buy the series.

Thundy... there is nothing at all shallow about a chance to see hot naked guys on tv!!!
Never saw OZ, and I guess, since you said its over, all I can do is rent it if it's on DVD.
