Yeah, well, he's just told them they cannot deal with the thing. He's told them to run and just look at it, it's huge and fire-like and OWMYGAWWD. I think running to help would mean more dead. Keep in mind they have all given their pledge to get Frodo and the ring to Mordor, not to make sure nobody dies. Gandalf is like the "in charge" dude and from the moment he makes the Balok fall and he says "run you fools" can't be more than a second or two.

Eh, seemed longer to me.

but Frodo did attempt to go and was held back ... it was an obvious "you have to" move on for the greater good (the whole story is a book of the greater good ... hard to accept sometimes ... especially when you are fond of a character ... must admire a writer who is brave enough to make the move) .... and who could really overcome this thing .... and then his sacrifice would be for naught .... and deep down you had to think he was going to pull out some magical force and escape ... which technically .... the whole scene was paralyzing for me, it was one of the strongest in the whole series to me ... extremely poignant.

Yeah, okay forgot about Frodo.

I get that about his death, but like I said, I had a weird reason for voting for him this early.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE the LOTR movies. They rival the original Star Wars trilogy for me, but the final moments before his death just bug me....
