What is YOUR criteria for your greatest ships?

Looks? Firepower? Greatest contribution to Sci Fi story telling?

For me, Science fiction is a fantasy world where I can escape from reality and imagine myself in places I will never go. So, for me, the greatest ship is the one I would want to serve on or best of all, be the captain of. And because my management strengths are squad level, I tend to go to the smaller ships. Once I'm there, I want firepower, speed and evasiveness. Once I've got all those, looks come into play...

I've always been fascinated by fighters of all kind with my all time favourite fighter (for now) being a Wraith Dart. However for what I consider to be greatest ship I want something fast, powerful, manoeuvrable, a place where a story can progress or be progressed by it's presence, full of you beaut gadgets and if it looks good then all the better.

I'm with Silence, I think the White Star fits the bill

In my opinion the best ships are the ones that feel real and lived in/used and/or look good. Which is why my favourites are Serenity, the Battlestar Galactica, the Bajoran Solar-Sail ship, Deep Space Nine, and the Defiant. And some of those have some pretty hefty firepower.

Hmm... Something, like Trek_Girl, that feels real to me. (Omega class) Failing that, something that's just eye catchingly simple. (Defiant) Then there's the ones that are so simple, they're genius. (Borg cube, Star Destroyer)

Saying that, though, i honestly couldn't say what makes me like a ship. Something that, when it comes on the screen, you're in constant amazement. If it's mysterious and far beyond what we could hope to understand is always a plus point. (vorlon cruiser, shadow vessels, asgard ships, species 8472...)

Im short, many... many things.
