Oh I like your list except for Mars Attacks - I just didn't cotton on to that one.

I haven't used all my votes yet because I had such a long list I decided to vote a couple each day to see what else everyone was voting in.

Here's just some of the ones I'm considering :
Dune, Enemy Mine, Marooned (1969), Rocketship X-M, This Island Earth, Metropolis, When Worlds Collide, Spaceballs, Fortress, Andromeda Strain, Westworld, Escape From New York, Planet of the Apes (original), The Time Machine (original), Earth Girls Are Easy

I'm sure I can find some more. Is it telling that most of my list is around or over 20 years old?? Come on people think pre Star Wars!! There are lotsa good ones made earlier than 1977 (I know, probably older than some of you)

Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women. And the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who is confronted with it.

Oh, and I'd just like to send out my undying love and green to those who helped vote Sky Captain through to the next round.

I nominated The Time Machine (the original of course) so you would be vote #2 RealmOfX. *hint hint*

I love Spaceballs, TS, but I wasn't sure if we were going to consider spoofs sci-fi but if Galaxy Quest is in then Spaceballs has to be. As far as Planet of the Apes is concerned, it better be the original were are talking about here.

ETA: Ptah, Spaceballs has 3 votes. Trek Girl nominated it. And frinky and Thunderstorm voted for it. Plus you need to take Superman off the list needing 2 votes since it gets a free pass.

                  My votes:

                  1) Contact <--- you haven't posted it as already having votes, such a great movie!!! (And even better book!!!)
                  2) Solaris
                  3) Starman
                  4) Waterworld <--- I think I'm the first to vote for it!
                  5) Dune <--- Thanks RealmOfX for reminding me of this one! (Can it be considered a movie or a miniseries??? Should I vote for the whole franchise??)
                  6) Tron
                  7) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (supporting Trek Girl )
                  8) Men in black <--- how come no one voted for it??
                  9) Men in black 2 <--- so the fist one won't feel lonely....

I keep my 10º vote for tomorrow...

Ptah, I noticed that Star Wars VI - The return of the Jedi - is not on the list... *what are you doing forgetting such a classic sci-fi movie????* ??
Courses that I would most definitively take at the Stargate University:

Ascension, Descension and the importance of flags, by Dr. Daniel Jackson
(Thanks to Merentha for proposing it!)

Ptah, I know this may be late but since we've got the Predator series as a pass (I guess I just don't get that) I think we should let the Planet of the Apes series have a pass. (Yes I can hear you screaming)

And if it doesn't get a series pass can I have some clarification as to which movie is in the list so I know whether I have another vote.

And since at this time I don't know if I have another vote, I realized no one voted for The Running Man. That was a great movie.

(Damn, I was hoping no one would notice Dune was missing)

OK, this has been bugging me coz I remember the story but can't remember the title/actor so I can't search it in IMDB, I want to put this as my last choive, so please help me if you remember the title.

There's this archeologist/scientist who ate a kind of plant in Amazon-ish country, the leaves could turn him into monster, he ship those leaves & some artifacts in a ship to his museum-lab in an American city, but when the ship arrive in the city, all the ship-crews were killed. His collagues put his artifacts in the museum, on the opening-night, the monster eat/kill the attendants one by one even the SWAT teams who arrive later. At the end his collagues realised that the monster is in fact himself (whose DNA has mutate).

                            Ring a bell ??

Big thanks to Missster.Freeman who gave me the title of the above. It's The Relic , but based on IMDB it's horror/thriller and not sci-fi , I thought there's enough 'fake' science in it to make it sci-fi, it's afterall a B movie

Anyhoo... PTAH!, if you can accept that than THE RELIC is my 10th choice, otherwise it's THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN

*grumbles* I just realise there's so much more I want to nominate

Because of the size of the list, I think we need special rules for the first couple of rounds... something like vote longer, but vote more off in the beginning....
