Hi, hello, good evening. *waves* I'm Lucy, I've just joined and I'm absolutely crap at writing introductions - how much is enough information? How do I know if the nuggets I'm giving out are suitably interesting? It's also very possible I over-think the issue.

No question, charcoal is better, and I use one for anything special in the summer.
But I use the BBQ year round to avoid getting that slimy grease coating on the range hood and walls in the kitchen. It's just not practical to argue with a charcoal grill in the winter months.

Don't be silly. regardless of the season, I don't fry or broil anything in the house, I use the BBQ outside.
Even with an exhaust fan over the stove, over time, continual frying/broiling/etc leaves a thin film of grease on the range hood and walls around the stove/oven. With my screwed up arms, it is very difficult and somewhat painful to clean that.
It is better to just avoid making the mess in the first place.
