Because "reputation" is given to you by hitting the little star underneath your name. This icon appears with every post you make, and thus the reputation will usually relate to that post. However, sometimes it doesn't like when people are handing out random "greens" (reputation) because of birthdays, holidays, theme-weekends.

These messages will show up on your My Controls-page, right underneath your subscribed threads (you automatically subscribe to a thread when you post in it). And a Notification will alert you of either a Private Message, a Visitor Message (as viewed on your My Profile-page once you're passed Newbie-status) or a Reputation.

Also, I will not ignore you - unless you want to discuss Stargate Universe. I wouldn't be able to converse with you on the subject cause I haven't seen that incarnation of Stargate. So, it wouldn't be ignoring you, just wouldn't know anything about it to add to a possible conversation.
