'Probie' Status for New Members

All you have to do is post around the forums for a while till you get past Probie Status.

Aftermath and other games are more intricate than normal section threads,and aren't as active as they used to be,so instant rp isn't possible even if you were able to join up immediately.

(Once you get to the point where you need to submit your OC etc ,that'll have to be approved by a Game Manager, so if they aren't available right away,drop me a message.)

I don't think I've ever seen a forum use this technique before, and it's great in theory, but I'm having a hard time with it. I can't change most stuff under "My Controls," but all I really want to do for now is change it so I get e-mail notifications when someone replies in a thread -__- It's somewhat difficult trying to remember what threads I commented in without being able to access that information in my profile... Even better, this message needs to be approved by a mod so I can't edit any errors or mistakes I've made right away.

Just a huge, impatient Stargate fan In the end, though, I'm just glad that an official database like this exists and I'm assuming it's the "go-to" above anything else on the web.

Probie moderation isn't just a theoretically great technique -it's prevented a massive number of Spammers ,hackers,stalkers,Phishers,Porno pedlars and other net pests from harassing GW Members and posting absolute filth since it was introduced.

I'm not slurring you in any way,in fact I've just taken you OFF Probie status.

Go sub to threads,do whatever you like within reason.

Been on a few forums that use this, have implemented it on a few too.

Stops spammers getting in so easily which can be an absolute nightmare and I have also found it to be a deterrent to banned members trying to claw their way back

Look forward to when I am off Probie status but I am more than happy to persevere until I am trusted enough, just do not give me Weir!

I think it's a great idea as well, cause a couple other forums I'm on get a lot of spamming, and there's one that I've not been on in awhile which seems to have been overrun with spammers lately, so yeah if it works to stop spammers then I think it's a great idea. And yeah, those of us who aren't spammers have to wait a little while before we can edit our profiles and stuff, but I think it's worth it because I'm so glad I've found this forum. I'm such a big Stargate fan and I grew up watching it along with Star Trek, and while I still love the other forums I'm on this is even more special because it's Stargate related , granted there's a section for other Sci-Fi/Fantasy type shows, but still, a forum mostly dedicated to Stargate is awesome in my opinion. And I can't wait to come off probie status.

Probies who've joined very recently : currently because of problems with the E-mailing system ( See the "Ask the Moderators" and "Downtime?" threads) you MAY not have recieved your registration e-mails,but whether or not you recieved them,you'll find your accounts have been validated manually.

Please keep the Username /Password you used to register and we'll help you get started ( if you haven't begun posting already,of course!)

I had to call Cox Communications because I couldn't access one of my email accounts. It was having email server problems.

That kind of thing happens from time to time here too,and requires the affected ISP's support Techs to "ping" GW.

If they still can't make the connection, Greg can run tests, but he'd need the ISP details sent through.

Right now we're mainly concerned that some of this week's Probies might think they can't use their new accounts,so we're posting around and contacting them to let them know they aren't stranded.

Great method with the probie stuff. When i hear probie, i think of that episode where in Tealc's dream, Jonas Queen is a probie. So it's cool.
