I think I read somewhere on GW that Darren's going to implement a theme selection system, does anyone know when or if this will be taking place?
If such a system were to be implemented, will there be a thread were members can post suggestions? (Personally I'd like a lightweight GW, one where I don't have to load a billion images)
And finally: Where can I send the bill for all the pants Tame has destroyed?
You are free to post any and all suggestions in the thread labeled *Suggestion Box* but please always understand those are suggestions and Darren reserves the right to not implement any of them
and ..... its not my fault your pants were on that last World
birthdays only show up if the person wants them to
You mean these settings?
So that's all correct, but s09119's birthday is showing up on his profile and all, it's visible. So is mine. And so are others, however, they are still not showing up here:
on the bottom of the main forum.
[ETA/]
Let me give you an example for today:
So this is what I'm seeing:
However, Commander Aegir for example has a visible B-day, but his name is not showing up there. Looks like a bug to me, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, but that's why I'm asking. I would never have noticed, if not for yesterday when s09119's birthday did not show up there, but it did on his profile.

I know there is a check box for it to be visible to all versus just friends...so maybe this has something to do with it
OR there are only so many spots in the bar OR its just a glitch...Greg OR Darren would have to answer beyond this point

Well, Jel said it had something to do with an activity requirement of the user. Isn't there a way to see all users whose birthday it is that day? I know I had one before, months ago, but it doesn't work anymore or I forgot how to find it.
I will have to do some checking myself but if I am not mistaken some things were disabled and/or curtailed due to teh drain on the servers
Ah, okay. Thanks! It looked like a calendar (with each day having the B-days on it), if that helps. The reason I stopped using that is that I thought the list on the bottom of the forum was the same. Seems now, however, it isn't.
And indeed maybe Greg or Darren will know why that is.
Oh, and can we have it enabled it again, for the B-days only? The new server is up now, and running very smoothly, so that would be possible, no? Do I need to ask Darren or Greg that? GW-suggestion-box thread?
Or is there possibly still another way to see all B-days?

It has been disabled for public use or viewing, it is still active for be hind the scenes use or you wouldn't see any birthdays
However, it could be that it is no longer adding birthdays.
Again the final answer to all this probably needs to come from Darren or Greg
So let's just wait for one of them to review the thread and answer and not turn this into a *chat thread*
Please excuse the tone of what I'm about to write, but:
These seemingly arbitrary mergings of threads have got to stop. It seems as if it's up to the whims of the mods what "deserves" its own thread and what doesn't.
I just made a thread about how the PTB bungled their first opportunity to show LGBTQ interaction on the franchise. It will hopefully deal with LGBTQ-inclusion on SG and sci-fi in general and about the history of the show and sci-fi, etc, i.e. it's not overtly about anything besides the episode "Earth", but it's not like it's a super-restricted "Earth"-only thing.
But it was quickly merged with the general "Earth" thread. It was merged literally within the first 5 minutes of its existence. Which would be OK if the rule is "If the nature of the thread or OP is limited to only one episode".
How about if the rule is changed to "If the thread can generate important discussion about a subject which will not receive enough time and space in the general thread, we'll leave it alone?".
Because we all know that unless it's something that the vast majority of the members will find interesting to constantly keep going, once a thread is merged into a general thread, it will soon die a fast death because of the spam that goes on in those threads. Way too many people talking about way too many things, so unless it's "super-mainstream" and a lot of people invest time in the subject, it will die within an hour or so because generally, people aren't willing to wade through pages upon pages of posts which have nothing to do with what they are currently discussing hoping to find a post discussing it.
And certain subjects need time because sometimes it'll take 10-20-30 minutes, an hour or a few hours in-between posts to keep the subject going because it's a "small" subject that not a whole lot of people will be interested in.

Tell ya what, I'll answer when I'm in the mood to deal with being lectured and berated for not modding to one person's personal preferences.
I wasn't berating the mods. I was saying that the rules and standards are way too muddled, seemingly arbitrary and at the present time, it serves to actually kill a lot of interesting and quasi-interesting topics of discussions because pretty much anything that doesn't directly deal with several episodes is immediately merged into the general thread, thus dooming it.
I mean, even if discussion continues for a day or two, eventually, it will die out. That is the faith of pretty much anything that gets discussed in the general threads.
Also, I've had several threads merged when they actually directly deal with more than one episode, which frustrates me to no end when threads that clearly deal with only a single episode are allowed to continue existing for days or even indefinitely without merging.
