One thing about the 'last post' not working. i've noticed a problem with the cookies lately. cookies are what tells the forum what you have and haven't read. I've noticed my 'not read' getting longer and longer and being mostly comprised of old posts
try, on the main page 'mark forums as read' and see if that helps.
it it isn't a lasting fix, if you do it once a day or so, then it should elminate 3 day old posts showing up as new ones
O.K that seems to have worked. Well I have only been on-line for a short while this morning but so far I am being put straight to the last post (newest) so, Thanks.
ImageShack now offers transloading, so you don't even need to download a picture to your harddrive to transfer it to a free image host. There is no excuse for hotlinking any more.
How come when you quote a post with a quote in it, the quote inside the post doesn't show up? For example, I quoted Qasim's post above this one. And this is all i got:
How come the quote inside Qasim's post doesn't show up?
What everyone else said. But you may find this info helpful.
It does help, thank you, greytop! I have seen some Mitchell Avatars, but it looked like the people who had him were over the "custom Avatar" post mark. I hope I don't have to wait that long, but, c'est la vie!
There's a Mitchell one in the Bonus avatars when you reach 800 posts, as I just discovered.

I've been away from the forum for a few days, and I see things in this thread have gotten a bit out of hand. Glad they settled down today.
We do see many of the same questions asked here, and the mods are grateful when other members who have heard the answer step in to share it. Unfortunately, it's led to an increasing amount of "You're not a mod, why are you telling me what to do?" syndrome.
To solve this, I am making three requests for everyone who wants to post in this thread:
1) Before you ask a question, check the FAQ (link at the top of every page), do a search, and quickly peruse the last few days' worth of posts here in the 'Ask the Mods' thread. At least 50 percent of the time, you'll find the answer.
2) No conversation in this thread. The thread is for people to ask the mods questions, and to get quick (and hopefully helpful) answers. Commentary, suggestions, and chatter are welcome -- but in a different thread, please. From now on we will be strictly enforcing this; posts that go beyond questions and the mods' answers, unless they particularly contribute something helpful to the exchange, will be deleted.
3) From now on, leave the answering in this one thread to the mods. That means that if you're asking a question, it ought to be something that only the mods can answer. For everything else, let's start a new thread in this folder for members to get help from other members (such as 'Ask for Help'). That thread should probably be larger and busier than this one, since most questions about the forum and how things work shouldn't require mod attention, specifically.
Part of the reason for doing this is that my online time is becoming more and more limited. I'm finally diving deep into my M.A. thesis, which will keep me very occupied until at least March. Our first baby is also due after the new year. When I do get a chance to visit the forum, I need to be able to get to the posts I need to see most and help those who need my help specifically. So consider it a personal request from the guy who publishes the goodies and pays the bills.
Hi, I have a little request:
There are three threads in the Characters&Relationships forum about McKay and Sheppard now, one is a slash thread, but the two others are basically about the same topic. I asked the two people who started those threads about merging the threads and they are both alright with it.
So could you maybe merge this
There's a Mitchell one in the Bonus avatars when you reach posts, as I just discovered.
Queen Eleta, thank you for letting me know.
Mods (specifically Darren & David): Why is Mitchell a "bonus" avatar when he is a main cast member? This essentially means that I have to post another 500+ posts before I can use a main cast member as an avatar. Maybe sometime around, oh say, this time next year I might be able to use Mitchell as an avatar.
Please accept this as the protest it is intended to be.
Darren has asked that this thread be for questions to the mods only.
He has asked that suggestions be taken to another thread:
2) No conversation in this thread. The thread is for people to ask the mods questions, and to get quick (and hopefully helpful) answers. Commentary, suggestions, and chatter are welcome -- but in a different thread, please. From now on we will be strictly enforcing this; posts that go beyond questions and the mods' answers, unless they particularly contribute something helpful to the exchange, will be deleted.
So we've now got another thread for these, which we (the mods and Darren) will be visiting as well as this one.

I remember Greg saying something about the forum being hosted in Perth but awaiting transferral to a DB elsewhere which should help to clear up the chokingly slow load times that some have been experiencing.
Will that move still be taking place? If so, when? And will that actually help with anything, or is it just a misnomer that things are slower because of the location of the DB? And if it's a misnomer, what IS the cause of the random instances of extreme slowness and can/is anything being done to fix it?
On a similar note to Shadow's post above, I've noticed that the forum takes much longer load ever since the last upgrade. Before the upgrade, everything loaded fine. Ever since the upgrade, the ads at the top of the page load instantaneously, but up to 10 seconds later, the rest of the page loads.
Is the longer load time caused by the forum upgrade? Or the distance between my computer and the host (perth, australia)? Or a combination of both?
