It seems like from 2010 onwards society hasn't just lost interest in sci fi but space altogether. It is slowly coming back due to SpaceX.
This sounds like a childish article.
It seems like from 2008 to 2013 trashy reality TV became more prevalent and people were more pressured to conform to stereotypes.
Why was the late 2000s/early 2010s so anti intellectual and materialistic?
Geek culture has become much more acceptable thanks to the MCU and Game of Thrones but did their success suck out all the hot air from the room? Did their success prevent the TV show producers from considering making a brand new space opera? There was The Expanse but it never became as big as the MCU or Game of Thrones.
With the MCU and Game of Thrones out of the way could a space opera become the next big thing in pop culture or could a space adventure could have become a pop culture phenomenon like the MCU and GOT during the 2013-2017 time period if it was good enough?
