The Unas is an Unas. The playable races to start with will be: Human, Jaffa, Tok'ra, Unas, and Aturen. Other races may come in future books, but this is where we are starting. However, the Human race could be played as though they are from any of the planets, not just Earth.

Also, we are still in development of the class/classless system. We've got a lot of playtesting to do to figure out what direction we want to go.

    Thanks

Brad : Thanks for the race confirmation. It is very kimd that you are responding to my questions.

I really loved the Skyrim skill system as all star constellation was about one-one skill. Maybe you should consider something similar with the glyphs, where all 39 would give a different bonus. Or the players could choose randomly seven so it would look like more a Stargate related rule.

By the way. Will you copy the basic characterization from the D&D (you know the lawful/neutral/evil 3x3 system)?

Will the races properly introduced? I mean will you write some race related chapters about their tribes, history, culture, religion, history, philosophy? It could be interesting to see different groups within the Jaffa, Unas, Aturen and Tok'Ra too. Even these steps could make so many motivations why they wanted to join or to help the SGC. Same goes with the Systemlords. Will you introduce new ones? Will we hear more about the Underlords and the hostile Jaffa Guards?

Is there anything how we can help? Don't be shy to ask questions.

You would have to make those skills pretty broad if you were going to limit it to 39. I've seen it done in games though, some with even less.

I mean there would 39 major skills and there could be still more versions of it (like a mini Skyrim rip-off). Or like it would be grouped up by 6-7-8 like 1-7 weapons, 8-15 technology 16-24 diplomacy 25-32 science 33-39 medical etc.

Or even the 39 bonuses could be completly independent from race/skill/class just really random extra bonuses what any players could get.

But anyway I am not a game developer, so I should leave this job for the professional guys.

That's a pretty cool idea. Could be something to work into the background system.

Yes, for sure. It is a really simple way to get one's head into roleplaying a character.

Yes, we'll have good bit of details on all of this. And yes, we'll be introducing new things in all the areas, where it makes sense. We got the okay from MGM to add things as long as it doesn't step on already established canon. It's a tricky thing to navigate.

We will be calling for help on writing in the near future. We will need writers for not only filling in the details like what you mention in the core rulebook, but we'll also be looking for folks to help in writing Stargate Missions which will be official "adventure paths" for GMs to use.

No, you shouldn't leave it to the professional guys.
They screw up, ALL the time.
I've put my foot (leg, half body??) into Games design, and it often suffers from blinkers thinking "my way is right".
D20 and the OGL (open game licence to use the D20 system) have really, and I mean REALLY hurt games design. (thanks WOTC)
Don't EVER discount your opinions just because you don't get paid for the job dude. Your idea ABSOLUTELY fits into the feel of stargate, and the Skyrim "star system" progression is a great example of a similar system.

39 skills can work, so can ignoring classes and letting players choose 7 "majority skills", at least initially.
The challenge is how you make it work.

Let's dive into this "chevron system" for a bit.
Characters can choose 7 skills from 39 skills to be the main focus of their character, at least at "level one"

That requires finding 39 skills that are relevant to a character "in game", and not either "fluff" or "overpowered". It then requires a level based branching system (Patschu's Skyrim model where a certain percent gives access to better materials or abilities)
It also requires characters to have the ability to learn newer skills, but that almost directly conflicts with the "7 chevron" system if you allow it (something else Skyrim/elder scrolls screws up).
You CAN make a system where you only need 7 skills to be a character, in fact, most games characters are defined by even fewer skills if you really look at them, but they are -defining- traits.
Take the D20 system. Warriors have better HP, better physical saves and better attacks, yet they lack skills. Rogues have better skills, worse attacks, better reactive saves and situational massive bonuses in combat.

I think, we are looking for a middle ground, and to dip into my past gaming again, it's something like traveller, or Mega Traveller, where the skills are massively broad but make sense. If "level one" of gun combat allows you to use any ranged firearm, but gave you a path to specialise in certain weapons, or classes of weapons, that's grand.
Piloting at level one allows someone to fly a modern jet, it would also help with a death glider as they are -similar- control systems.

It's up to the system to back these kinds of thing up.
Let's give Sam Carter 7 skills.
                  Ranged combat.
                  Science.
                  Piloting.
                  R&D.
                  Social interaction.
                  Command.
                  Medicine.

Sam displays all of these core skills at different levels over SG-1, yet she is different from anyone else in SG-1 because people like Jack or Daniel have a different core skill set. (Jack leans more to the military, Daniel leans more to the social) and that's where things like levels come into the picture for allowing "out of character" things. S1, Daniel hates guns, S6+ Daniel knows how to use one.

How do you make it WORK?

So they haven't cancelled it. Great. I was worried this RPG game will follow the curse of the SG merchandise. Hopefully they will share more "official" information here or with the GateWorld, so more people could hear about it.

There will be a kickstarter in February 2020 so anything could still happen, and I think they expect you to sign up to their website for updates, even though I'm sure Gateworld will keep us up-to-date as far as one reply of theirs on twitter said.
