And you guys still don't feel the need to have reliable health care plans? Or at the very least, a basic one provided by the Govt for those who don't have access to private health care insurances from their employers?
    Spoiler:
I don’t want to be human. I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter. Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can’t even express these things properly, because I have to—I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid, limiting spoken language, but I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws, and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me. I’m a machine, and I can know much more.

jelgate is partially right. Many people SHOULD have done a better job planning ahead. How many people don't have jobs and can't get them because they screwed around in the FREE public school system? Spent their time hanging on the streetcorner with their pals or getting pregnant when they had no business doing so?

Granted, that is by no means the situation everyone is in, but how many are in that boat?

Other problems are mass outsourcing of jobs; you're expected to work in this country, but that's rather hard to do when economic and trade policy encourages companies to ship jobs overseas. How many people are out of work or underemployed because of that? And please note that Trump is the first politician of either stripe who has tried to do something about that.

The problems with our health care system are not with the health care system, it is with the payment mechanism, which depends upon employer provided insurance. Fix the problems where people can't get decent jobs, and you'll fix the health care "crisis".

I'm not sure how you picture Canada's health care law but it only covers the basic healthcare except for the RAMQ. Anything else you pay (dental, eye, etc.) by insurances if not it's pricy.

So instead of getting ripped off by costly withholdings each month for basic services rendered at a (Monopoly controlled) fee, you just get a good deal out of it. Healthcare is not freebies in Canada. Not by a Longshot.

According to that RAMQ link, that covers most of the population's basic heath care.

Phrased that wrong, I meant it has more coverage including medicine costs.

BP Rig U-Turns After Greenpeace Ship Overtakes

In the early hours of Sunday activists attempted to re-board the rig for the fourth time, but the BP vessel towing the rig sped away from them. Greenpeace International activists then pursued and overtook the rig at around 1pm.

You're applauding piracy on the high seas? Aren't there laws against such things? Why aren't those laws being enforced?
Or at the very least, why isn't the oil rig defending itself? "Prepare to repel boarders" or some such.

I'm not a specialist in maritime law, but that has to be illegal.

Yes I do applaud it. I recall not that long ago in the 90s how everybody thought those guys were completely nuts.

We keep getting screwed year after year, just now Canada authorized the Trans Mountain pipeline connecting Alberta and their nasty shale oil stuff to BC. This administration we elected on the promises that they would fight climate change tooth and nail and invest in clean energy. I know Trudeau did it reluctantly and decreed all profits will be invested in clean energy, it's still bs.

Canada never met its international engagements nor intended to under the conservatives and now the Liberals are barely keeping up under scandal pressure. Nothing actually significant got done.

Well I am forced to consider that they were absolutely right all those years unlike most social justice warriors. They are nuts I'll give you that but now I see this much more as courage than anything else. They're not kidnapping immigrants for starters, they're causing huge loss to BP an oil magna that doesn't have its place in our world anymore.

And the worst in all this, BP wants to drop in a NEW rig. A new rig are you kidding me we can't even reduce the amount of fossil fuel we burn each year and those guys wants to tap the sink open again.

a true political conservative WOULD want this in at least some basic form

conserving the public health is a keystone to conserving the nation's strength

just like education (or the lack thereof) is

you cannot have uneducated/mis-educated people legislating, policing or defending the nation and you cannot have chronically ill / unfit ones doing it either

(note- out of the small group of americans who have both the propensity to enlist and can pass the aptitude test for enlistment, and, do not have a criminal background, many of those cannot pass the enlistment physical due to unknown med conditions, and other 'botched' american medicinal practices---and, yeah, too many are too fat)

"As Americans we believe we have the best healthcare system in the world. But think again, it’s really not the truth. We do have superb medical schools, very well trained providers, superb science and technology but the delivery of medical care is just not what it should be. We spend more for healthcare than any other country does on a per capita basis.

And yet when we compare ourselves to other countries, especially developed countries, our outcomes are not better. Our life spans are somewhat shorter than countries such as Japan and our infant mortality is somewhat higher than countries like England and France. We tend to focus on disease and injury but not so much on illness prevention and health promotion. We all recognize that as a society we have some adverse lifestyle behaviors such as overeating a non-nutritious diet, being fairly sedentary, having chronic stress and having 20% of us still smoking. It’s quite clear that the best chance we have for increasing our life span and overall improving our health is to adjust our personal behaviors and to do so at an early age.

                                [...]

we have a medical care system not a healthcare system. What we need in America today is a focus on health care meaning a greater focus on disease prevention and health promotion beginning in childhood and a recognition that chronic illnesses are the ones that not only last a lifetime but are also the diseases that are driving the high cost of care. These costs can be brought down and can be brought down quite substantially through a better approach to patient care, one that coordinates the care intensively while using a multidisciplinary team approach.
                                "

Health care and medical care are two different things -- which you have gotten confused.

Sure, you have quite the medical professionalism in house but as far as health care goes, you're trailing behind.
