i was really entertained by this episode. There was some great character moments and a part of me is so glad to see Culper and Stamets back together again. Georgiou, Tyler and the S31 Captain were very cool and i loved how the concept of a commbadge was introduced here.

Otherwise I think I’m going to need some thinking about this. I’d be fine with this as a concept if say Disocvery had to go back to the point in space that Tilly disapeared. And the the way Culper was ressurected would have been helped if we had more information and build up on May’s race. It’s not so much that I don’t buy it, just that I feel like i am lacking some information here. I can just about get my head around the idea that memory and soul doesn’t just disappear at death because that’s kind of established with Star Trek already with the Vulcan Katra and a few other sources. Also you could argue that the only reason why it was possible at all was because Culper, like all the crew members aboard Discovery had been through the Mycilial network and thus that has something to do with it, coupled with Stamets’ connection to it.

Despite these niggles I still loved the episode though. I love the sense of friendship throughout the crew. Stamets and Burnham would do anything for Tilly and Pike trusts the crew to do whatever’s needed.
Please do me a huge favour and help me be with the love of my life.

It was an entertaining episode. They are really building the "Section 31" spinoff as somebody commented on an other forum. I love Georgiou's character and it was good to see that nobody trust her. And when Michael told her off to go back to her snake pit then she started to hiss. It was funny acting.

I loved Tilly's storyline with Avatar type of landscape. It is amazing to see such special effect quality on television then they quickly returned to the existing sets. As soon as May mentioned they have rebuilt her, I knew where the episode will lead. We know it from Stargate that nobody can really die in scifi.

It was a bit funny to see how the crew were acting on explosions. Hehe. I loved how hall of room belonged to the other world. It reminded me to the latest Mission Impossible's scene when the van has fallen into the river. Anyway it was beautiful.

I also liked the dialogues between the Admiral and her two officers, the details about Section 31, the Tyler-Michael scenes. We will see if they can forgive him as well in time.

What I didn't like that much ... It was the opening and closing monologue. It was a bit too emotional in comparsion that Michael can hardly express herself as a pseudo-Vulcan. And somehow it reminded me to the "Desperate Housewives".

But all together... It was a great episode, but it was the weakest for me so far out of the second season. On the other hand, they have raised the bar nicely as so many scifi show could never reach this quality and entertaining standard. So well done, Star Trek : Discovery, it looks like they can't make a mistake this year.
"I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."

"Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."

"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."

That’s not really all that true. The only time we’ve really seen Burnham as Vulcan like is in flashbacks and when she first interacted with people in new ways. First with Tilly because it’s the first time she had to really make a friend (since before that she was a first officer and her only friend was georgiou and everyone else was a subordinate) and again with Tyler as she’d never been in love. In all other circumstances we can demonstrably see that she is full of feeling and can express those emotions, if not to the people around her then certainly to herself in private.

Most of it was alright but I didn't like Culper coming back alive again, it undermines one of the few good scenes last season. An him killing off the fungus world just didn't make end sense.

An when did tractor beams require special pods to be fired at a ship first for them to work? I don't like how everyone and their pet seem to know of section 31 existence.

I agree with you a bit on Culber. But at the same time I really like him as a character so I’m glad he’s back and hope they do something good with him. Though I have to admit when I first saw him my first thought was that this is what happened to the Mirror Culber which i think would have been pretty cool. Although it would have been a bit cliche.

The damage he was causing to the Mycillial world makes perfect sense though. He used the toxic tree bark to protect himself from the aliens. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d found other methods to weaponise it too to keep them away from him. To an alien species that probably has very limited notions of attack and defence it’s no surprise that they didn’t really understand.

Those weren’t normal tractor beams. We’ve seen Discovery use normal tractor beams before. These appeared to work as specialised moorings. The pods fire their own tractor beam at the S31 ship and the ship fires its own tractor beam back at the pods creating something that’s effectively double the strength. Yet another example it would seem that S31 tech is more advanced than regular Starfleet’s.

To be honest though I wish the pods were the main method of using a tractor beam. They’re a nice middle ground between the Enterprise grappler arms and the later tractor beams.

It still bothers me that not the Discovery ship was turned into the HQ of Section 31. Somehow I expected that the code of the ship was a hint for Section 31.

Anyway... I love this show. Season 2 is really amazing like Season 1 was, but they managed to improve things. I simply don't understand all this hate of so called "fans". There are plenty of character moments in this season and they managed to find the balance between character building, main story and action. Maybe I was misunderstood, but this show deserves to sit on the throne of scifi at the moment as there is no better on the market. I wish it would be more "challengers" (khmmm... SG, BSG, FarScape or Babylon 5 spinoff).

Agreed. Almost. I mean The Expanse is almost back too. That show is pretty much perfect.

I was kind of expecting DSC to have a deeper link with S31 too at first but I think I prefer that they don't (Though I am hoping they explain why there were black badges on board ship in season one and evidently aren't now.) I think when asked about the registry someone just said it was that because Halloween is their favourite holiday.

Late to the party as usual, my regular streaming site was offline for a while and I'm only just getting caught up.

As usual, Tilly gets the best lines - "Fall in." [beat] "That's military for 'get behind me'."

And is it just me, or do the uniform jackets actually look better with the collar undone?

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Hey same here, but I record to watch later.

For some reason my DVR cut the recording short 1-2 min, right in the middle of an action scene. I tried recording again the next day, same result. Chaka not happy.

And Brutak, anything with the collar undone looks better
                    Spoiler:
                    (Except Annoyed's)
                    Spoiler:
I don’t want to be human. I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter. Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can’t even express these things properly, because I have to—I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid, limiting spoken language, but I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws, and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me. I’m a machine, and I can know much more.

Purely from an aesthetic PoV, the asymmetrical collar always annoyed me.

All the intricate details on the uniform, the tiny Starfleet emblem printed onto the fabric of the side panels for example, seem to have been included to frustrate the "100% screen accurate or bust" members of the cosplay community.
