How many stasis pods were available in SG1 and SGA, and why didn't anyone think of manufacturing more of them to enable people to live longer, much longer??

As far as I'm aware, there's no count on the number.
Figuring out how to reverse engineer them is probably something they're working on at Area 51. In season 9, Mitchell gets his friend into an air force hospital that had "access to certain technology not available to everyone else just yet." Specifics were not mentioned, but the important takeaway is that they do devote time and resources to medical research that can eventually be released to the general public.
