I remember reading about phages as a young man. Phages literally make life on earth possible. Just in earth oceans at any one time phages are causing something like a third of bacteria to literally explode and spew nourishing organic material and stop bacteria from just overrunning the earths biosphere.

I have no doubt they are the future of controlling infectious disease. Unlike Antibiotics, the phages will adapt to any adaptions the bacteria make to become resistant.

The only other promising development i have seen is Manuka honey. Its disgusting to eat but the bees seem to naturally secrete antibiotics in it and research suggests there are other chemicals in it that prevent the bacteria developing resistance. I've seen suggestions it should be the first resort for treating infected wounds and not a last resort.
