Major change in plans. I have a room reserved for Stargate 2019 at the Westin. There are two beds and the Stargate rate is $139/night plus taxes. The dates are June 20-23. I won't be able to attend the convention and haven't cancelled the reservation as yet. I haven't heard back from the person who wanted to be a roomie. If "you" want to keep the cheaper room rate for the convention, you'll have to contact the hotel directly to change the reservation in your name and debit/credit card. Like I had mentioned before, the Stargate 2019 room block is already full. Contact me via PM.

Hi there. I'm new here. Just found out about the convention and I'm interested in going but would like more info.
Is it worth it? (Yeah, I know I'm asking a rather biased group). I'd be travelling from Virginia so this isn't a tiny expense but I'd love the chance to meet some of the actors and just have a fun weekend. Not sure what to expect though.
Is it too late? I see posts from last year talking about booking rooms. If I can't find a room at the Westin then I will likely pass. I've never been to Chicago and don't really feel comfortable travelling around a town I don't know. Especially a town known for a high crime rate. Yeah, that's probably the main factor giving me some pause.
I'm really not a seasoned traveler. It's been a few decades since I've left my hometown but this is the first time in a long time that I've had the opportunity and I'd like to take advantage of it if I can.
Any advice?

Hi thanks for the answer. Yes, I saw Rosehawk's post about wanting a roommate but it was a while back so I figured she has already found someone. I can room with someone or get my own, it's not a big deal to me either way but would at least like to know a bit about a person beforehand. Rose, or anyone else reading this, if you are interested in rooming then send me a private message here and I'll give you my phone # and we can chat. I haven't booked anything yet, but did check out the con rate since Vecturist posted that it was available again. No luck there. They were probably snatched up fast.
I would definitely love a meetup. I don't know anyone else in my area that watches Stargate, or at least they don't love the show enough to go to a convention.
This will all be new to me. I haven't had the opportunity to travel for a few decades (Disabled parent and I couldn't leave her alone) so I'm just now getting back out into the world and my friends are encouraging me to go do something fun. They are picturing Vegas or a Skiing weekend but to me a Sci Fi Convention sounds like a lot more fun than losing in a casino or breaking my legs on the slopes and I'd love a chance to meet some of the actors on one of my favorite shows as well as other fans that also love the shows.
LOL, it's funny. I haven't watched Stargate in years. I actually just recently rented Justice League and enjoyed watching that and the more I watched the more I just kept thinking "hmmm, that guy looks awfully familiar". So I ended up dragging my old dvds out of the closet and have been binge watching since. It's nice. It's been just long enough since I watched them last that I can't remember how each episode ends.

Hi, new to forum.
Pyper, good to hear that u're trying to get out more, Chicago's not so bad in the inner tourist area. I had a good time for vacation and eating at all the recommended places.
Interested in going to this convention. Not usually my thing but I wanna try it at least once. Another chance to visit the Windy City as well.
