Is Extinction movie officially related to Homecoming novel?

I have just started reading the Homecoming novel released by Fandemonium and the plot so far seems to mirror the summary of the unproduced Extinction movie plot summary listed on this site. Are the two officially related?

If there are similarities at first, the plots soon widely diverge.
