Reminds me of my uncle who punked his mother-in-law by pretending to be my aunt's answering machine. It said she was taking a bath and couldn't get to the phone. The MIL called back 3 times... and never even realized she was talking to my uncle.

What a crazy bunch of fans are we!
Don't wory about me, if I calm down and close out my inner stress and if I really enjoy what I am doing then I am capable of talking in front of a bigger audience. I am not so sure they will enjoy it, but I will talk anyway. Hehe.
71 candidates? Is it good or bad? I expected a little more, but it shows how small is Stargate : Command. Maybe they expected a few hundred peoples, but I am not surprised that non-Access and the paperwork scarred people away. I will be interested what the others showed about themselves. Nice CGI scenes? Or cosplay? Or props? jJack/John/Ronon posters? Anyway I was honest and I have given myself, what is not really frequent nowadays. So as I said "whoever wins, the community wins." Probably experience, but maybe the future superfans will have some real voice.Last edited by Platschu; 07 February 2019, 02:52 PM."I was hoping for another day. To be honest, it's not a good look on a website that clearly has way more subscribers than a few 100. They are just bad at their community-relations.
I mean, I have them blocked on twitter, but even their tweets don't rake in more than 100 likes at a time or engage much conversation.
Also, let's not forget that they hardly spread the news -- far and wide -- so if you don't know about it, you can't engage.
I've seen quite a few replies of people who were simply not interested in the competition, for various reasons: no access was definitely one of the reasons. Gone_fishing (if you remember her from Command) said it best: "It's like helping to organize a great party and then being told you're not actually welcome to attend."
Others mentioned the hassle of travelling or the paperwork, or were just not in any capacity to film themselves or wanting to "out" them to the world. And the paperwork too.
My main reason is the no-access. I'm not the fan they are looking for so I'm not inclined to commit to their service. It's basic customer relations. If you don't treat your clients with the respect they do deserve, you're gonna have a hard time keeping them from engaging in your services.
But in all honesty, I can't commit to travelling anywhere alone. I have anxiety issues and need a companion (kinda like a service animal -- better not tell my sister that) to go anywhere where there's too much change or chaos happening. It's one of the main reasons I don't join my prop-group to conventions in the US (by which I mean Star Wars Celebrations -- next one's in Chicago in April -- still don't know the secret build they're making -- then again, I never got around to signing the Disney NDA so not privileged to know really). I'd panic-attack from start to finish.
With regards to low entries... as a final thought... and a worst case scenario...
It would, without a doubt, be a good excuse to not name winners -- which would suck big time because there are 71 people who made the effort to make a video. But that's just worst case scenario.
After all, who "won" that set visit to Origins?Heightmeyer's Lemming -- still the coolest Lemming of the forum

I always loved history and geography, but my parents insisted to be a doctor or pharmacist. I love travelling in groups or alone as both way have got so many advantages and disadvantages. If I am on an escorted tour, the people love my style and my jokes, so I am not that shy who I described myself. I still hate to read up text or to speak in front of an audience, but I can manage it if I have to do it. But back to the travels. If you just travel around just in Europe, there are so many lovely places to see. If I travel with a group, I don't have to worry about organizing anything, but then I have to accept that I have got a limited time for sightseeing, while if I am alone then I can watch and check whatever I want. Last year I have been in Napoli again and I've played a little Indiana Jones / Lara Croft while I have visited the Roman ruins around the vulcano. And I could only strongly suggest to visit Egypt for every Stargate fan, because if you know the gods, it feels like we are in a Stargate set. I used to love egyptology so much that I have bought the student books from the university, so it is not a surprise that my first flight has leaded my to Cairo.

I will have 2 weeks of holiday from the 10th March, so if I could win, it would be a really good sign that I can fly to the USA (again). I have been in L.A. a few years ago. I don't know where I am going. Maybe Madeira or Jordan or India, but if I could win then maybe I would visit some national parks in the West Coast again. Or visit Hawaii...

Basically the whole app is abadonned and maybe a really small team manages it, but they should definately hire someone for public relationship.
I just checked how "popular" the posts about the project were on the Feed, and both posts have less than 10 comments and around 50 likes -- that's pretty telling. Nobody cares enough to invest.
Especially since there are posts which have over 200 likes, and plenty more comments.

I've been to Carnac ... in France.

I am guessing they wrapped up the production really quickly as I am guessing even renting a ruined building or paying security guards must have cost money. So when the winner was announced then maybe the set was boxed up already. I don't know anything about this game as I haven't joined the SG:C immediately since I have waited a few months.

Edfu is amazing like most of Egypt. I wish they could have shoot a few episodes in Egypt as the "real" ruins could have been the best sets.
If we ever get a new SG movie or spinoff, they should really use some footages as digital background or inspirations. There are so many lovely natural wonders are on Earth, so they should show us something new in the next generation SG projects.
Back to the competition. There was an other announcement news a few weeks ago and that has reached 160+ likes. Maybe you haven't seen that one or it is visible only for the chosen sixs. Oops."I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."

Most of what's on it, usually is a rehash or some done-to-death-article. Or my favorites the ones only available for all-access that are still showing up (hence why I said I would block the entire place from showing anything that's only available to all-access).Heightmeyer's Lemming -- still the coolest Lemming of the forum

But on a more serious note, I'm not even sure that would be possible considering how tightly regulated the historical sites are controlled right?Spoiler:I don’t want to be human. I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter. Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can’t even express these things properly, because I have to—I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid, limiting spoken language, but I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws, and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me. I’m a machine, and I can know much more.

I was talking about digital backgrounds. I know that they could never shoot an episode abroad and definately not at an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Imagine the renting price for a few days or the costs of flying... Stargate was always just a "cheap" tv show. Just such ancient ruins or national parks could be inspiration for animators when they are planning digital sets or new worlds... For example if we could get an SG game, they should study the local Egyptian ruins then the whole location would be more believable in the game. If you have ever watched "Earth 2" that tv show has gone with that German advertisment that : "we are the aliens". This sentence grabbed my imagination, because if we could visit an other world, then we would be the "aliens" there. On the other hand, why would we want to visit other races or cultures if we are not able to discover our own on Earth? That is the reason I was thinking that the next-gen SG must invest some money into more CGI worlds or digital sets. As I have said earlier, our generation could accept a standing picture / painting / whatever as an alien planet, but the younger audience must be impressed. Maybe it would be still cheaper to build those models if they could use some already existing one from Earth as models. Even if they could add some strange trees in blurred picture in the background then the whole scene would feel more alienish... That is the reason I love travelling, because if I could visit a new country with a completly different climate and plants, then I feel I am on an other planet somewhere. Such experiences really made an influence on me and I am not surprised that they say that travelling is addictive. It really helps to think outside of the box, what can be inspiring for an artist.Last edited by Platschu; 08 February 2019, 02:11 PM."I was hoping for another day. No update here everyone - I just wanted to say that we're totally blown away by these videos. Seriously, every single one that I've seen so far is absolutely amazing, and we've been watching for hours. Great work, thank you so much, and I really hope we can find ways to involve everyone somehow, because it's clear you've all got a lot to offer Stargate and SGC.
If you read the comments, it looks like I am not the only one who was confused about the paperwork."I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."

Because of this, I guess some will probably be disqualified because they didn't fill out all the forms correctly. Maybe the jury will show some leeway, but I don't anticipate it (due to the official nature of it).

They helped me as well as I have mentioned it on Wednesday. Honour is one of my first principle, so I have felt that I was cheating as I have got some support. But I am guessing they helped out everyone and I shouldn't worry about it just I am that silly that I started to worry about such things. I also asstill feel shy as I have re-watched my video, it could have been done so much better. I have hardly watched into the camera, my voice is a bit weird and there are lots of stuttering 8at least 5-8 mistakes in 3 minutes). Even the grammar was wrong. Yay. So I wouldn't accept myself if I could be them as I was not that really convincing. I still feel a bit ashaming that we are really talking about something personel on these videos and maybe other people will laugh at us. But we will see the "results" in 16 days.Last edited by Platschu; 10 February 2019, 06:26 AM."I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."

Originally posted by Falcon Horus View PostAs far as I could tell, from the few seconds I looked a few days ago, it seemed like they made sure everyone's paperwork was in order so if something was missing or filled out wrong, they made them aware of it and helped to correct it, so I think those will be minimal.
I guess, if they want to get everyone involved, there really were not too many entries.
