(Assuming, of course, that the 'source' is accurate in the first place!)
and often times, in shows as anticipated as this, they do not put the correct character name or even any name up until much closer to the release date

but yes i agree, to your point, did everyone go around using their full multi syllable name? its a natural thing to refer to shorthand even in a person's name

still getting frustrated with all of these self appointed, fandom menace youtubers still making videos based on their ignorance of Tolkien's works and making claims that it is a remake of LOTR's.

i mean, do a google search and see just what and when '2nd age of middle earth' means

but no, they are in such a rush to pump out more 'expert videos' to their fans, they neglect stuff like facts from the source material

a video i saw today had the guy saying he thinks the actress named may be playing a Hobbit! because, you know, Tyra sounds like a Hobbit name!

Correct me if I am wrong, but Hobbits were not even in the Shire in the 2nd age were they? Weren't they still along the northern Anduin somewhere at the beginning of the third age?

THEY NEED TO change the name of this show as soon as possible, the balance of using lotrsonprime from being beneficial in the buzz generation, is turning negative by both these fandom menace types and people like me getting frustrated that using that name is very imprecise and just lazy

but- just want would be a better name that people other than tolkien fans would be attracted to?

Yeah their exact origin isn't really known, just that they're an offshoot of Men.

Earliest recorded history of them is, as you say, near the Anduin early in the Third Age, between the Misty Mountains to the west and Mirkwood (at that time still the Greenwood) to the east. Smeagol and Deagol were hobbits of this group. It's really not known when they migrated across the Misty Mountains and into Eregion, but I would speculate it wouldn't be until the Third Age sometime.

Eregion in the west was embroiled in the wars with Sauron for much of the late Second Age, and then for a number of centuries into the Third Age it would have been part of the kingdom of Arnor, and then it took a few more centuries to dissolve into several kingdoms, those kingdoms plus and vs the Witch King of Angmar around 1500-1600 TA, and then to finally collapse completely into the no-central-government/unclaimed region we're most familiar with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings nearer the end of the Age (approx. 3000 TA). I'd speculate that it's unlikely Hobbits migrated out of the east and into Eregion until roughly 2000 TA.

I suppose it's possible hobbits were around in the Second Age, it's not like an entire species just emerges from nowhere. But they really don't appear in the lore at all until early in the Third Age.

the Hobbits were defi. around, far to the east. They probably left Hildorien along with the other races of men who left there to flee from Morgoths' agents. But, seeing how the migration was probably all on foot, and being of shorter stature, it would make sense that they got left behind by the faster pace of 'regular' men.

then too, there are the Dru-edain. they were not hobbits but were also short of stature. for whatever reason, many of them were able to keep up withe the Edain and come into Beleriand with them. if i remember right-i think it was in Children of Hurin (or maybe one of those history of middle earth books?) where it was told how a large group of them came into Beleriand with the house of Haleth and were considered by the Haladin as being a part of their community though they remained apart (no intermarriage, etc) they were even part of the migration to Numenor when the Haladin went there.

        ----------
so much beyond the Hobbit and LOTRs, that when you read all of it, it makes you realize just how much Tolkien never got to put into published print other than his notes and letters

such a vivid imagination and an integration of his stories and 'backstory' with northern European myth and peoples/language. knowing this makes one even madder when you see the ya-hoos on the net making these crazy predictions solely based on their viewing of 6 movies

oh well, more patience to see what is actually produced and hope it lives up to the Tolkien name and 'yay' for the Tolkien expert having to be on set/ in meetings per the agreement with the Tolkien family, hope they keep tptbs 'straight'

I’m speculating, obviously, but I think it’s a safe bet this means they’ll be filming in NZ, just like the films did.

yes, i read elsewhere that it will be NZ.

i guess they looked at scotland but supposedly issues/uncertainty with brexit and labor issues made them go to nz

I don't think it even started filming but could be wrong. Don't think it would have finished filming.

just found this from this month, it has begun filming and has been halted due to corona

they are still looking at a dec 2021 release date

Filming began in early 2020, with Bayona posting a behind the scenes image of a tree. "The light from our set accidentally cast on top of a tree and it made it look like a strange cloud from a Miyazaki movie. #nightshoot," he captioned the image on Instagram.

Filming has since stopped due to coronavirus. Whether the delay will impact that rumoured December 2021 release date remains to be seen. Hopefully, that date is far enough away, meaning the interruption shouldn't have too much impact.

I believe they have ordered 5 seasons (100 episodes) anyway with a budget of 1 billion (!), so we will have plenty adventures ahead of us.
"I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."

"Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."

"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."

the article states -or seems to- that they are filming s1 and s2 eps at the same time. makes sense for locations and actor availabilty i guess

5 seasons would be great, no reason we couldn't get the whole of numenorean history out of that. including material from the unfinished tales book (i believe its that one)

                        ----------------
aggravating is that some sites are STILL publishing articles talking about gandfalf, gollum aragorn, legolas and hobbits being in it, even after it has been announced its a second age story-- obviously those article writers only saw the movies and never opened a book and have no clue as to the true scope of Tolkien's works

for me, if they used people who look like this, with little added on make-up/prosthesis, it would be far more in keeping with Tolkien's Orcs

more like "unfortunate" looking ppl rather then the near monsters of Jackson's movies

New Zealand talent agency BGT Actors Models & Talent has issued an open casting call for “funny looking” actors or people with scars, burns, missing bones, and more (via The Guardian) to most likely appear as extras in the series.

i know production, filming are in full swing in NZ

seems however, the only place you can easily get this info is in negative spaces-- like the so called "fandom menace' group of YT'rs who have a monopoly on pessimism

this guy doesn't get that Tolkien, in the in betweens, left room for all types of vice and debauchery in Numenor after Sauron gained influenced there and defiled the temples with human sacrifice and other deviant and evil acts... would sex magic be left out?

and, they forget that thestudi has a contract with the Tolkien estate where they cannot put in anything not Tolkienesque with a family appointed tolkien specialist on set with disapproval authority

other issues he has too, mostly hold overs from other shows and movies involving tptbs.. but, he does state the production is moving forward
