I thought strength would actually have a bearing on this sport, for example, hitting the ball further and running the bases faster.

But from what I gather, baseball was discontinued as a sport in the Trek universe when the fan numbers fell too low.
There was a line somewhere that the last game ever had only minimal spectators.

I wonder if Emissary Day is celebrated with a game of baseball now.

Ironically, Max Grodenchik was actually a pro baseball player, he had to play left handed to give a convincing performance of a bad player.

Of course physical ability matters but their are documented cases where less abled players do better because they work better as a team

yup....physical ability is only half the battle in any sport....if you have the physical ability but don't have the teamwork.....you're almost guaranteed to lose

now imagine if Sisko was into hardball instead...prompting this Vulcan captain to do the same.....I wouldn't wanna be anywhere near the line of fire of a hardball thrown by a Vulcan
