The Seed Ships, Vanguard of Ancient Exploration? The Purpose of the Gates and was Des

It is established on the show that Destiny was sent out to explore the universe for the purpose of understanding the code leftover by the radiation of the Big Bang. It is also stated that the Ancients intended to board the Destiny when she had gotten so far out into the universe. The exact point as to where or when they would have reboarded her is never established. One possibility that I have thought is that it was when Destiny went beyond the limits of space that had been explored or space that can be observed from the Milky Way.

The Seed Ships go ahead of Destiny, plant stargates on various worlds and pass this information onto Destiny and this allows her to navigate her course through the universe. The nature of this information and how it affects Destiny's course is never stated. Do the Seed Ships pass on information that allows Destiny to better explore The Code or do they simply plant stargates on worlds that may provide the necessary resources Destiny needs to continue?

If the Seed Ships are planting stargates on worlds for the collection of resources, were they doing this throughout Destiny's mission? Destiny functioned without a crew for most of its life. It was in fact designed to do this. Destiny only needed resources once a crew boarded her. Did Destiny and the Seed Ships continue on their course in the event that a crew would eventually board Destiny and the gates left on planets as they may prove to be useful at some point? Could the gates have been left on planets as they would allow the Ancients to eventually explore the worlds in a galaxy without the need of spaceships?

If this second reason is correct, were the Seed Ships the vanguard of Ancient exploration? Did the Seed Ships plant Stargates and the Ancients eventually visited those worlds and set up colonies or something.

We know Destiny visited the Pegasus Galaxy, but we don't know if the Ancients had already been there at some point prior to the arrival of Destiny.

The Ancients were already well travelled prior to the launch of Destiny. The Ancients' home galaxy is much further away from the Milky Way than Pegasus is. If it were not, the Ori would surely have known where the Ancients were and gone to wipe them out much earlier on than when the unleashed the plague.

In regards to the Ori, could it be possible that the Ancients already knew of the Code prior to them leaving their home galaxy? If this is the case, could the Ancients have collected the information on the Code as they travelled to the Milky Way? If they didn't know about the Code prior to arriving at the Milky Way, did they programme Destiny and the Seed Ships to avoid going close to the Ori Galaxy?

Perhaps Destiny is able to collect the information it needs without having to visit every galaxy and it was not therefore not necessary to travel by the Ori galaxy.

The Seed Ships and Destiny share a similar design. This maybe that they were built by the same civilisation, but it could also be that they were explicitly built for the same mission and both were designed together.

If they were both designed, and presumably built together, what did Destiny do after the Seed Ships set off? Had the Ancients already collected information on the Code during their exploration and colonisation of the Milky Way or was Destiny necessary for this? Did Destiny have to travel around areas of space that had already been explored? We know Destiny visited Pegasus for instance, but had the Ancients already visited it?

If Destiny was traveling around areas already explored was it manned at that point? It has always puzzled me as to why Destiny had mundane things such as duvets. Would the Ancients have not thought they could bring these things when they boarded her?

Much debate has been had about the difference between the design of the Milky Way gates and the Destiny gates. It has been suggested that the Pegasus gates are some sort of prototype gate.

I don't think that can be the case however. The rough outline design of the gate as seen in the Ark of Truth resembles the Milky Way gates and also, as the gates have nine chevrons and the address for Destiny is the only address that requires nine chevrons, the Milky Way gates must have been designed with the Destiny mission in mind. The only other option is that the Ancients built and distributed the Destiny gates first and then updated the gates, but also decided that Destiny should only be reachable with a specific nine chevron dual sequence and so went to Destiny to make sure it would only accept travellers who had dialled that address.

The simpler design of the gates could well be that they are less sophisticated as they are designed to be so. The Ancients may well have thought that the resources for building gates could well have been in shorter supply in different galaxies and the gates needed to be built therefore as easily as possible with the minimum resources possible.

It is inferred from chatter that its the latter. The seed ships have plotted out a course with necessary resources for the destiny.. Hence why it picked those specific planets to drop out of FTL after the gang came aboard..

Yes it seems like the seed ships were doing that for the entire mission. And as Rush iirc said, the ancients DID eventually plan to gate TO the destiny, but maybe the war with the wraith and such prevented that, or changed their idea.. Pushing them to ascend instead.

Prior to Novus, we saw only ONE planet with signs of life.. The one with that big spider thing.. And that was an underground area.. So perhaps that galaxy had its own native life...

It is possible, that they knew of it before they left the Ori galaxy. Heck perhaps THAT was the cause of the initial schism.. That hey had learned of that fact, and were using it as a basis for why ori's belief in religion was flawed..?

IMO they only needed to basically do a "Slice" of the universe" to get that data, hence why the destiny has been on somewhat of a straight course ever since it left the Milky way.. SO IMO yes, it was designed to skirt the Ori's galaxy..

It's been specified twice in the show, that they were built for the same mission. BUT whether the seed ships were done first then they got onto building the destiny, after, or during, is up in the air..

IMO it visited Pegasus before the Ancients left Mikly way. BUT that is my opinion..

Perhaps they felt it best to already have the stuff on the ship rather than bring it.. Also maybe they knew that the further out it went, the 'more power' would be needed, and thus the issues we saw with the team (and the LA) being flung out when they gated in eventually. So thought, it best to have the stuff there waiting for them, rather than risk breaking it by bringing it with them when they went..

Exactly.. The destiny gates are the mark 1s, the MW ones are mark 2s, and the pegasus are mark 2.5s.. After all we have not seen a single digital one in the MW< but damn near ALL in the pegasus are digital. Additionally only in the pegasus galaxy have we even seen space gates..

So does Destiny follow the resources or the code?

So the Seed Ships sole purpose was to plant stargates so that when a crew finally arrived on Destiny, they would have resources? The stargates in Pegasus are an obvious upgrade on the Milky Way gates, but could there have been a gate network across Pegasus that was there thanks to the Seed Ships and the Ancients replaced those gates with the updated variety.

I was thinking the Ancients might have colonised worlds closer to the Milky Way through the gate network left by Destiny. Perhaps not Pegasus, but what about the Ida galaxy.

Yes, I was thinking that maybe the Ori religion developed out of a belief about what they felt the Code meant.

I was thinking rather that the Milky Way gates were the first stargates designed and the Destiny gates were just a cheaper less sophisticated version designed and constructed for the Destiny mission. For the gates to have nine chevrons and the only time the nine chevrons can be used to dial Destiny, indicated that the gates and Destiny are part of the same project. The other option is that the Ancients knew about the code and had started the Destiny mission prior to the building of the gates and when they built the gates they designed the gates so that one of their specific purposes was to connect to Destiny.

Well it follows the Code through resource. I mean what would you do when you enter Destiny, you run out of the resources and you are without information if there's somewhere what are you looking for. Seed ships was send to help to set Destiny's course to it's destination with posibility of containing Life form. There was sent few seed ships to space. It is like Updating your system. You don't know what happens to your very first ship (She can be destroyed, ocupated, maybe just crashed somewhere, etc) so you send another one that will go to chase the first one with updated information and course to avoid problems that first ship encountered and give the better possibility to go futher than first one. But you still want to have good survival possibility when you came to Destiny. More you know more you can prepare next ship and yourself to possible problems. So the main purpose of the destiny didn't changed.
