    Replicators

Ok, so the Asgard discovered a replicator(s) on some random planet, and not knowing what it was or the danger it represented took it/them onboard. Only to have it/them assimilate the ship. When the Atlantis expedition discovered the Asurans he began researching their base code and changing it. Thor said that they had discovered a command in Reese to summon all replicators to "come forth", right? So dumb question here, instead of activating that code, why not try to write a new command to tell the others to self destruct? If the Asgard were so smart that should've been something to consider, unless you wanna argue that McKay was smarter than the Asgard? And in his mind he could argue that point with himself, but that's an argument for another time.

The Replicators had no true basecode. They were completely free to alter whatever they wanted to. The Asurans on the other hand had a basecode they could not alter.

The Replicator's base functions meant spreading, adapting and surviving. Anything that counters those base 3 would instantly be detected and shut off. A shutdown code would contradict their basic functions and thus would be stopped, especially since the code may take a while to spread and even mere seconds would be enough for the Replicators to shut out the command.

Therefore, the only way to lure the Replicators would be to use a code that would not contradict their nature and trap them.

except they escaped the trap because first found a crack in the casing of the time dilation device and shut it off. The Asgard once again because of overconfidence in their own superior intellect couldn't foresee the replicators discovering Reese and adapting her tech into their own and creating human form replicators.

It was never designed to be a permanent trap. it was designed to buy the Asgard time as they were losing, and losing hard. They expected the Replicators to eventually defeat the trap, they just didn't expect it to happen so soon

you forgot to mention that they didn't expect introducing Reese into the mix giving them the "blueprints" to make human form replicators

Reese wasn't anything special. The Replicators made a FAR more advanced version. Besides, it was the nanotechnology that allowed the replicators to exploit the fault in the neutronium cover. It wasn't something that could be foreseen.

Not that it matters: the Asgard were losing. They had few options and little time to work out the details.

"....wasn't anything special"?????? She was an advanced android with the capability of manipulating matter into whatever she deemed fit. I also believe that first said something to the fact that Reese represented a giant leap forward in the evolution of the replicators. Essentially planting the idea of developing a more advanced version of themselves. If I'd been the guy who made Reese when she first starting making replicators I would've deactivated her before they could've overrun her control and destroyed my entire world. It may have been possible doing this would've given me time to "fix" her to where she didn't have the mind of a child, and maybe she would've seen her "toys" as the truly evil things they were, maybe not.....

She used primitive nanotechnology not unlike the Goa'uld's nanocytes. It's like she's an abacus and the Replicators built a futuristic quantum computer out of it. With the technology Reese possessed the Replicators shouldn't have been able to escape the way they did.

Clearly the Replicators understood Asgard technology better than the Asgard.

I don't think it was that the replicators understood Asgard tech better than the Asgard so much as it was the ancient databases they would've gained access to once they controlled an Asgard ship that made the replicators seemingly "smarter" than the Asgard

Speaking of the Ancients database...how would the Asgard have gotten access to it since the "head suckers" only react to someone with the ATA gene?

                      They hacked it.

I'm pretty sure that it was exactly the problem that the Replicators easily adapted to any Asgard strategy or new technology. Hence they better understood it. I don't think the Replicators ever gained access to the ancient database.

I'm pretty sure at least a few of the Asgard ships the replicators took over contained at least a small amount of ancient knowledge. Why do you think Repli-Carter kidnapped Daniel, she needed his subconsciousness mind to help her understand it and find the weapon on Dakara that was the only thing in the universe that could defeat her.

Here's a thought....Reese made the initial MW replicator(s) as a "toy", and everybody's reaction was fear of her and her "toys." As a defense mechanism she ordered them to replicate at all costs and protect her. There was no evidence of replicators left on the planet when SG-1 discovered Reese. Question is where did they go? How did they get off the planet? If they didn't get off the planet, and that's where the Asgard found them why didn't they also discover Reese? If they did build a ship and get off that planet why didn't they assimilate other worlds in the MW?

IIRC she wasn't the initial MAKER of the replicators.. THey were from elsewhere and someone (an ancient) who knew how to make them, created her as an experiment on whether the replicators could be done safely..
