Crystal Tunnel Technology: The Alliance with the Tok'ra

Okay so in The Tok'ra Parts 1 and 2 we are essentially introduced to the Tok'ra, or those 'Against Ra'.

We learn that their bases are underground complexes made by growing crystals superfast to form tunnels and other rooms depending on the tunnel used.

Thanks To Jacob Carter and the suggestion of using Sick Humans as Hosts, there is apparently an understanding or Alliance between the two groups.

What always got me was how oneside the Alliance was at times. On more than one occasion the Tok'ra would not help and Earth essentially let them use a beta site as a place to hide out.

The Tunnel technology I would of assumed would of least been shared with Earth, but outside of a few episodes we never saw it.

Im of the view that the alliance with the Tok'ra was VERY onesided.

It wasn't. Though the tok'ra side of the alliance was rarely mentioned, they supplied us mostly intel. With Jacob Carter we effectively bought ourselves a place on their council too. The reverse was not true (no tok'ra had any say in earth politics).

Additionally there were many times that the Tok'ra loaned us ships..

Perhaps you are right.. the show just depicted it as One sided. I hadn't considered that.

I did like the fact that towards the end they essentially dissolved the alliance and 'cast' Jacob out because he was influencing Selmac too much.

I don't want to ruin your idea of stargate, but in many many cases the various conflicts are very one-sided.

The Tollan are depicted as huge A-holes even though they just directly caused a total extinction of another race by giving them technology. Then Earth comes along, says "well we want that technology" and we're super pissed they don't give it.

Similar things happen to the Tok'ra (hey we're a small band of spies who will inevitably go extinct. you have six billion replacements and can breed more. Of course we're going to be careful with our intel). Also, the Tok'ra were careful to not make other Goa'uld stronger. Earth's actions created some of the most powerful system lords like Apophis.

We're asking the Asgard to give us weapons and are angry they don't, but don't trust another race with our weapons.

The Tok'ra were slowly poisoning the Goa'uld tree while the Tau'ri were kicking it to see what apples would fall and this was the cause of the most Tok'ra deaths for their already dying race. The last thing they'll want is to give them a sledgehammer to shake the tree even more.

And even if they didn't give them tech, they gave them intel. They kept the SGC up to date on Goa'uld activity. Besides, the Tok'ra don't exactly have a fleet and we aren't handing out 304's.

Exactly if anything WE were the most one sided ones out there. In many cases, WE ruined what was already working, cause WE felt "our way is better and you are going to change period". Though i didn' see that many cases of us not willing to give weapons over..

Not "they" - Jacob did (unless the Tok'ra wanted something, like human help in attacking a target or test-subjects (remember those armbands with the super-power?)), he even had to STEAL the mothership tracking device during the Replicator-Goa'uld-War!

Same for helping us with ships (like say when Teal'c and Jack were stuck in that glider the guys at Area-51 tinkered with), that was mostly Jacob (and Selmak lost influence with the other Tok'ra because of that, because his host was a decent human being who wouldn't follow orders he didn't agree with and not docile like say Martouf!)

                So yeah, I agree!

Hell, the Tok'ra could have given us hyperdrive technology, shields and Goa'uld-Type-Weapons...we on the other hand could have helped them with equipment manufacturing (we have industry, the Tok'ra really do not! They steal and pillage, just like the Goa'uld, sure they steal from the bad guys, still: We could have given them so much if they had only given us access to the knowledge we needed (we could have build them ships similar to a cargo-ship and/or an Alkesh, if we knew how to replicate the technology!))...hell, with their tunnel-crystalls we could have had several alpha-sites (because the cost of making them would go down!)

Sure humanity could have done better as well (more hosts, inviting a Tok'ra to join the Atlantis expedition, offering whatever intel we had (and technology the Tok'ra might not have ever seen, like say that Ancient healing device the sarcophagus was derived from!)), still their behaviour was at least as crappy as ours!

                greetings LAX
ps: The ****tiest alliance however was the one with the Free Jaffa! We helped them and they never truly helped us!

Just imagine if earth allowed the tok'ra access to Atlantis?

Why would we? They often don't let us in their secret places, let alone share stuff.. SO why should we share with them?

For exactly that reason, It's all about reputation. Sure, we wouldn't get anything useful at first besides Tok'ra personnel assisting with reverse engineering(actually that's a good enough reason because they're goa'uld, that's their thing) but successful alliances require mutual trust and goodwill, something everyone seems to lack in Stargate.
