The 5th Anniversary of the series finale of SGU and the end of Stargate on television

In just 1 week - on May 9, 2016, Victory Day and the 71st anniversary of the liberation of Prague - we, all the members of GW and Stargate fans all over the world, remember not just the 4th anniversary of the series finale of Stargate Universe and the end of Stargate in television, but also the anniversary of the very day the GW Forum had its most number of users.

Just as I said last year, when Stargate opened its doors on television none of us expected that it would reach the heights to where it is now. Within a span of 13 years and 10 months, the legend grew from vision to vision, and from strength to strength, with a growing number of supporters and admirers all over the globe. Till it ended on May 9, 2011, on a very day the fandom will never ever forget, the Stargate franchise on TV was indeed unforgettable. The cast, special effects and huge response were part of the legacy that is now in our hands.

Those of you who were in GW at the time of that final episode will never ever forget the final scenes of SGU on that very night that GW hit the most number of users (before the record was again broken last October). As the curtain began to be dropped, the campaign by fans of the franchise on Facebook began to hit momentum, and in the months and years that followed those loyal fans faced attacks on them by the network leadership, and their accounts on FB were removed and blocked, but they stood strong.

The years may have come and gone, new members join, but we're still here.

And the franchise that we all love is gone from television, but will soon make a comeback - after 22 years - in the movies.

This coming Monday, we reflect on this final episode that marked the end of Stargate on television, recalling the best moments, and with great humility remembering these great years that will be forever part of television history. Because all of us here in GW were and are indeed, a part of this legacy. A legacy that will one day return to the movies and on television, and is calling us back today.. to see and feel where the Destiny is heading. Next. And now that Cheyenne Mountain's airbase is getting operational again we therefore hope to see the Gate on our television screens and our movie screens all over the world, opening itself and being reactivated... once again.

It's our turn now to treasure these great years for the sake of our tomorrow.

For those of you SG fans in the US or outside the US who would want to be there in Colorado Springs, CO in honor of this anniversary - as well as the anniversaries of the TV premieres of SG-1, SGA and SGU plus on October 28, the anniversary of the movie release - please be noted that public tours through Cheyenne Mountain Air Station are restricted to those related to the actions and activities of NORAD and US Northern Command, as well as to the United States Air Force, especially for those who are related to the men and women who work in this place. This means only a few of you fans who have family or friends working will be allowed. As per the NORAD-NORTHCOM FB page these are allowed only for those people and/or groups who "meet the specific NORAD- USNORTHCOM mission-nexus requirements. Groups must have a mission-critical rationale for visiting the mountain, where the tour is essential in performing their daily functions in defending the homelands".

For only those SG fans in the US, especially those among you who live in Colorado, if you are to plan to go ahead, please contact the NORAD Public Affairs Office or at the Petersen AFB PAO in Colorado Springs. Make sure to bring federal ID cards.

And for more things to do in Colorado Springs, check out http://www.visitcos.com/ to learn how to plan a future visit.

I therefore recommend all of you SG fans to visit the following places instead: (overseas fans may be advised to file their US tourist visas in advance at the local US embassy)

    * United States Air Force Academy (visit http://www.academyadmissions.com/visit-the-academy/)
    * Peterson Air and Space Museum on Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs (requires a base pass placed in advance of your visit, see https://petemuseum.org/visitor-information/ for visitor access info)
    * Schriever AFB (see http://www.schriever.af.mil/index.asp for more info, visitor pass required)
    * Fort Carson, home of the US Army 4th Infantry Division (visit www.carson.army.mil/DES/sac/visitor-access.html for visitor information, recommended for the US fans)
    * National Museum of World War II Aviation (see http://www.worldwariiaviation.org/in...eum-directions, individual or group registration required)
    * US Olympic Training Center (see http://www.teamusa.org/about-the-uso...-springs/visit for visitor info)
    * Colorado Springs and Interurban Railway Museums (check out http://mcrsteam6.wix.com/csir)
    * For more info on the space themes of the franchise visit the Space Foundation Discovery Center (http://www.spacefoundation.org/Museum)

For those who will also spend their vacation outside Colorado Springs I recommend:

    * Rio Grande Scenic Railroad (http://www.coloradotrain.com/rides/)
    * Royal Gorge Railroad (https://royalgorgeroute.com/)
    * Royal Gorge Zipline Tours (http://www.royalgorgeziplinetours.com/)

And for those who want to mark these days of importance in Stargate history within the mountain, I therefore recommend the following:

    * Cheyenne Mountain State Park (http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/Pa...eyennemountain)
    * Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (http://www.cmzoo.org/)
    * And a stay for a few days at the Broadmoor Hotel (see https://www.broadmoor.com/ for more info, as well as to plan for a reservation in advance)

Plus a visit to the Broadmoor World Arena may be needed, especially if you want to try out in speed-skating and hockey. Reservations are needed.

    One more thing:

I recommend spending some time in these days at the America The Beautiful Park (for info and visitor reviews see http://www.visitcos.com/venue/parks/...Beautiful-Park, https://www.tripadvisor.com.ph/Attra..._Colorado.html and http://www.colorado-springs-vacation...iful-park.html). Named after the song by Katharine Lee Bates and Samuel Ward and opened in 2007 the park features the two Egyptian style obelisks and the Julia Penrose Fountain, which is aimed at Cheyenne Mountain (the mountain can be viewed from there). Wikipedia states that these resemble elements from SG-1 and the 1994 movie, the fountain itself resembles the Stargate itself used in both the movie and the 3 SG TV series. If you're there on these days, make sure to spend some quite times of reflection on these 13 years of the Stargate franchise on television.

And also for those outside the US make sure to prepare to obtain Canadian tourist visas in order to visit Vancouver, Canada, where most of the 3 SG series were filmed. Visit http://www.tourismvancouver.com/ for more information and to help plan your stay. Info on series filmed locations and places to visit in the Vancouver area will be posted in the coming days, since a visit there may be the nearest to being there in Colorado Springs itself.

Travel must have been affected by a solar flare!

Sadly finances won't allow for travel to Colorado Springs, it would have been fun to get together with fellow fans there.

Many fans will be in Vancouver for Gatecon at the beginning of September so will get our fix of Stargate locations then and reminisce with RDA and many other guests.

Can't believe it's 5 years already since we last saw Stargate on TV. It was a sad day, a day I for one wished SGU continued, it had such promise of great things to come after that ending.

I do have the opportunity to reminisce amongst the scenery and Stargate filming locations whenever I want at least.

I like to think that his smile at the end was him thinking....'aaah, yes, that's how to do it, that will work!'

Yes, much to be irked about, especially when I think about the potential for some great adventures SGU showed by the last few episodes.

Speaking of Vancouver... this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...Vancouver_area) can help. Many of you would be familiar.

As much as I can't wait to see some resolution to that puzzle, I do think SGU's finale was the best series Stargate did - even if it wasn't intended as such.

I agree. It was one of the best finales not just of Stargate, but darn near any tv show ending. BUT the way it ended still leaves a LOT to be desired..
                        A) did eli fix it or not?
                        B) did the gang make it to the next galaxy or not?
                        C) did the SGC ever get a lifeline to the Destiny up and running?
                        D) just what are those drone thinggies? Is it like some think, they were made by the decedents and just forgotten about, or did some other alien race build them? If so, where are they??
