Rush wanted to discover Destiny's secrets, he didn't want to go back, it was always a one way trip for him. Letting the others know about the bridge would increase the chance of finding a way to fix Destiny to dial Earth, thus allowing Young to fulfill his promise to get everyone home. Never mind that Rush thought they were all idiots who could never understand the importance of what Destiny was sent out to find. They just all had the misfortune to be caught up in the fallout as Rush followed his obsession so were never part of Rush's plans anyway.
That smug self satisfied smile he had in Air as he stood looking down on the confused and scared mass of humanity in the gate room showed he was happy he succeeded in his wish, to hell with everyone else!

There were plenty of chances to dial earth. They had one right with the seed ship. They're at the other end of the known universe, and nobody knows anything about that. SG1 alone has racked up a MASSIVE count of absolutely unbelievable powers. They could've run into the local version of the Ascended who decided to help them go home, for all we know. There's no chance to go home if they all hung themselves. Any other case, however remote and however unrealistic, there's always a chance to go home.
