Technically (as that episode proved) it can recharge in any sun. However, it's only really designed, safe, and meant to recharge in Red Dwarfs. Recharging in the blue giant damn near destroyed the ship.

I think it's actually said in the very same episode.

Solar energy as we know it versus the actual power of a star at ground zero are likely very far removed.
Well, yes. The gravity of a star is too powerful anyway to do what the Destiny does. You'd be wasting a lot more energy on escaping than whatever you gain. It would be better to use some kind of dyson swarm. Not a sphere, that can't exist. But a swarm could.

On the other hand, the lack of ability to maintain sufficient power reserves is disturbing and incongruous with the prior series as noted.
There are some inconsistencies, but generally it's a very old ship and it's a miracle it even works.

Hence the less and less time between recharges.

Well...yea. The thing is that it's supposed to be 40% capacity, and we know a ZPM was too valuable to waste on dialling Destiny. Yet we also know a naquahdriah planet would be not that far off from a ZPM's power. Yet Destiny powered by a Seed Ship could dial Earth.

Now, this is obviously a very rough ballpark estimation, but it's clear that Destiny should be having levels of energy not too far off from a ZPM. Even if it's orders of magnitude off; A few orders of magnitude less than some 10^33 - 10^35 joules is still ******* much energy and far above naquahdah generators and the like.

So this brings me to a big inconsistency: Destiny simply doesn't seem to have that kind of power, so either it's far below 40% total capacity, not all the facts are known, or it's inconsistent.

There is a final point of whether the Seed Ship may have much more power storage that Destiny (because it would consume much more in stargate fabrication) so it distorts our image. But it's not certain.

Thus, in conclusion: stuff is fuzzy.
