Default You don't need FTL to get to Earth (Defiance -related discussion)

Why does everyone jump on the FTL bandwagon?

You don't need FTL to get to Earth. You do need advanced ships that have the capacity to have life support systems for hibernation sleep and storage of your crew, food, weapons, and stuff. But you don't need FTL.

Why do we always jump to this conclusion about this in movies and TV shows?

I get the impression in Defiance the Votans don't have FTL drives on their Arks.. But I do think they told a whole bunch of lies when they made their 5000 year trip to Earth...... They knew what Earth was like and would have known it had some kind of life. One of their ships was on Earth 3000 years before events in the TV show are supposed to take place.

FTL is one of the best games around. I would never go into deep space without it on my hard drive. Plus it just got a massive update.
