Ha ha ha...Nick Briggs has been griping for like a year and a half on the podcast about Peter Davison spilling the beans on this before Big Finish was ready to announce it, and then they get scooped by the Radio Times? Oh I can only imagine the apoplexy in the BF offices today!

Wow. I had no idea this idea of Jenny having her own Big Finish series was in the pipeline for so long. Yes, I can imagine the BF office's must be a wee bit miffed at having this news let out this way.

James Marsters returns as Captain John to Torchwood!
By Cameron K McEwan on Wednesday 30 August 2017

        http://www.doctorwho.tv/whats-new/ar...n-to-torchwood

Audio producers Big Finish have announced that actor James Marsters will be reprising his role as Captain John for a brand new Torchwood adventure alongside Captain Jack Harkness, as played by John Barrowman.

Marsters, also known for his role as Spike in TV shows Buffy and Angel, was last seen in the Torchwood Series 2 finale in 2008 and has returned to wreak havoc in the new release coming next year, The Death of Captain Jack. Producer James Goss comments:
The Death of Captain Jack is just naughty! It was a joy to get James Marsters back in, and, once again, Captain John romps through Torchwood like a demented clown.

If you've ever wondered what Torchwood would be like with Captain John at the helm, wonder no more. Nothing from the world of Torchwood emerges unspoiled – and that includes Queen Victoria, and Ianto's dress sense!”

Pre-order here and check out the details below:

        The Death of Captain Jack

Captain Jack is finally dying, and it's time for his oldest friend to visit his deathbed. King John has come to tell him a story. The story of the life he should have had.

It's the story of Alexander the Great, sinking ships, falling empires, robot dinosaurs, and alien invasions. It's a story of love, royal weddings, murder, mass murder, genocide, and very tight trousers.

It's the story of the life of Captain John and it's the story of Torchwood. Be careful what you wish for.

James Marsters is joined by John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones), Kai Owen (Rhys Williams), Tom Price (Andy Davidson) and many more.

The Death of Captain Jack will be released in March 2018 – it is available for pre-order now on CD and download. Check out the Big Finish website here for Torchwood bundle deals.

I listened to the first two episodes before starting work this morning. Deliciously, insidiously evil. And the theme song they’ve composed for the (War) Master is almost worth the price of admission by itself. I can’t wait to get another couple of hours free to finish this one off!

Big Finish have announced details of a new four-part audio series for the Eighth Doctor starting in Aprl 2018. Ravenous features Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, with some familiar faces from the past, over the course of an impressive four box sets.

The Doctor will cross multiple timelines, and meet old acquaintances and familiar foes in these adventures, including ally Sir Winston Churchill (with Ian McNiece reprising his role from the Eleventh Doctor era) and the return of a classic villain from 1988's The Happiness Patrol, the Kandyman (played by Nicholas Rowe, recently seen in The Crown with former Doctor Matt Smith).

Check out the trailer and details of Ravenous below.

                Ravenous

“We are the forgotten women, Helen. Ignored. Put down. Never allowed to prove our worth. And yet together… together… we can be the most important people in history.”

Now, the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), joined by Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker), must hunt through time and space to find their former companion.

This was an instant buy, as soon as I saw the news story this morning. I absolutely love that BF has elevated McGann's Doctor to be such an important, evolving character, with such distinct storytelling eras of his own. He could've been consigned to the oblivion of a single, mediocre 90-minute TV movie, but instead he has a life all his own, with stories numerous and quality enough to make him more than on par with any other incarnation of the character.

That, and that this current ensemble of McGann/Walker/Morahan/Bonnar is just terrific in its own right.

Michelle Ryan's Lady Christina de Souza is the latest Doctor Who character to land their own spin-off from Big Finish.

Ryan will front a new four-part series, The Adventures of Lady Christina, to be released in September.

Thrill-seeking cat burglar Lady Christina was introduced in the 2009 Doctor Who special 'Planet of the Dead' and was last seen soaring towards new adventures on a flying double decker bus.

                            © BBC

Now listeners can find out what happened next in a new set of audio plays, which will pit her against the Slitheen and pair her with none other than Donna Noble's mother Sylvia (Jacqueline King).

Warren Brown (Luther, Strike Back) will also appear in the series, reprising his role of Sam Bishop from Big Finish's UNIT series.

"Being asked to revisit the role of Lady Christina was a very easy decision," said EastEnders and Merlin actress Ryan.

"Adventure, a sunny climate and mind-boggling scenarios are included in the scripts, everything I remember of my Doctor Who experience.

"Alas no David Tennant, but there's a host of new characters to help along the way. I love that we get to see a little more of her heart in the stories, that she does care about the greater good whilst also satisfying her curiosity for life."

                            © BBC

The Adventures of Lady Christina's senior producer David Richardson added: "Lady Christina de Souza was a standout guest character in Doctor Who. When she disappeared off in her flying bus, I wanted to know what happened next – and as it turns out, so did [the character's creator] Russell T Davies!

"Russell very generously embraced the idea of us giving Lady Christina her own audio spin-off, and Michelle Ryan was delighted about the prospect of returning."

The Adventures of Lady Christina is available for pre-order now at £23 on CD or £20 on download from bigfinish.com and will remain at this price until general release, when it will be available for £35 on CD or £30 on download.

River Song versus the Masters for Big Finish
Thursday, 03 May, 2018 - Reported by Marcus

                              http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2018/05...ig-finish.html

River Song will be facing the Masters for Big Finish in the fifth series of The Diary of River Song, released January 2019.

The series will see Michelle Gomez return as Missy and Eric Roberts reprise his portrayal of the Master after a 22 year hiatus. They will join Geoffrey Beevers, who first played the Master in Doctor Who TV episode The Keeper of Traken in 1981 and Derek Jacobi, who played the Master in 2008 episode Utopia and continues at Big Finish

Over the course of four audio series made in arrangement with BBC Studios, River Song, played by Alex Kingston has shone alongside several incarnations of the Doctor, including Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Peter Davison and upcoming in August, Tom Baker.

Now, in January 2019, River Song will face off against four regenerations of The Master, the mortal enemy of the Doctor, in the fifth series of adventures.

                              • The Bekdel Test by Jonathan Morris
                              • Animal Instinct by Roy Gill
                              • The Lifeboat and the Deathboat by Eddie Robson
                              • Concealed Weapon by Scott Handcock

                              David Richardson
                              , producer, tells all.
It’s a medley of Masters! In previous box sets River has been travelling back through the Doctor’s incarnations. This time around she is meeting some of the Masters – and we have some amazing firsts in this box set! Yes, it’s the first time Eric Roberts has returned to the role since the TV movie in 1996, and the first appearance of Michelle Gomez as Missy in a Big Finish production. With Derek Jacobi as the War Master and Geoffrey Beevers as the decayed Master, it’s an unmissable line-up!

                              Nicholas Briggs, executive producer
This is something we’ve been so incredibly excited about for so long. It’s been thrilling enough for us to work with Alex for all the River releases, but to put her against the Doctor’s former best friend turned archenemy is not a little mind-blowing. Fantastic that we’re getting an opportunity to work with Michelle again, after her first appearance (at Big Finish) with Sylvester McCoy back in 2007! But somehow strangely incredible that Eric Roberts is back from the 1996 TV movie. It’s frankly ‘clash of the icons’ in a really mind-blowing box set.

Jason Haigh-Ellery, executive producer, talks more about bringing these actors to audio
Working with Eric was a complete joy. Firstly, he is such a nice man and so easy to communicate with. Secondly, he likes to work and he likes to work fast. Scenes whizz by and we are all enjoying yourselves so much that you forget you are directing an Oscar nominee with over 450 movies under his belt (which should be intimidating – but isn’t). He’s very down to earth – no ego or vanity involved. I hope we work together again soon!
Having Michelle Gomez return to Big Finish is wonderful – a lovely lady, who was magnificent as Missy in the past couple of seasons of Doctor Who. I can’t wait for everyone to hear her and Alex Kingston together!

The Diary of River Song: Series 5 is available for pre-order now at £23 on CD or £20 on download.

The Diary of River Song: Series 5 can also be purchased as a bundle with The Diary of River Song: Series 4, to be released in August 2018, at the price of £45 on CD and £40 on download (all CD purchases from the Big Finish website unlock a download exclusive from the Big Finish website and app).

I wonder how long it’ll be till they have Eric Roberts’s Master cross paths with McGann’s Doctor? That’ll be an interesting reunion!
