So, a question, if anybody knows enough to weigh in...

How do the Seventh Doctor/Bernice stories fit into all this? I know a bunch of them are labeled/identified as "side steps" into the VNA novel timeline, which to my mind doesn't jive well with the flow of the BF stories.

I mean, for instance, the audio introduction to Bernice (Love and War) features both Ace and Bernice, and subsequent stories seem to feature only Bernice, suggesting that Ace leaves. Only, we sort of know from the BF stories that Ace doesn't leave until (apparently) Afterlife. So the Bernice stuff doesn't seem to fit in earlier, and with Ace being in L&W, it doesn't appear to fit in later either. So how does that work?

Ace travels with the Doctor and the two meet Bernice. The majority of the Ace/Bernice/Doctor travels exist solely in the Virgin New Adventures books. Ace later leaves the Doctor and joins the Space Corps to beat up daleks with something more sophisticated than a baseball bat. Ace returns to the Doctor's side. The Bernice Summerfield range takes place *after* her travels with The Doctor.

Hmm.... I'm trying to figure out how to factor them in to how I've been going through it. But since I've not gone after prose (and don't really intend to, tbh), it's a bit of a wrench in the works for me. Maybe I'll just skip her entirely

Heh, I just really hate discontinuities and can't figure out how to work her in It doesn't really ever seem like Ace leaves and returns in the BF main line, does it? Show gradually grows up, but I can't say I noticed any dramatic shift from one story to the next.

Anyone checked out The Stageplays yet?

The Ultimate Adventure was surprisingly fun! Lots of good natured singing, even if much of the plot was a bit pantomime and didn't really hold together well. A nice, innocent, and simple hark back to days gone by.

Seven Keys to Doomsday, however, I hard to force myself to finish. The plot revolved around a very contrived idea and completely failed to engage with one simple issue that could have rendered the entire adventure unnecessary. This is exacerbated by the fact that The Doctor is portrayed by Trevor Martin. Granted, he may have originally played The Doctor in the live version of this show, but the story really suffers for this. He's meant to be an 'alternative fourth' incarnation, but - maybe it's because we haven't seen his idiosyncrasies visually, or maybe it's because he's simply not THE Doctor but there's nothing about his performance that grabbed me. Prove enough that not just any actor can play The Doctor...

Curse of the Daleks - admittedly I'm half way through this... but my God it's good. It has the addition of an occasional narrator to highlight some of the more subtle plot moments that would be noticable on stage but not on audio - oddly, this actually works in it's favour, and I seem to be able to engage with this audio drama more than the other Stageplays. It's certainly more 'visual' in my mind... Interestingly, this ISN'T a Doctor Who stage play, but is distinctly a Dalek play. It might as well be part of the Dalek Empire Saga. I'd *definitely* recommend.

Otherwise, recently, I've listened to a few monthly ranges, and Brotherhood of the Daleks really IS good.

Enemy of the Daleks delivers yet ANOTHER strong audio dalek story. Stronger, WAY stronger, than many televised episodes. Good lord they need to get these writers onto the televised stuff!

I actually found Charley's exploits with Six to be a lot more palatable than her post Zagreus adventures with Eight... she was less... annoying. I've just preordered the Pollard boxset, so let's hope it lives up to the press!

Going back out to the desert shortly, so just stocked up on a shed load of audio dramas. Really looking forward to sinking into them.

At some point, probably when I get back, I *really* need to make headway into the Bernice Summerfield range. I love the stuff I've heard of her so far when she's with the Doctor (especially Eight's 'The Company of Friends'!). There's a new Bernice & Seventh Doctor boxset out soon... but being the stickler for chronology that I am... I really cannot go anywhere near it until I've ploughed through the existing Bernice stuff...

Having had a few dealings with him over orders, reading his contributions to Vortex magazine and listening to him on the BF podcasts, he seemed such a lovely man, totally dedicated to Big Finish. What a total shock. RIP Paul.
