FanFic - Fireside (10, Ian, Barbara)

Think I've posted it before, but just dodgily photoshopped this, so thought I'd post it again...

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7971284/1/Fireside

Devastated by the loss of Donna, the Doctor, soaked from the pouring rain, seeks solace with an old friend, whom he hasn't seen in a very, very long time.

Sorry - apparently Fanfic has been running very slowly for a few weeks due to cyber attacks...

In case FanFic is still having issues, you can also view the story here...

That was a lovely little fic. Very poignant. I'm glad Ian managed to see Barbara again one last time. I also liked that you Knighted Ian! He deserved it!

Psst - a tinsy tinsy thing. The Sun newspaper was first published in Sept 1964, so Barbara wouldn't have known about it. You could substitute it with The News of the World. That was around in 1963.

          Thank-you

It's my most proud WHO fan fic to date... Loved writing it... still tweak it a little... still love reading it myself...

Originally, I was going to have the Doctor take Ian back to Barbara's funeral... basically so the Doctor could take the blame for Barbara's death... But ultimately that's not what my fingers typed... :} And I like the new ending better anyway.

Ian was knighted in The Crusade! When "The Lion" was discovered in 99 and the BBC then released the then 2 surviving episodes of the story, they had William Russell reprise his role of Ian, giving "in character" linking material for the 2 missing episodes... In one of them (probably the first), he points out that he could rightfully call himself Sir Ian Chesterton, having been knighted by Richard the Lionheart himself...

You know, I did know that, but had forgotten it completely. My appalling memory does have benefits though. I can watch things like Poirot or Inspector Morse or The Robots of Death over and over, and still never remember who did it.

That was really nice. I don't know why William Russell hasn't come back(minus the Crusade video links)

Indeed, it is a crying shame he's not come back, other than the blink-and-you've-missed-it cameo in An Adventure In Space And Time... I just read a rumour he was invited to be in Day of the Doctor, but couldn't make it... Tho, I'm not sure where he'd gave fit in... Other than as a normal curator, instead of a very bizarre possible future Doctor with an old (old!) face..?

The issue I presume really comes down to (I think) why Nic Courtney didn't get an invite... Too old to maintain a fast paced action packed modern story...

I'm sure he would've loved to show up, but he was a bit busy being dead.

However, he was willing to show up for a final story during Tennant's tenure, provided that they kill the character off. Unfortunately, no one dared so the character just died off-screen. Kind of ironic too since he first met the Doctor off-screen.

As for Russell, a cameo in a docudrama doesn't really work for me. His character deserves a lot more.
