      I think she's dead

It's too bad Naomi took so long to change her mind on how she was doing things. Her purpose was noble but the way she went about it; she wasn't any better than the demons.

Interesting question that! And my story predates the finale.

I don't think she's dead, she was only stabbed by a surgical device and not an angel blade. She was probably incapacitated because it's inside her vessel's brain; and they're 'connected'.

I hope she isn't, so Amanda Tapping can become more involved in the Supernatural universe.

I didn't see any burnt wing outlines. I'm going with incapacitated.

I loved this finale, Supernatural at it's best ! Crowley was awesome, Castiel as always, Dean and Sam.... are the best ! Kevin was there, Naomi, Megatron and all the others who rock this show ! I know some have been not that keen on season seven and eight ( me included ) but this episode was clearly to the right direction ! What will happen with the angels ? Will they find a way back to happen or they do have to die ?

What about the demons ? Will they still attempt to close the gates of hell ? Oh man.... To much stuff happened !!!

OMFG just when you think they cant up the epic scale !!!!!!

I think the Angels falling scene may just become the greatest SPN scene ever !!

Also, what was the MoL hideouts freakout about??

I get the feeling the MoL were the guardians of more than just knowledge.

Just wow, there hasnt been an episode like this for such a long time, i still shaking lol

It was categorically stated by Dean throughout seasons 4 and 5 that angels were like demons but 'bigger dicks' and we've seen angels willing to kill humans as easily as swatting flies, long before Naomi came along. At least it was good continuity!

I think the secret Men of Letters base is tapped into a system which can monitor things like global paranormal energy fluctuations—or perhaps just celestial energy. It would have been interesting to see how that machine reacted to the gates of Hell being open in season 2/3, inside Samuel Colt's railroad.

On the subject of the episode itself, totally semi-called-it:

I hope to god that when the gates of Heaven are closed, Cas, Metatron, and any other angels on Earth are cut off from Heaven's power and made effectively mortal because it's just way too illogical and powergamey right now.
Turns out that Castiel's 180 was mere a plot device and not an example of bad writing/poor continuity. Which sorta makes sense because pretty much every decision Castiel has made since helping Dean escape the Green-Room has been a bad one (Molotov Michael, deal with Crowley, civil war in Heaven, killing Raphael, the whooooole Leviathans thing, not trusting Dean with the Angel tablet once his slate had been wiped clean, the list is potentially endless).

Though I am glad that Castiel is essentially mortal (ie, sans-grace) now. I'm sure next season will be interesting, with the angels all fallen and whatnot. I have to wonder how that will work, as normal angels, when cut off from Heaven, lose most of their abilities, whilst seraphs and arch-angels keep theirs. I have no idea how many (if any) seraphs are left what with Zach dead, Cas mortal and (possibly) Naomi (maybe) dead.

On the subject of the episode in general, I really liked a lot of the stuff, particularly everything involving Sam/Crowley/Abbadon. I had a feeling Abbadon would be the one summoned by Crowley's communiqué—it was a loose end that needed addressing. I'm certain Abbadon will be back in a new host body in season 9 to cause trouble for the Winchesters and Crowley (if Sam & Dean even let Crowley go). It'll also be interesting to see what state Crowley's in, after everything Sam did to him.

What thing I did have to suspend belief over: Metatron getting the best of Castiel. Sure, I can understand normal-Cas having the crap kicked out of him by normal-Uriel in season 4, because let's face it, the dude was huge, and a warrior like Cas. Then, in season 5, Cas is able to kick the crap out of various different heavenly minions, often taking on multiple opponents. In season 6, 7 and 8 he's a seraph, directly below arch-angels in power, with experience of fighting wars and, in season 8, also the experience of fighting in Purgatory. But he gets captured by Metatron, of all angels. Very lame.
Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

Next season should be very interesting.

You'd think that the angels would retain their powers since Lucifer apparently did after being cast out, Metatron did after all say that the spell would cast the angels out like Lucifer was cast out.

I was disappointed that Sam didn't finish the trials and close the gates of hell, it's just a let down after the whole season building up to it.

As for Metatron beating Cas... We only have Metatrons word that he was from the secretarial pool, for all we know he might have been the biggest badass in heaven after the arch angels.

                            the episode was great!

so crowley was left in an almost-human state, right? and did crowley start to lose his accent when he was losing his demon side? (is the actor using his real accent?)

                            metatron fooled me.

was it stated the naomi is an arc angel?

i love amanda, so i VERY MUCH wanted naomi to stick around!! (she better be alive!!)

while i think the falling angels scene was gorgeous to view, i'm not sure i like the idea of them falling from heaven. in fact, i know i don't. BUT, god could decide to return and bring his children back home. (that would be cool!!)

so did the ppl of earth see the angels falling? do you think they just thought it was falling stars instead?

i wonder if sam's going to be alright? he officially didn't finish the trials...
