Stargate Rewatch: SGU Season Two Nominations

Nominations, Please ... One Last Time!

It's time to nominate your favorite episodes, character moments, and more from the second and final year of Stargate Universe!

Please read these notes before you nominate.

For the Best Stargate Crossover category, please nominate the actor and the specific episode. Any SG-1 or Atlantis cast member or recurring guest star is eligible in this category. Note that those shows' main cast members are not eligible in the Best Guest Star category.

SGU is a different kind of show, so that means some different categories for the Rewatch awards, including:

Best Supporting Character: This should be one of the show's recurring characters -- not on the main cast, but not a one-off guest star. Think Riley, James, Volker, Brody, etc. (Note that these actors are still eligible in the "Best Guest Star" category.)

Coolest Technology: Ancient, human, or alien.

Best Adversary: What you see on SGU aren't necessarily "villains," so let's go with "adversarial."

Check out the SGU Season One winners.

We'll take nominations in this thread for the first half of the month, and then unveil the award ballot for voting on the GateWorld home page the second half of the month. At the end of December, we'll announce the winners to wrap up the final leg of the Stargate fan community Rewatch project.

    The Categories:
(Remember, keep your noms limited to SGU Season Two only!)
    • Best Episode (Season Two)
    • Best Nicholas Rush Moment
    • Best Everett Young Moment
    • Best Matthew Scott Moment
    • Best T.J. Johansen Moment
    • Best Ronald Greer Moment
    • Best Eli Wallace Moment
    • Best Chloe Armstrong Moment
    • Best Camille Wray Moment
    • Best David Telford Moment
    • Best Supporting Character
    • Coolest Technology
    • Best Adversary
    • Best Stargate Crossover (based on one specific Season Two episode)
    • Best Guest Star (based on one specific Season Two episode)

Remember that the best alien race, adversary, and technology you nominate don't have to be new to the franchise in Season Two, but they do have to make an appearance in SGU Season Two!

    Here's How to Nominate:

There's a poll above for the first category, Best Episode. You may vote for up to THREE episodes. (If you vote for any more, we'll have to disqualify all your votes.) You must use the poll for your "Best Episode" nominations to be counted (don't just post them below). Remember, this is just the nomination stage. The top vote-getters will square off in the official poll.

For all other categories, just post below. Two rules:

Please specify the episode! ("That one where McKay says 'Oh, come on!'" won't be counted.)

One nomination per category per person, please! So think about it, watch some episodes, and come back and post. (If we detect fake "sock" accounts stuffing the nominations box, ALL your noms will be disqualified.)

The final ballot will include those with the most nominations, so don't skip over something because someone else already posted it. Nominate what you think is the best of the best!

Nominations will close on or around Sunday, December 16. Thanks!

Best Episode (Season Two) - That's a hard one. My final choice is Intervention.

Best Nicholas Rush Moment - He has nothing to lose so he (his alternate version) decides to sit in the ancient neuro interface and die with the ship in the hopes of learning more before he dies. (Twin Destinies)

Best Everett Young Moment - Young has weird dreams and altough his relationship with Camile is not very fuitful, he decides to wake her up in the middle of the night, drunk and all (Trial and error)

Best Matthew Scott Moment - When Rush gets back from Simeonhunting, Scott helps him out and asks if Simeon is dead, but then he rebukes Rush for being so blindfold. (Malice)

Best T.J. Johansen Moment - She knows deep down that her baby is dead, but tries to not show her sadness to Young. She also asks Caine about her dream. (Visitaion)

Best Ronald Greer Moment - Killing some lucians. Especially the suffocating move. (Intervention)

Best Eli Wallace Moment - Deciding to stay aboard Destiny altough he was the one who made possible tha way home (Twin Destinies)

Best Chloe Armstrong Moment - Being in carantene for days and trying to face her new self, bearing the others look on her. Helping Rush and Young as much as she can. (Trial and error)

Best Camille Wray Moment - Making peace, almost friendship with Greer in the close of death (Alliances)

Best David Telford Moment - His death. I Couldn't stand the guy in any version. (Twin Destinies)

Best Supporting Character - Robert Caine (Visitation)

Coolest Technology - Stasis pods (Gauntlet)

Best Adversary - Maybe not a real adversary, but very neat cgi, the Ursini (Awakening)

Best Stargate Crossover (based on one specific Season Two episode) - David Hewlett as McKay in episode Seizure

Best Guest Star (based on one specific Season Two episode) - Kathleen Munroe as Amanda Perry (The greater good)

Best Episode Epilogue --> such a difficult choice. It's a brilliant two part episode, but the 2nd part gets the nod. It also provided what some SGU fans considered to be a perfect ending for the prematurely cancelled series. I agree to some extent, but Blockade and Gauntlet were also very strong episodes. In fact, Gauntlet would have to rank as my favorite series finale from the franchise. Shame it was so damn bittersweet.

Best Rush Moment Seizure: Trapped in a fantasy with Dr. Perry, Rush pleads with her that he truly lovers her, but is unable to awaken --> another very difficult choice. Robert Carlyle is a fantastic actor and he showed us why time and time again over the course of season 2. My initial thought was to give to the nod to Malice, but eventually settled here.

Best Young Moment Aftermath: Suffocating Riley --> It was tough, it was powerful, and it certainly took a heavy emotion tole on him that would reach it's low in Trial And Error. Though that episode focused almost exclusively on this, it didn't exactly feature our Colonel at his best, and it was Rush would ultimately break the loop.

Best Scott Moment Speaking of Trial And Error though, Scott never doubted his commander's ability to lead and appealed to him that they needed him.

Best TJ Moment The Hunt: Keeping Reynolds calm and finding a way to single to their captures that they're intelligent beings.

Best Greer Moment Hope: Volunteering to donate his kidney to Volker. The particular moment from this episode i'd like to highlight however is him and Volker in the greenhouse with one another gazing out at the stars.

Best Eli Moment Gauntlet: Standing on the observation deck, watching Destiny cut through space with a smile on his face. This whole episode is really one big ode to Eli. He devises the plan to take them out of Drone occupied space, and finally owned up to the fact that he was smarter than Rush. The entire ending sequence was perfect. Too bad it signaled the end of Stargate.

Best Chloe Moment Resurgence: Kicking ass and calling in the Blues for assistance while they're under siege from the Drones.

Best Wray Moment Pathogen: Arranging for Eli's mother to be brought aboard Destiny via the communication stones to see that her son is alive and well and doing what he always wanted.

Best Telford Moment Awakening: Returning to the seed ship, trying to reverse the energy/power exchange before ultimately being stranded when Rush elects to disconnect.

Best Supporting Character Jennifer Space as Lisa Park --> SGU truly was an ensemble show, giving us an abundance of supporting characters to chose from, all of which had moments to shine along the way. I loved Brody, and i loved Volker, but there were particular moments with Lisa Park that I believe elevated her above them. If I could nominated the trio of them though I definitely would.

        Coolest Technology The Drones

        Best Adversary The Drones

Best Stargate Crossover Seizure, Robert Picardo as Richard Woolsey.

Best Guest Star French Stewart as Andrew Covel --> True, he didn't have a whole lot to do, other and bump heads with Rush of course, but it was refreshing to see him back in the Stargate fold.

Most Overrated Episode Twin Destinies --> Okay, I realize it's not a category, but i've often felt it should be. I just have never been able to understand peoples fascination with this episode. For me, it's not even in the top 10 of season 2. I even viewed it as a let down from the previous 2 parter of Resurgence and Deliverance. Certainly the final 4 episodes are all superior. Anyways, I realize it's popular, and I'll admit it has some fine moments, but while good, I never thought it was great.

                    Best Episode: "Epilogue"
Best Nicholas Rush Moment: Onboard the Destiny, Rush gives a convincing speech about the importance of the mission; managing to put aside his selfishness and talk about the greater good, standing alongside Rush in the progress and establishing himself against the brash Telford. ("Twin Destinies")
Best Everett Young Moment: Suffering from nightmares relating to the destruction of Destiny: Young tries to keep it together despite the constant questioning of his companions but he eventually breaks down, yelling, screaming and drinking. Eventually he finds the pep he needs to take command again. ("Trial & Error")
                    Best Matthew Scott Moment: Pass.
Best T.J. Johansen Moment: TJ discovers she's afflicted with ALS, a disease that weakens the nerves and eventually paralyzes the victim as she watches herself on the Kino recordings succumbing to it; both the eventuality and the loss of a possible cure leave her in a state of worry, thus showing a vulnerable side to her. ("Epilogue")
Best Ronald Greer Moment: Despite his considerable handicap, Greer manages to continue on to help out in the situation of Homeworld Command; despite the instances of Wray who he makes a stand against by telling her what he's been through and the type of military pain he's endured. ("Alliances")
Best Eli Wallace Moment: Tired of lying about being a different person and wanting to provide comfort to her mother, Eli tries to convince her that it's him inside of that body; going so far as to mention events that he would know but to no avail as her mother questions where he got the information and believes that Eli is in a secret military base somewhere. ("Pathogen")
Best Chloe Armstrong Moment: Chloe finally faces the eventual moment where she has to give herself over to the aliens. She faces no fear despite what she knows, manages to give off both confident and uncertain reasoning revolving around her actions and reassures Scott in the most heartfelt way possible. ("Deliverance")
Best Camille Wray Moment: Outside of the "Eli Wallace Elementary School", Wray gives a speech talking about his contributions to education and the true mission ahead. ("Epilogue")
Best David Telford Moment: Telford manages to switch bodies with himself, getting off of Destiny and returning to Earth while his alternate self is killed. ("Twin Destinies")
Best Supporting Character: Dr. Lisa Park
Coolest Technology: Anything made by the "Novans".
                    Best Adversary: The Drones.
Best Stargate Crossover: Pass. There's only two SG crossovers in Season 2 and that's in "Seizure" with Dr. Rodney McKay and Richard Woosley. It would prove fairer if anybody else appeared but it seems that both are default nominations and it wouldn't matter if I said McKay or Woosley because it wouldn't make a difference; to me both are equal with each other.
Best Guest Star: Haig Sutherland as Sgt. Hunter Riley ("Aftermath")
                    Back from the grave.

I can't believe this is the end of the rewatch. Wow.

And having re-watched season 2 once again I'm at a loss why such excellent show was cancelled.

                        Anyway:

Best Episode: This is extremely hard, as the whole season was excellent. After much debate I went with 3 episodes, so it's a toss between 'Aftermath', 'Cloverdale' and 'Epilogue'. I'll go with "Cloverdale" to be controversial

Best Nicholas Rush Moment: Rush catching Young and thus saving his life when he could allow the colonel to float away ("The Greater Good")

Best Everett Young Moment: Realising he will be a liability to the search party Young steps down and allows Varro to take over - both the party and their rivalry for TJ ("The Hunt")

Best Matthew Scott Moment: Matt's empathy during his conversation with Rush about trust, vengeance and peacemaking after losing Mandy ("Malice")

Best T.J. Johansen Moment: I was going to go with her heartbreaking conversation with Riley when they both knew he was dying, but since I can see that almost all the nominations for her best moment are kinda gloom I'll go with the moment of pure awesomeness: when Simeon asks her whether she 'likes to play rough' and attempts to manhandle her she wipes the floor with him, putting him in his place. ('Awakenings')

Best Ronald Greer Moment: as much as I love Greer dancing in a pink!shirt and having lots of fun, I'll nominate him for playing matchmaker for Eli and Ginn and giving Eli advice on his love life ("Trial and Error").

Best Eli Wallace Moment: Eli giving up Ginn to save Rush ("Seizure")

Best Chloe Armstrong Moment: Chloe allows herself to be bitten so that she can stay behind with Matt and possibly save him ('Cloverdale')

Best Camille Wray Moment: Wray's speech about true mission ahead. ("Epilogue")

Best David Telford Moment: Telford's last talk with Young when Destiny is about to jump and leave him behind ("Awakenings")

Best Supporting Character: Oh boy. I feel like I should nominate The Great Trinity: Brody, Park & Volker as there's no way I'll choose between them. Riley should also be nominated for his bravery in 'Aftermath' but I'm not sure he's still considered a supporting character in season 2. So I'll go with Lt. Vanessa James who throughout season 2 was calm, level-headed, professional and a true friend who was there for everybody who needed her, especially for Ron after the operation. ("The Hunt")

Coolest Technology: Seed ship and the gates in the making.

                        Best Adversary: The Drones.

Best Stargate Crossover: Dr. Brightman in "Intervention"

Best Guest Star: Haig Sutherland as Sgt. Hunter Riley ("Aftermath") if he's counted as a guest star. If he's still considered a supporting character, then Julie McNiven as Ginn ("Hope").

                        Most overrated episode: Malice

I absolutely hate the Rush/Simeon cop-out after the writers spent so much time setting up THE confrontation between Simeon and Greer. I find this episode to be pretty average for the series and one of the weaker of the season, so fans' adoration for it is something I just can't understand. *shrug*

For many reasons, it was difficult for me to parttake in the rewatch. I will take this moment to submit one category for vote and that is:

Best Episode: Gauntlet.....because it was the most heartbreaking.....seeing Destiny fly into the unknown.

                              Best Nicholas Rush Moment
                              • Having finally cracked Destiny's master code Rush finds the ship's bridge, only to be overwhelmed by the task when he decides to keep it secret from the crew. ("Aftermath")
                              • With a way home now open to the crew, Dr. Rush gives a speech asking for volunteers to stay behind on the ship and see out Destiny's mission. ("Twin Destinies")

                              • Facing visions of Destiny's destruction and his failure as a leader, Colonel Young suffers a complete breakdown before being convinced to stand up and act like a real commander again. ("Trial and Error")

                              • Refusing to give up his faith in the Colonel, Lt. Scott confronts his leader and brings him back from the edge of a breakdown -- telling him it is time to step up and command again. ("Trial and Error")
                              • While searching a desert world for Simeon, Lt. Scott shows compassion to an angry Dr. Rush, speaking to him about their need for trust and the futility of vengeance. ("Malice")
                              • With the enemy on their door Matt reluctantly delivers the woman he loves to the blue aliens, waiting with uncertainty for them to heal her and return her to him. ("Deliverance")

                              Best T.J. Johansen Moment

                              • Held captive by a terrifying predator, Lt. Johansen keeps Corporal Reynolds calm and realizes that their captor is an intelligent being -- even communicating with it and preventing Sgt. Greer from shooting it. ("The Hunt")
                              • T.J. discovers she is afflicted with a terminal disease, watching kino recordings of herself succumbing to the disease in an alternate timeline. ("Epilogue")

                              Best Ronald Greer Moment
                              • Armed with a homemade flame-thrower and a mission to protect Lt. Scott and Chloe, Greer blasts away at hostile alien organisms pressing in on their position at the Stargate. ("Cloverdale")
                              • When Dale Volker needs a kidney transplant to survive, Greer volunteers for the dangerous surgery without a moment's hesitation. ("Hope")
                              • Despite being injured in the attack on Homeworld Command Greer maintains his composure, keeping Camille alive while also confronting her about her opinions of him. ("Alliances")

                              Best Eli Wallace Moment
                              • Eli rushes home to his mother's bedside when she takes a turn for the worse, and tries to convince her that he is her son -- even though he is in someone else's body. ("Pathogen")
                              • Having found love with Ginn only to lose her, Eli is forced to give her up a second time and isolate her mind in the ship's computer in order to save Rush. ("Seizure")

                              Best Chloe Armstrong Moment
                              • Chloe allows herself to be stung by an aggressive alien organism so that she can stay behind with Matt and find a way to save his life before Destiny jumps. ("Cloverdale")
                              • Chloe accepts her condition, records her goodbyes, and forgives Greer for what he might have to do when the time comes to put her off the ship. ("Visitation")
                              • Realizing she eventually had to return to the aliens, Chloe fearlessly accepts her fate when Young gives her up to them to save everyone on Destiny. ("Deliverance")

                              Best Camille Wray Moment
                              • Camille pulls strings back home to get Eli's mother on board the Destiny via the communication stones, to see that her son is alive and well and doing what he always wanted. ("Pathogen")
                              • Caught in a crisis situation on Earth that may kill them both, Camille attempts to make peace with Sgt. Greer even though they had their differences. ("Alliances")
                              • Outside of the Eli Wallace Elementary School in an alternate timeline, an aged Wray gives a speech talking about his contributions to education and the true mission ahead. ("Epilogue")

                              Best David Telford Moment
                              • Telford returns alone to the seed ship to try and reverse the power transfer, but is stranded with the Ursini when the two ships are disconnected. ("Awakening")
                              • With Destiny under attack Telford and the Ursini fly to the rescue, destroying the drones in a star and offering a plan to attack the mothership that is controlling the automated drones. ("Resurgence")
