What plans do you think the ancients had in store for destiny?

So I have thought about this a lot over the past few days after my season two three day re-watch.
Its is patently obvious that the ancients that launched destiny had every intention of one day boarding her, as shown by the living quarters etc.
So why didn't they? I like to think that maybe the group that launched destiny did so in such secrecy that they never divulged the secret outside a few and somehow the creators died so no one knew about destiny.
Because you would think if it was common knowledge to the ancients that they would have tried to board or at the very least catch up with the destiny as they would have better hyperdrives to ftl by then. so why didn't they? Did they realise once ascending, or before that the message sent at the dawn of time was a hoax or did they travel there in advance and secure the info?
What do you think? I would love to hear your opinions. thank you.

I'm pretty sure the show makes it clear that once the Ancients began their research into ascension, they abandoned the Destiny project.

bUT WHY? BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER FELT IT RELEVANT OR THEY KNEW BY ASCENDING THEY WOULD FIND THAT INFO OUT. PLUS WHAT ABOUT THE ALTERANS AND LANTEANS THAT LIVED BEFORE THEY LEARNED ASCENSION, WOULD THEY NOT HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN DESTINY'S PROGRESS?

I don't think they abandoned it - not all ancients ascended remember.

I think they simply weren't ready to board it or it hadn't found what they were looking for.

Destiny was actually a very clever project when you think about it. Sent out into unchartered galaxies where there could be any sort of aliens with any sort of powerful weaponary. You can't just go sending a tooled up ship like destiny into unchartered galaxies like that looking for information so you have to give it a reason to be there that would be acceptable to the local aliens.

Thats where the stargate comes in. By sending out unarmed seed ships, any alien ship would scan it and realise it is not a threat. The local star systems are analysed and stargates are put on planets that can support life. Any aliens there will soon realise that the stargate is a portal for dialling and they are being put there by automated ships. The aliens can use them as a way of getting from one planet to another with minimal fuss.

So, you're trying to discover what the universe is about right? You've got your stargates installed all over the place that can record basic information such as planetary orbits, temperatures, cosmic radiation etc. You can now send a ship out to grab that data autonomously. Aliens will see destiny but most will figure out that its automated and alone and following the path of the stargates. A few might attack but the ship is well tooled up to defend itself and survive. The majority in the early universe wouldn't bother attacking a survey ship.

So, now you have the ground work laid: Stargates that can record valuable information and a ship to go and get that information. When the ship has finally found what its looking for OR gathered enough information to provide a conclusion to its mission it can dial back and call the ancients.

So to recap.. The stargates were actually universal probes / data recorders designed with a friendly usable 'feature' to persuade aliens to accept their presence. As they've accepted this useful bit of kit and not seen it as a threat, an automated survey ship should be easily accepted. Destiny would then follow up to upload the information and scan the local area etc.

How am I supposed to know...Lol.

They probably didn't find it relevant anymore.

I think that only a small group of Ancients developed the project, and after discovering/creating other interesting things, like Ascension, Atlantis etc, they just lost their interest. I do believe that may they planned on boarding it again at some point, but they ascended long before that, so Destiny just kept drifting on.

If they're ascended, they probably already had the information they wanted from the Destiny trip. They just had no use for it after ascension.

You see it would have to be a damn large small group to build a ship that size. Have you tried building an air craft carrier at all? - You need thousands of people for that! Imagine a space ship like destiny. I don't think it was a small project, I think it was one of their large research projects from a time gone by. I agree with you about them returning to it at some point though.

I'm not so sure! You see Ascension (as we understand it) still requires a universe to live in. This background radiation thing Rush was banging on about indicates that the universe itself was either an intelligent being OR that it was created by something somewhere else. With that said, the ancients living in ascended land would be (if we're hierachial about it) below that level as they're still living in the universe itself.

Also lets not forget that destiny was lanched pre-Milky way when the ancients lived in another galaxy and may even pre-date their split with the Ori. For that matter it doesn't even look as though destiny ever visited the MW as the stargates it was planting were the earlier version of MW gates.

I personally think that destiny was carrying a cargo of some sort designed to be used at the end of its mission. I posted this in another thread but here we go:

You can see the front of destiny looks similar to a birds head. It appears to have two 'eyes' that are behind retractable shutters and it would appear that there is a beak (if thats what you call a birds mouth in the states) that looks as though it drops down. My guess is that it was some specialised equipment for some purpose.

Incorrect: the Destiny's flightpath from "Air" was clearly stated to start on Earth.

The fact that there aren't any Destiny-era Stargates in the Milky Way is no more surprising than the fact that there are no more Model Ts driving around: they became outdated and were replaced as they wore out.

They might just be waiting, for the ship to complete it's mission. They've got all the time in the world, what's the point in rushing?
