how much do the populations of resort islands increase in season?

I was reading Sci-fi novel the other day in which one of the characters claimed that an island with a population of 7000 would increase to 60,000 in summer, do you think that's right?

Eh? Which novel? If the summer population was transient, then sure. Otherwise human populations increase by at most a few percent per year.
